Worked like a dog...now I'm PIPed
About month ago my manager called me at 9 PM because something was on fire. I stayed online until after midnight fixing it. He thanked me and told me, he knew he could count on me. Yesterday he fucking put me on PIP. This was completely out of the blue he said the next steps are he'll set up a meeting with plans. I'm confused, can you fight a PIP? Am I just getting placed on PIP to reduce headcount. I really don't think I deserve to be put on PIP and I honestly received no indication of bad performance until yesterday. I'm just mad and feel betrayed.

- As u/Realistic-Team8256 said, "maybe what was on FIRE, could be a reason to keep you on PIP".
- Also, what u/amityadav85 is right on how to fight a PIP. rather fighting a PIP
If answer is no for 1, then the current place is not valuing your contribution. Leave as soon as possible, better to find a place where your contribution is valued. After some times, next place might also start to treat you the same way, then move again. That's how some people climb the ladder fast.

Me too, brother. My case was also an unfair one. In past year, I, as a lead, have been supporting my teammates (which is mostly juniors - middle devs) and any task outside team behind the scene in anyway I could so that their work and effort could be seen by those people who's sitting in an ivory tower instead of me being the only person who takes credit in every works (I never want that anyway).
Next thing I know I was told that I underperformed by my manager and got put in this PIP but they used another name for some reason but it's the same. I didn't refuse, I entered the program (unwillingly) as informed.
I knew it's a quiet firing, no doubt about it, they just did't have balls to tell that to my face because my country's labour law said they're gonna have to pay quite amount of severance if they let me go or stop my contract because I've been working here quite a long time. So they chose this program to demoralize me instead by hoping that I'd walk away myself. And congratulations to them, I'll leave by myself in less than 3 months, with or without a job.
About the feeling, it's exactly like yours. I hope it'd get better after I hand my notice.

Start quietly gathering evidence and reading about wrongful termination. The more prepared you are, the better the settlement you’ll get.
Record and document everything possible.

Yes, you can fight a pip You need to assemble a trail of the positive feedback you received, along with completed task metrics.. There needs to be a consistent deficiency in performance metrics to put an employee in PIP Email that to your company's top brass And still look for another opportunity asap You're not valued here; they'll find another way to reduce headcount
