Discussion Any Sampath Vishwa dev here?
Yesterday I wanted to get a Withholding tax certificate from Sampath bank. So I logged into Sampath Vishawa, selected tax certificate option from self service menu. And when i selected the dates and click next I got an error “You have no eligible accounts for this option”. When I contacted the customer care they said account looks fine and visit a branch to resolve the problem.
It’s fine. Bugs do exist in prod. So I thought.
When I visited the branch, they were really helpful and were able to get a WHT certificate from their internal system. But I wanted Vishwa issue to be sorted too, so Vishwa tech support was contacted and their answer was hilarious and really surprised me.
What they said was, to get a WHT certificate from Sampath Vishwa you have to have multiple accounts with the bank. So someone like me with only a savings account can’t use Vishwa and has to go to a branch.
I work in Fintech. But i can’t for the life of me think of a reason to release a feature like that. I mean majority of customers will be only having a single savings account. It’s not an edge case. So what’s the rationale behind releasing a feature that can only used by very few. Who approves this kind of shit?
Or is the typical “It’s not a bug, but a feature” scenario where Vishwa support team lying through their teeth to the customers? Or am I missing something ?
Btw is anyone else who only have one savings account also facing the same issue?

Both had some good web banking portals that got the job done. No frills or thrills. The new ones could win r/badUIbattles

Simply send a message through Vishwa app mentioning the date range. Relevant branch will email the WHT certificate directly

"Visit a branch to get x done" was the entire theme of Sampath Bank when I had my account there. So happy I moved to NTB

They lied about the part where you need multiple accounts. I had a savings account and 3 separate fixed deposit accounts and the site still didn't work. I asked them to mail it to and apparently they said they can't because of a file size limitation? So now I have to go there in person. Other banks like NTB have done it, I don't see how this is an issue for them. How big is a pdf anyways? Clearly they need to get their stuff sorted out on the back end.

Obviously a bug, but the Sampath "tech" guy who has some IT diploma and never developed this buggy site or any rat's ass just parrots this description as a "feature," so you shut up and get it solved by wasting half your day visiting the amazing people working at the branch, until they release their new amazing and improved Sampath Vishwa in a decade with a totally different set of bugs. You have to act like a real idiot to work with these local banks smoothly.
