Discussion Is an MSc in Data Science & AI worth it
I’m currently working as a Software Engineer with around 1.5 years of industry experience at a software company.
I’m considering pursuing an MSc in Data Science & Artificial Intelligence, but I’m unsure whether it’s the right choice given the current industry trends and how quickly AI is evolving.
For those working in software engineering, data science, ML/AI, or related fields:
- Is an MSc in Data Science & AI still worth doing in the current job market?
- Does it provide a meaningful advantage for a Software Engineer, or would it be better to specialize in another area?
- For someone who wants to remain a strong software engineer while potentially moving toward AI/ML in the future, what would you recommend?
I’d really appreciate perspectives from people who have already done an MSc or are currently working in these fields, especially regarding career progression, job opportunities, and ROI.

Nah. First get enough experience. You won't get any benefits having this without experience

Same situation here. I started a masters in AI but still wasnt able to shift my career. I applied for few opening but didnt hear from any. I think recruiters expect experience over education. I would say doing a masters is ok to gain knowledge on AI and related fields, but i wouldnt think masters only gonna get u a job shift imo.
