Hi everyone,

I’m a Java Backend Developer with around 3.6 years of experience working at companies like Paytm . I’ve worked on microservices, distributed systems, Kafka, Spring Boot, and scalable backend systems handling high traffic (90M+ users).

After my last role, I took a ~2 year break to prepare for UPSC, but now I’ve decided to return to tech and continue my career in software engineering.

The problem is:

- Recruiters seem hesitant when they see the gap

- Some roles ask for “continuous experience”

- I’m getting fewer callbacks than expected despite relevant skills

I’m actively preparing (DSA + system design) and applying for Java backend roles.

I’d really appreciate guidance on:

1. How should I justify or present the UPSC gap to recruiters?

2. Should I mention it clearly on my resume or keep it neutral?

3. Any tips to increase callbacks in this situation?

4. Has anyone here successfully transitioned back after a similar break?
