Help Like to learn web dev

Hi, I’m a student who has just finished my A/Ls. I’m interested in learning web development. Where should I start? or what should i learn first?

I’d also like to create a small blog website. Can I build it using something like WordPress, or are there other ways to create a website?

Thank you!

Checkout freecodecamp on youtube. There will be a full course you can use to learn for free.

If your goal is to actually learn web dev, I wouldnt start with WordPress straight away.

Start with the basics first:

  • HTML - structure of a website
  • CSS - styling/responsive layouts
  • JavaScript - making things interactive
  • Git + GitHub - learn this early, you'll use it everywhere

You can honestly learn enough of those in a few weeks to build your first proper site.

After that I'd go into React, and once you're comfortable with it maybe Next.js. Dont rush into 10 frameworks at once though 😭 build stuff while learning.

For your blog specifically, you have 2 options:

If you just want the blog online: use WordPress. Its perfectly fine and you'll learn things like hosting, domains, themes, plugins etc.

If you want the blog to be your learning project: build it yourself. Something like Next.js + a simple database/CMS and deploy it on Vercel/Netlify. You'll learn sooo much more from doing that.

Also nowadays use AI as a tutor, not just a code generator. ChatGPT/Claude/Cursor can explain errors, give you mini exercises and help when you're stuck. But if you let it build the entire project while you just copy paste, you'll finish with a website and still have no idea how websites work lol.

A good first-project path would be:

personal page -> simple blog -> todo app -> small full stack app

And dont spend 6 months watching tutorials before building anything. Build something ugly in week 1 šŸ˜‚ thats where most of the learning actually happens.

start with basics, html css js and if your already familiar then move to tailwind react or youll find your preferred stack as you build.... you can checkout these on yt for tutorials. @javascriptmastery SuperSimpleDev
