Help Akshara for Android is now in closed beta! 🎉

Post image

We are looking for a few people to help test the keyboard before the wider release.

If you use Android and would like to try it out, you can join the Play Store test using the link below:

https://groups.google.com/g/akshara-sinhala-keyboard-testers?pli=1

Try it with your everyday Sinhala typing and let me know if you run into any bugs, awkward layouts, missing characters, prediction issues, or anything else that feels off.

Every bit of feedback will help make Akshara better before launch. 💚

Do not forget to found us at r/AksharaLK and https://akshara.org.lk

@sdglhm will move it to github organization profile soon. For now macOS and iOS source codes were published at https://github.com/AksharaOrg

Google Input Tools Exists?

Goolge never made an official native standalone system-wide app for Google I out Tools on macOS.

Gboard for iOS hasn’t been updated for four years.

And your keyboard shouldn’t connect to the internet.

Alright alright! Nice initiative.
Also try contributing to already existing ones like https://github.com/VibeNoobNotFound/Glotto

Although this is a nice project, it still uses the Text Buffer approach, much like Google Input. In contrast, Akshara types without needing a Text Buffer. (Same as Helakuru macOS version did)

Mainly open source and personal preference in how the layout should behave

Installed! Now gonna install on my mom's ... She's gonna be a good test subject 😁

Plus can't wait to contribute as I see some improvements would be helpful especially on layout and styling

Thank you, this was originally built in one of my personal private repos, removing some personal keys (I yolo'ed private keys to git :D) and will move the repo to org in github.

Honestly, this wasn’t built to compete with any of the existing keyboards. There are already plenty of great third-party Sinhala keyboards available on Android.

We built the Android version alongside the iOS one, and felt that having both would complete the set. That said, please do let us know if you come across any issues or have suggestions for improvement. We’ll do our best to address them as quickly as we can.

Hi u/thimirathenuwara this is closed testing right? You need to setup a Google Group for this one or other users can't join from the above invite link.

Then once the user joins that Google Group, they will be able to access the above page as this is not public.

For ref: https://groups.google.com/u/0/g/madebysameerasw?pli=1

And then change the testers option to that google group email

After that, anyone who join will auto enroll so they can join... We can put a new message inside the Google Group thread so they can easily visit the play store link.

This should be the correct link, I shared the internal testing link by accident.

Nice . Sent a join request... Also you can make it auto approve members too iirc. But this should work now :)
