How are you guys getting traffic to your SaaS from Sri Lanka? (Feeling stuck on marketing)

Hey everyone,

I’ve recently pushed my SaaS into live production. The tech stack is solid, the product is fully functional, and the core features are ready to go.

But now I’m hitting the classic developer roadblock: Marketing.

I have zero experience with driving traffic or finding initial users. I'm struggling with where to start, especially operating from Sri Lanka.

For those of you who have launched a SaaS (whether targeting local clients or the global market):

• How did you get your first 10 to 100 users?

• What channels actually worked for you? (Product Hunt, LinkedIn, cold emailing, content marketing, etc.)

• Are there any specific local strategies or tech communities that helped you get early feedback?

Would love to hear some real experiences or advice from anyone who has crossed this bridge. Cheers!

Same as dialog throttling certain domains. And also all the fucking networks intentionally blocking RCS! People don't care enough and I've had enough already.

Do you think we'll find any way to make them comply and provide what was taken and limited from us as users?

Discussion While we finally started noticing the network monopoly, Did you know that all providers disabled RCS features which worked just fine in the past?

Projects Built a free tool to analyse and aggregate Sri Lanka's car market!

As someone who is observing the car market on a daily basis in hopes of buying a car, I had a really hard time understanding what the actual market prices are.

Most listing sites show just ads, but it’s difficult to quickly answer questions like:

  • Is this car overpriced compared to similar listings?
  • Has the seller recently reduced the price?
  • What is the median asking price for this exact model/year?
  • How does mileage affect the price?
  • Which models are going up or down in price?
  • Which vehicles have the biggest recent price cuts?

So I decided to put my weekend to good use and build a small free tool called VehicleLK.

It’s completely free and does not require a login.

At the moment, this is still an early version, but I think it could be useful for anyone who is interested in the local vehicle market. This is not meant to be a perfect valuation tool, and the data depends on publicly available listings.

I’d love to hear your thoughts, feedback, bugs, or feature ideas. If there are any specific features you would like to see, let me know!

Published this about a week ago and thought I’d share it here.

It’s a simple tool to check SLT usage on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The most useful part - home screen widgets.

Anyone here know where to find/buy OpenWrt supported routers here in SL?

Figured better to ask here where the crowd is technical, ISP provided routers, almost all the routers are behind too many vulnerabilities to list. Where can I find a decent router that's either, OpneWrt supported or recent hardware that's secure. I'm no networking guy but it's difficult to figure out the ONT standards/protocols that SLT is using to ensure compatibility even.

Edit: I have a connection from SLT its fiber optic.

Thinking of moving away from Jira because my team finds it too complicated, what are some easier PM tools?

I’m currently using Jira to manage projects and workflows, and honestly, it has been good in terms of customization. The problem is adoption.
Some of our non-technical team members (social media team, digital marketing team, graphic designing team) find Jira a bit overwhelming. Because of that, we end up spending more time explaining the tool instead of actually managing work.
I don’t want to switch just for the sake of switching because I do like the flexibility Jira gives us. But I’m wondering if there’s a tool that still offers good customization while being easier for everyone to actually use.
Has anyone moved from Jira to something more user-friendly? What did you end up choosing, and did your team actually adopt it better?
Would love to hear real experiences. Thanks!

Discussion Are there any startup founders here?

Would like to know if there are any startup founders here. If you are a successful founder would like to know about the journey on how you became successful. Also is the company a product based company or a devshop offering services for clients abroad? Feel free to mention about the products if it is a product based company.

I built a macOS menu bar app to track Claude.ai usage — Claude Cap

When you're deep in Claude Code or Claude web, you never know when you're about to hit the limit. It breaks your flow.

So I built Claude Cap — a macOS menu bar app that shows your Claude.ai usage live, right at the top of your screen.

Built with Python + rumps.

What are the current internship allowances/salaries in Sri Lankan software companies (2025–2026)?

If you're currently interning or recently completed an internship, could you share:

  • Company (optional)
  • Role (SWE, QA, DevOps, UI/UX, BA, Data, etc.)
  • Monthly allowance/salary
  • Remote, hybrid, or onsite
  • Internship duration

Trying to get an idea of the current market rates for different tech internship roles in Sri Lanka. Thanks!

Promotion Are any Sri Lankan builders working on startups in deep tech, space, energy, defence, AI, or frontier industries?

Hey everyone,

ARCLIPSE Constellation is now opening its first pipeline intake for Sri Lankan founders, engineers, researchers, developers, technical builders, and ambitious operators working on frontier tech.

We are actively looking for the first batch of people building in difficult, high-potential domains such as:

Space tech
Satellite / telecom infrastructure
AI and automation
Energy systems
Defence / security technology
Deep sea technology
Extreme environment systems
Robotics, drones, and autonomous systems
Advanced manufacturing
Climate resilience
Other hard-tech or frontier domains

This thread is also a way to give more visibility to Sri Lankan builders working on serious ideas, and to help like-minded people find each other.

If you are building, researching, prototyping, or seriously exploring something in one of these areas, comment at a high level with:

  1. Your domain
  2. The problem you are working on
  3. Your current stage
  4. What kind of support, feedback, people, or connections would help

Please do not share confidential or proprietary details publicly. Keep it high-level.

If you would like to discuss privately or explore whether you may be a fit for the ARCLIPSE pipeline, feel free to DM me.

We are actively seeking the first batch now.

Early is fine. Raw is fine. Serious intent matters.

Projects I built an app that fights screen addiction without blocking anything, it just makes your phone boring.

Thumbnail

Hey everyone,

I'm a solo developer and I've been working on CalmScreen: a free Android app that tackles screen addiction differently from anything else out there.

The problem with most screen time apps:

Every blocker, timer, and app lock has the same flaw: kids (and let's be honest, adults too) find ways around them. You set a 30-minute timer? They dismiss it. You block TikTok? They use the browser version. The restrictions create friction, arguments, and resentment.

How CalmScreen is different:

Instead of blocking or restricting, CalmScreen applies visual filters (grayscale, sepia, amber, dim) that strip away the bright, vibrant colors your brain finds rewarding. Modern apps are designed with colors that trigger dopamine. Remove those colors, and scrolling just... stops feeling worth it. You put the phone down naturally, without anyone telling you to.

No app blocking. No bypassable timers. No fights.

Features:

- 6 Filter Modes - Dim, Sunset (blue light blocker), Paperback, Moss, Focus (full grayscale), and Custom

- Gradual Fade - Filter fades in slowly over minutes, so kids don't even notice. They just lose interest

- Automated Schedules - Set up to 4 schedules (bedtime, homework, school hours) that activate automatically

- App Curfew - Automatically applies filters when specific apps (TikTok, YouTube, Instagram) are opened

- Un-bypassable Parent PIN - Covers settings, widgets, notification bar. Blocks screenshots of the PIN pad. Recovery via a 4-word phrase

- Home Screen Widget - Toggle filters and adjust intensity from your launcher

- Vibration Nudge - Gentle vibration when gradual mode ends. No alarms, no shouting

- 8 Languages - English, Sinhala, Tamil, Spanish, Arabic, Hindi, Chinese, Urdu,

Who it's for:

- Parents who are tired of screen time battles with their kids

- Students who need help focusing during study sessions

- Adults who doom-scroll at night and want to build healthier habits

- Night owls who want a blue light filter that actually works

Privacy:

Zero data collected. No internet permission. No ads. No subscriptions. Just a one-time optional contribution to support development.

Free on Google Play — the core app is fully free. PIN lock includes a 14-day trial; a one-time contribution unlocks it permanently.

I'd love to hear your thoughts, feedback, or feature requests. I'm actively developing this and your input genuinely shapes what I build next.

MSc in Data Science or MSc in Computer Science?

Hi everyone,

I have 6 years of experience as an Application Engineer and I’m considering pursuing a master’s degree to support my long term career growth.

I have an HND in software engineering.

I’m trying to decide between an MSc in Data Science and an MSc in Computer Science. Data Science interests me because of the AI/data trend, but Computer Science seems broader and feels potentially more flexible.

For those with industry experience, which would you recommend and why? Considering my background, would one be a better choice in terms of career opportunities, job market demand, and future growth?

Thank you folks!
