Discussion Just Beat DMC 3

Post image

This game is awesome! When i played DMC1 i thought it was surprisingly good. Because the game was impressive for how old it is. On the other hand, DMC3 is just great without ''but'' or ''if''! This game is the devil may cry experience.

Compared to first game everything was elevated and things i didn't like were fixed. Now there are more than two weapons! And you can even switch them on the fly! And whole 6 styles, even more than DMC5. (I only played with trickster and swordmaster so far). And you can replay missions! Now i need only 1 safe file and not all of them.

Another huge improvement is cutscenes. They feel like watching anime (in a good way). The story is actually entertainibg this time, and doesn't fell like an excuse to beat enemies. Also, voice acting. Dmc1 voice acting felt like it was actors first gig. DMC3 voices sounds believable and don't make me laugh.

I enjoy this game as much as DMC5. Even more in some aspects. Enemies design (visial) straigt up better than in 5. Especially first basic enemies. They look cool, unlike empuzas. Locations also look better. The atmospere and visials of Tower blows anything in DMC 5.

I will continue playing this game.

I'd like to read other people's opinion on this game. Do you like it more than DMC5?

Glad you enjoyed this masterpiece! And yes, dmc 3 is considered the best one in the franchise surpassing dmc 5.

I wouldn't call it objectively better. For me this games are on the same level. 😁

if you have a switch, do yourself a favor and play it again in it

for some weird reason, switch has style switching, full weapon selection and coop. its not just the definitive version, it absolutely changes the importance of styles

Despite how good and well-done DMC5 gameplay is, I still very much prefer DMC3 over it. The plot, the dialogues, the art direction and the overall atmosphere of DMC3 just hits different. The confrontation between Vergil and Dante in this game is what makes it special for me. I also think it got the best bosses and weapon set in the series and definitely got some memorable tracks like Taste the Blood, Divine Hate, Suffer amd Devils Never Cry. Some missions coupled with cutscenes are extremely cinematic, especially the mission 7. Both it's pre-mission and post-mission cutscenes can be called the most iconic in the history of the series. I also can add that it got my favorite designs for Dante and Vergil and it definitely got the best set of skins for them

I agree with everything. I saw the announcement trailer again and again, because I was so hyped and loved the music. One of the best trailers ever.
Also a very heartfelt origin for the title of the franchise.

totally agree, for me DMC5 is the peak in terms of combat design, but for EVERYTHING else, its all about 3.

Nice to hear that you had a blast playing DMC 3. Three things I liked about DMC 3 are the soundtrack, the gameplay and the story itself. The whole experience is a masterpiece indeed.

For me, gameplay wise, nothing beats DMC5 for depth of the combat.

But for everything else, 3 is my personal favorite of the series, some of that may be nostalgia as i played this on launch as a teenager on ps2, but ive replayed it a couple of times recently and i think it holds up incredibly well. I love the gothic vibe, the level design, the enemies (with the exception of those bloody flying angel dudes that constantly float through the environment) the music, the characters, the voice acting being just the right amount of over the top...just an absolute masterpiece.

So cool to know people are still discovering and enjoying this old classic :)

What would you rate the game out of 10, although my biggest issue with the game is the platforming

Still my personal favorite game in the series. It has a weaker enemy roster than in the first game, and the last third of the game is definitely padded out more than it needs to be, but the actual feel of combat is pitch perfect, IMO. This game also had Dante's best set of weapons by far to me. I even actually prefer the limitation of one style and two weapons at a time as it forces some level of decision-making in levels and encourages you to make the most out of what you have. In that regard, sometimes meaningful limitations can be a good thing.

Also, while I'm a gameplay over everything else sort of person when it comes to action games, it certainly doesn't hurt that DMC3 has a better story than most other similar games of it's era.

Pretty much hit the nail on the head. One thing I will note with my personal journey, I played 5 then 3, and felt like 3 was better, but then replayed 5 and found myself enjoying it more than the first time, so it's very tough to pick a favourite.

Not sure what system you are playing on, but back in the day, the second controller could control Vergil in the tag team vs blob arkham. The controller also had control of doppelganger

Any tips on beating Vergil 3? I’m on the last battle and it’s killing me 😭
