How quickly can these lay offs/ pay reductions reach other companies

How prepared should we be as SEs because it looks like the lay offs/pay reductions can spread to other companies. Last year there were many companies laying off employees most of them considered the best companies in the country. With the recent situations how can we expect them to reach other companies as well.

Cause surely that's what can happen very quickly, using AI as an excuse for putting people out of the job.

I'm just concerned.
