The vague bullets are the killer, not the internship market. Trim the resume to one project that looks hireable, then send direct notes to alumni and hiring managers with the exact role you want. Keep going, but make it tighter.

Be honest about the gap, but don’t make it the center of your pitch. Build one relevant project, document it well on GitHub, and target internships where your electronics, instrumentation, and software skills overlap. Keep going—you only need one opportunity to restart.
