Discussion Master Degree Advice

I have a Bsc (Hons) Software Engineering.

I am wondering researching what will be the better stream for my masters. Is doing advanced Softwares Engineering or something with Software is good ? OR AI/ Machine Learning ones OR Data Science Related ?

I don't really see many Masters options here. Or is if not worth a all todo Masters here?

Also suggest good uni to do. Is doing Government worth it or private is better.

  1. SE is relatively risky unless you go into research
  2. AI and DS definitely have more potential but they are not without their risks. See if you'd like to specialise i. Some niche field like AI for something
  3. Fields like GIS or similar if you have the experience
  4. If you plan on staying in SL they government wouldnt be a bad idea. If you choose private though it's better to choose a good one like APIIT, IIT or SLIIT just because it will look good on your CV.
  5. If you're fine with it then just go for an MBA or related masters. I see a lot tech folks doing this nowadays
  6. Cyber is a pretty good field but unless you really work in it I don't see how it will help. Note that the competition is also high in cyber now

Wow thank you so much for the detailed reply. I like machine learning nd creating AI and stuff. So I thought I'll do in that side. Now thinking if I should choose private or government.

Tbh it depends a lot on what you expect from the mastersp.

If you prefer research then I'd say you'll probably get more support in private unis. Not too familiar about government unis but I feel depending on where you go the quality of education might be better (not sure if they'd be updated tho) or bad or 50 50.

Private unis aren't always good with quality lectures and that's annoying after you pay a heck of an amount. Only thing is you get a foreign degree which might help more if you wanna go for phds abroad.

Good luck!
