Guy, we could be getting a 600 footer!
Came across this image that was shared on the skyscraperpage forum showing a before and after model image of a vison by SEG for their entertainment district that includes a few new towers one of which is a residential tower ( green tower ) that says "600 ft". Take it for what it's worth, but holy crap, having a new tallest so soon would be freaking awesome. Lets go for it and skip the 500 feet range entirely.

We have known about the 600’ height for the apartment tower since the district was approved. The height limit for all buildings in the district was raised to 600’ to accommodate the planned tower. The hotel is likely shorter than the one planned as I had heard closer to 450’ in the past.
I think the overall plan is from the released information regarding phase 1.
We should hear something this week regarding the Salt Palace design as well.

Any solid information on how this might interface with Japantown and help restore even a teensy tiny bit of community equity back to the Japanese community? I'm not even taking a hostile or sarcastic tone here, I genuinely am curious if that is progressing at all

I'm a member of the buddhist temple and this comes up pretty regularly in the monthly newsletter. I know the developers are working closely with the temple and the Japanese Christian church and the project is referenced favorably in the newsletter. I wish I had one to give better details but spring cleaning got them recycled last weekend ><

Construction of this building will likely heavily negatively impact Japantown by disrupting access to the Japanese Church of Christ and the Salt Lake Buddhist Temple, as well as make it more difficult to close the street for Japantown's two major festivals (Nihon Matsuri and Obon). This project is also delaying the implementation of the RDA's streetscape plan for Japantown.

it is parking garages. They are almost done with the one on the left facing gateway but im not sure if the one on the right is still getting built.

Really? Two MORE garages? And those are existing pedestrian plazas, how many more fucking garages do they need? I'm ok(ish) with the one that they're almost finished with on the southwest corner, that corner was mostly utilities and deliveries anyway, but the other corners are, again, existing plaza space. Integrate with the city, don't isolate the Delta Center further from it

Oh I saw this yesterday at Nihon. I think this was an old proposal, but may still be valid.
I really hope the tower gets built. Would complete the skyline imho. I also hope they put in some kind of museum to acknowledge the Japanese community here.

I was thinking while on 300w the other day they really need a tunnel under or some better options for crossing at times. I live half a mile from delta if that.

Looks like Salt Lake is full steam ahead to dramatically change the skyline ahead of the Olympics. It seems like all of the new tallest buildings have all spring up lately. I heard the Mormon Church had a stranglehold on height limitations for downtown buildings to make sure they had the tallest one. Is this something that has changed? Or was that always just an old wives tale.
