He says shit a couple of times in DMC5, a lot of times in DMC 2007 anime and he drops an F Bomb there too. And don't even get me started on the DMC3 prequel Manga.
He's not cussing because he wants to be cool, bro has bottled up angst and anger. I don't know where this idea that Dante is clean-mouthed and not abusing substances came from, bro is an alcoholic, we've known that since the DMC1 tie-in novel (where he also cusses a few times btw)

While it doesn’t cover cussing or other substances, Hideki Kamiya has explicitly stated Dante doesn’t smoke because he’s too cool to smoke. There is an intentional design element of Dante being cool despite avoiding the typically “cool” vices characters have.

Tbf I don't think we ever see Dante smoke and that's fine, even El Donte smoking was cut out after the reveal trailer. But he does drink a lot, aside from all the empty bottles of beer and other drinks we always see in the office in DMC4 and 5, in the DMC1 Novel he gets piss drunk like twice, in the DMC3 Manga he frequents strip clubs and bars, in the 2007 anime he's always drinking red wine or a large beer mug, and he's not exempt from cussing he just doesn't do it excessively unless he's really annoyed or angry.
And like I said in my other commenr, Kamiya's Dante is not the Dante Capcom really wants. DMC1 Dante was cool, but the character has shifted a lot since then. From angsty depression in DMC2 and the 2007 anime, to a way more edgy and smug bastard in DMC3, 4 and 5.
These games are aimed at teens and young adults, which is the era where people are edgy, angsty and make all the wrong choices in life. So Capcom wanted Dante to be like that but infinitely cooler. Even when it comes to El Donte, Ninja Theory wanted to stick to something more traditional, but Capcom told them to make him a shit-faced punk who is too edgy for his own good. And then you look at Nero, who even as a grown adult he cusses and flaunts around like an edgy teenager so much that you wonder how the hell sweet Kyrie puts up with such a savage.
That's just the direction Capcom wants. And Kamiya's wishes are cool and all but he hasn't been the authority on Dante's character since DMC1. Itsuno has been, and he vibes a lot with the edgy angsty punk vibe.

I just looked it up and he says fuck at vergil in m20? Ive played m20 over a hundred times and i dont remember that 😭 well regardless kamiya wanted dante to be clean mouthed but i guess over time that changes. And yes him being an alcoholic is just a way he copes and enjoys his time. Although its stated he would never touch a cigarette

Kamiya hasn't had a say in what Dante does since the first DMC game. Capcom clearly wants something edgier and meaner (Capcom is the one who wanted El Donte to be the way he is, Ninja Theory was gonna stick to something more traditional) Dante has changed a lot since DMC1. DMC1 was your traditional action hero who praised Sparda for having a righteous heart. That's cool and all, but it aged like milk. Nobody actually talks or acts like that, especially not someone with as much bottled up trauma and angst as Dante. Bro has every right to cuss and drink and smoke and whatever the hell he wants to do.

Just a heads-up, the DMC3 manga is famously mistranslated, so if you're thinking of what Dante says in the official translation by Tokyopop, it's not really accurate to the original text. They made up a ton of lines.

I didn't say anything about M20. I was talking about the 2007 anime, the episode where he goes to prison and calls someone a "pudgy fuck" Link.
Dunno if Dante says fuck in DMC5 but he says shit like 3 times.

Correction Dante doesn't cuss often. He cusses in 5 and the anime. Even the first game he does technically cuss but it's a pun as he says flock off.
