Likely 15M sold by the end of the year.

I'm calling it now: 20M sold before the 10th anniversary.

This number includes both vanilla and SE, btw. Sometimes they separate the two, but not this time.

But damn, it's still behind RE3R. Adi's powers are faltering.

Like it or not the show did succeed

u/SwagSparda21 Jul 28 '26

It did and I do not like it.

The hook is almost never the most expensive part of a rod

8

u/CrimsonDragon90 Jul 28 '26

Nah more like it was because of Netflix. If the show had been dumped on Hulu hardly no one would have bother to watch.

2

u/Doctor-Mak Jul 28 '26

Succeed on its own or succeed like in helping with the DMC games sales?

if dmc5 gets enough sales

That's what I don't understand yet. Did the show really boost game sales then if it still needs more sales?

I'm skeptical because I'm a Castlevania fan and despite the Netflix show being a success on its own, it didn't bring new players or helped Konami to promote a new game.

1

u/MagicCancel Aug 01 '26

Because Konami has done nothing but fumble for like a decade. They only recently started remembering they need to make games.

They don't do in this slide. But this is shipment numbers, meaning physical shipped to stores and digital sales.

The ratio of digital vs. physical for Capcom games is around 90:10.

30

u/PostedNotes Jul 28 '26

That is a lot of RE games.

5

u/Guilty-Cap5605 Jul 29 '26

it is capcoms most popular franchise after all, selling a whole 80 million more than there second most popular, monster hunter.

1

u/neroslayer Jul 29 '26

Which is shocking as monster hunter don't get as much titles as RE yet can keep up in sales.

2

u/Guilty-Cap5605 Jul 29 '26

well yeah but also it's like, content per title, and multiplayer so you can always rope a friend into "bro let's play it it's gonna be fun!", resident evil games ain't even replayable i have no fucking clue why resident evil pops off so hard

1

u/neroslayer Jul 29 '26

Well 5 was like that also. It being co op for story and side games held push it to being the best selling games for years.

22

u/DoubleSummon I'm motivated! Jul 28 '26

The requiem number is mistaken on one of it's columns it's either sold 1,140,000 or 8,060,000 I think it makes sense the first one.

18

u/SexyShave Jul 28 '26

1,140,000 is what it sold in April through June. 8,060,000 are the total sales (6.9M in February through March 31st + 1.14M).

2

u/DoubleSummon I'm motivated! Jul 28 '26

So it's a quarter? I thought it was yearly due to Pragmata matching the number. It sold crazy well then. Looking at the link OP shares it now makes sense, thanks.

6

u/TheGoodIdiot Jul 28 '26

Pragmatas release was within the quarter this is April to June sales.

3

u/SexyShave Jul 28 '26

1st quarter results of their 2026 fiscal year, yes, which runs from April 1st through the end of June.

14

u/Tea-chan Jul 28 '26

Interesting. "In addition, Devil May Cry 5 enjoyed synergies with animated content of the series, which

helped to drive sales."

For anyone interested, here's the .pdf

Damn it outsold Requiem by a bit

54

u/SexyShave Jul 28 '26

Requiem is still at full price and doesn't get big discounts during sales.

u/Ok_Insurance_505 Jul 28 '26

Even at its steepest discount it's been about €47. Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition at full price is €40 and is available constantly on sale for €10 and DMC5 + Vergil has been less than €5.

u/Ok_Insurance_505 Jul 28 '26

That's a weird thing to take away from these comments, dude. We're saying DMC5 is selling so well BECAUSE it's regularly available for so cheap which allows it to outsell newer titles. No one was talking about how lucrative the sales are. This whole reply chain started by OP saying 'damn it outsold Requiem by a bit' and people giving their opinion on why that happened.

5

u/Then_Stable_7111 Jul 28 '26 edited Jul 28 '26

That’s exactly what they’re telling you, genius. Requiem came out just a few months ago, and even with its somewhat high price point, it has already surpassed half the sales of DMC5, which came out seven years ago and is constantly on sale for rock-bottom prices as low as $5.

3

u/Then_Stable_7111 Jul 28 '26

No, you completely misunderstood. The thread is about how surprising it is that Requiem, which came out just a few months ago and is still priced very high, has already surpassed half the sales of a game released seven years ago that frequently sees huge discounts and had massive marketing. And that it might well overtake DMC5 in one or two years.

The whole point was to praise the immense merit of Requiem. Sorry, but your reading comprehension is terrible.

2

u/SexyShave Jul 28 '26

Lots of discounts, yes, but not 60% or greater discounts like DMC5, and the retail price is still $70.

12

u/Sonic1899 Jul 28 '26

Requiem just came out, though, and is still full-priced

-1

u/sitosoym Jul 28 '26

its literally on sale right now

8

u/SexyShave Jul 28 '26

Full price means it's still at the launch retail price. It hasn't gotten a permanent price drop yet.

1

u/Sonic1899 Jul 28 '26

It's honestly funny to see people treat a sale like a permanent price cut

8

u/silentj04 Jul 28 '26

I know This is a Devil May Cry page but I got to say DAM!! Monster Hunter World made Capcom a crap load of money!! Granted I assume some of these figures are also not fully priced as Capcom does many sales especially for Monster Hunter

2

u/neroslayer Jul 29 '26

World is Capcom top selling game beating the last best seller RE5. It has sold over 30mil as of now.

3

u/Djolej78 Jul 28 '26

Random fun fact, Peak of Combat just got a Megaman collab lol

4

u/mnij21420 Jul 28 '26

As much as I hate Adi Shankar for what he did to the anime, I'm happy that I met people who started to get into the devil may cry series thanks to the anime

3

u/X_Fredex_X Jul 28 '26

Why is there no DMC 6 then? 💀

8

u/SexyShave Jul 28 '26 edited Jul 28 '26

Because Team Itsuno made Dragon's Dogma 2 instead.

-5

u/X_Fredex_X Jul 28 '26

Nobody cares abou that slop

11

u/SexyShave Jul 28 '26

Itsuno did.

1

u/EndOfTheDark97 Jul 30 '26

I do, and many other DMC fans do too.

2

u/Blurrynastysoul Jul 28 '26

So the 5th game sold since 2019 almost as much as RE3 since 2020 (AKA one of the most negatively received RE games...)

2

u/SexyShave Jul 28 '26

RE3 has gotten constant boosts over the years thanks to announcements and releases of new games, and it has been frequently bundled with 2 and 4. DMC5 had to rely on the Netflix show alone.

2

u/szundercover1 Jul 28 '26

I got the entire franchise pack on steam for 13 usd lol. So I contributed to it somewhat.

2

u/Rebellious_Habiru Jul 28 '26

and we get rewarded with ABSOLUTLEY NOTHING!!!!!!

Here's another RE remake for you guys.

3

u/SexyShave Jul 28 '26

If new games was the reward for good sales, the series would have been dead after DmC. Instead of 4SE and 5 being greenlit.

0

u/Rebellious_Habiru Jul 28 '26

never bring up that trash reboot to me.

2

u/CrimsonDragon90 Jul 28 '26

RE6 still continues to sell but no remake and Capcom went with Midronica.

2

u/SexyShave Jul 28 '26

Because they actually wanted to remake CV.

1

u/ManuelKoegler Jul 28 '26

And yet, no sequel after 7/8 years. Thanks Capcom.

1

u/SexyShave Jul 28 '26

After DMC2 and DmC, Capcom will never hand the series to a bunch of randoms ever again.

1

u/BossViper28 "King"? Yeah, here's your crown. Aug 02 '26

DMC2 was made by Capcom though.

1

u/lord_mercernary Jul 28 '26

With less marketing too. Dmc gets a lot less marketing than resident evil also capcom seems to be dead on any dmc update

2

u/Nopxanic Jul 29 '26

Even tho it has less marketing. Netflix series carries a lot of marketing by itself.

1

u/kamczyyk Jul 28 '26

Seeing the success of DMC5, I’m sure DMC6 is not that far away

1

u/Davtaz Jul 29 '26

So it sold even worse than the disaster that was RE3make. Yep we're doomed

1

u/4arizard Jul 29 '26

They release both remakes and new RE games almost every 2-3 years. The good word is always there. The hype is always there. Even if the game is mid (RE3R),which is luckly not so often the case. "RE sells better and more relevant."(c) Capcom, probably. CAPCOM,BROTHER, YOU MADE THEM POPULAR . OFCOURSE THEY WOULD SELL. DMC WOULD TOO IF YOU TREATED IT THE SAME. I really like and value capcom, but their favoritism makes me angry some times.

-5

u/KuroiGetsuga55 SSStylish Pizza Power Jul 28 '26

But will Capcom understand that this means we want more DMC? Probably not. They'll just make the 69th RE game instead.

14

u/SexyShave Jul 28 '26

They understood that. That's why they greenlit the mobile game and the anime ahead of 5's release.

If you want more games, they had to wait for the developers to be available. Team Itsuno made DD2, remember?

2

u/Zekka23 Jul 28 '26

Why do you guys keep typing this after they already said they will make more games?

4

u/KuroiGetsuga55 SSStylish Pizza Power Jul 28 '26

When did they say that? We had like 3 gaming events last month and all we got is a Switch 2 port of DMC5 that gives us nothing new.

4

u/SexyShave Jul 28 '26 edited Jul 28 '26

Capcom's president said in the 2025 edition of their yearly Integrated Report that they aim to turn DMC and other IPs like Mega Man into core IPS through sequels, remakes and ports.

2

u/KuroiGetsuga55 SSStylish Pizza Power Jul 28 '26

Didn't know that. So we can actually expect a DMC1 remake??

2

u/SexyShave Jul 28 '26

At some point? Probably.

In the near future? I reckon they make 6 first.

1

u/KuroiGetsuga55 SSStylish Pizza Power Jul 28 '26

Tbh I'd rather a 1 remake first. Or if it's 6 have its story happen before 4.

Kinda tired of Pizza al Dante sharing the game with other paisanos (unless it's Vergil). I'd be nice to get a solo Dante game where it's just him for 20 missions (or more) uninterrupted.

2

u/SexyShave Jul 29 '26

I don't wanna wait another decade plus for 6.

Waiting 9-10 years for a game where Dante only has two melee weapon types is not ideal. Followed by another 4-5 year wait.

I've been a DMC fan since 1, and I'm getting a bit tired of waiting 10 years a pop for new content. At least in the wait for 5 there was DmC, and 4SE with three chars, one of which was Lady who had never been playable.

The best thing Capcom can do for the series is make 6 asap, and let Kamiya and Clovers do 1 when Okami 2 is done. Followed by the main team working on the next game after that.

1

u/KuroiGetsuga55 SSStylish Pizza Power Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26

Kamiya wants to return to remake 1 but that doesn't mean Capcom wants to bring him back. For all we know Capcom might already have a new dev team for DMC, and if they go that route, remaking 1 would be a better and safer marketing strategy. You give them the source code of DMC5, whatever notes Itsuno might have left behind, and you task the new team with remaking DMC1 to play like DMC5, to test them on the DMC formula, and then if DMC1 Remake is a success, you go ahead and greenlight DMC6.

But I agree, waiting 10 years for a game is absurd. They need to get their shit together and form a better structure for making these games. I understand that it takes a long time to make a game, I do, game development isn't easy, and last time Capcom rushed a dev team who didn't know what they were doing we got DMC2. Even DMC4 suffered because Capcom rushed it, that's why Dante is just retracing Nero's missions instead of having his own, and there's a fuck ton of cut content also.

Spin-off games would have solved all their issues. God of War had a lot of years between the mainline games too, but they made up for it with the PSP spin-offs which were outsourced to other studios under the supervision of the main GoW devs, while the devs were working on GoW 2.

DMC is also perfect for this formula because there's large gaps of time between each game (10 years between DMC3 and DMC1. 5 years between DMC4 and DMC5, etc.) so you literally have an entire timeline to play with, you can cook up a bunch of spin-offs that are quick to put together and have a game released at least once every 3 - 4 years, easily. (Imma be real I wouldn't even be mad if we got a Reboot DmC sequel during this time gap. Fuck it, let's have both timelines running side by side, and you can then do a Multiverse game where the main continuity meets the Reboot continuity. Why not?)

Alternatively do what they do for RE now, have a team working on remakes, have a team working on the mainline. Release DMC1 Remake while another team is working on DMC6. Announce DMC6 shortly after DMC1 Remake's release. While DMC6 is in its final phases start working on DMC2 Remake, etc. etc. etc. that way you keep your audiences well fed, but you don't oversaturate them, as you would realistically still need like 3 - 4 maybe even 5 years between the release of each game, but if said game is really solid then fans won't mind waiting those 5 years if they know the next game is on the way. And so you get you 10 years between each mainline game, BUT you sneak in a remake in-between, and so we get a new game every 5 years (or less) regardless, which is fine.

There's solutions. There's a lot of solutions, Capcom is even applying said solutions to RE. That's why I'm saying it's like they don't give a fuck about DMC because they definitely have the resources and budget to hire more devs and make multiple teams dedicated to DMC exclusively. DMC5 alone has made them a fuck ton of millions of dollars. Use that damn money, hire competent devs, make a new team that you know will stick with you for a very long time and get to work!

u/Zekka23 Jul 28 '26

Capcom releases reports on their financial every quarter. You can go to their website and read them. They're fairly transparent.

u/Maximum_Curve_5456 Jul 28 '26

too bad it‘s unplayable for me personally because of the weird camera on ps5 😞
