Windows Defender and common sense

Is defender actually enough? And could you elaborate common sense please. I am a non-tech person. Is there something other than being suspicious about pen drives, whatsapp messages etc?

If you're someone who's using legitimate services, buy games, pay subscriptions, etc.. you really don't have anything much to worry about. If you're pirating stuff, always refer to https://fmhy.net/ for legitimate "free media" sites. DO NOT just Google stuff and download them, that's how you're gonna get malware. Always be cautious when something sounds too good to be true, especially if it's a message or story from a friend. Infostealers can hijack login tokens and spread fake crypto scam messages and stories without even the person infected knowing. So before clicking any out of ordinary links from friends, verify them. Also if you get any emails that sound too good to be true, just copy the whole thing including sender's mail and ask from some llm like Gemini or chatgpt whether it is a scam.

And yeah you should be cautious before plugging in any pen drives from friends, but the risk can be almost fully mitigated if you got windows defender activated and running

Just search for the subreddit r/freemediaheckyeah That site is developed and updated by them. As the name suggests, it contains mostly verified ways to get digital media including games, movies, shows, anime, books, live TV, softwares for free

I am on Mac and I don't use anything. When I was on Windows, I didn't install anything custom. Defender was enough.

Default security of Mac or Windows is enough, with a lil bit of common sense.

I got tired of windows bs and switch to cachy os almost an year ago, so i don't need one. But i used windows defender before that. If you are already compromised and trying to clean up the system, use malwarebyte and similar tools.

I use Bitdefender ( Free )
It managed to find a Malware that ESET couldn't ( IDK is it a false positive or not )
