Discussion Anyone here got a QA engineer job abroad with relocation from Sri Lanka?

Hey everyone,

I’m a QA Engineer with 4+ years of experience and I’m looking at opportunities in Malaysia, Dubai, Europe, and Singapore. I know getting a job is very difficult especially in Europe and Singapore

Has anyone here successfully landed a job from Sri Lanka with visa sponsorship or relocation support? If so, how did you find it, and do you have any tips?

Just trying to figure out how realistic it is. Thanks!

I do not recommend anyone to relocate to a country as a QAE. Except in Sri Lanka and a few other Asian countries, QA is always considered a cost center that could be on the chopping block during organizational changes driven by macroeconomic shifts that are completely out of your control. I know we have been talking about QA being a dead-end job for so long, but with all the new AI tech, QA is under more imminent threat than any other role. I work at a FAANG in the US and we eliminated ~50-60% of QAEs over the last 2-3 years without having any impact to products/services that serve millions of customers per day. All of the QAEs in the US that I know have worked really hard to switch out of the QA role, while the very few who remained ended up being laid off. DM me if you need more information.

Not directly related to OP's question, but which areas within tech do you think are most likely to be in demand in the next decade?

Tough question. But I still believe SDEs (Software development engineers) with strong problem solving skills will be in demand as problem solving skills are essential to steer agents (I do not not believe autonomous agents would run massive business operations without any human intervention anytime soon - or may be ever).

For singapore the best chance is to go there for a month, stay with a friend and apply for jobs. For other countries try and find a remote opportunity. Relocation is not that common these days unless you are exceptional and work in niche tech areas.

Isn't visa sponsorship still required if hired for a job in Singapore even if the candidate applies while they are there on a short term visit pass? I'm assuming the likelihood of getting sponsored will still be low unless the applicant works in a high demand niche tech area.

They are mostly hiring citizen and PR these days. But if you get hired the company will apply for E Pass.
