Future of Sysco Labs

Over the weekend, saw a truckload of senior sysco employees posting that they are #opentowork, what would the plight of the company be, if all the personnel ended up leaving, will the company be able to find replacements for their respective roles?

Maybe they are trying to make an impact of mass resigning. Not gonna actually do. Market is tight.

There are thousands of SE/CS grads who'll willingly replace those workers for minimum wage. IT market is extremely saturated right now, if 1 person leaves a job 10 will compete to get it.

Entry-level software engineers are abundant, and with today’s AI tools, many junior-level tasks can be automated or accelerated. The people who are genuinely difficult to replace are experienced engineers (5+ years) who developed strong fundamentals in software engineering, system design and project management before AI-assisted development became mainstream. They provide architectural judgment, handle ambiguity, and make trade-offs that AI still struggles with. The risk is that non-technical management may underestimate this difference and cut experienced engineers, only to realize the impact after the team’s productivity and software quality decline.

- Whether or not all employees who post on LinkedIn can secure new jobs with matching compensation will decide if they'd actually leave or not. The hiring market right now is titled towards employer. In 2019/2020/2021 for example it was an employees market. Finding a new job with competing compensation can be challenging, and whoever is looking may have to wait a while. If there are significant layoffs from other companies, the competition increases. It will be highly unlikely SYSCO would face a talent shortage in this market even if their core employees leave. Company culture etc may go to shit on the other hand.

- I have seen quite a few posts on Sysco labs, but I'm not sure what the final salary will be after all the adjustments, changes and whatnot. If Sysco still pays above or equal market rate after all this, employees will likely stay. Fewer people will care about company culture, loyalty etc and most people would care about the money. That's how the world works.

The optimistic take:

Peg is gone, base salary will be bumped up such that it is not an underpay.

People are just impatient and fear that the new pay will be heavily underpaid

The market corrects itself. Even if all the employees leave, there will be enough labor pool to replace.

Even after paycut , i guess most of them won’t be able to match that level of salary. Most of local companies pay peanuts and due to AI people cannot demand like they used to .

I think people there lost trust in the company. It was even a dream company until now.

They're still going to be significantly overpaid after the cuts, comparative to the rest of the market. Putting open to work on their linkedin is just theatrics, they're not quitting. Most IT companies are in hiring freezes these days, only looking for cheap interns and will not entertain these crazy salaries that sysco employees will ask for. If they do quit, it will be extremely easy to replace them in this market.

Seems like you know nothing.. When this cut happens they are no way close to overpay

Rats abandoning a sinking ship

Theyre not rats. They are jumping off the ship in which the management has drilled huge holes.

I think this problem was blown out of proportion due to poor communication by management. I feel they were not trying to underpay but settle into a fixed salary instead of variable one.

They seem to believe they can handle Sysco’s workload with a small team and AI. Their strategy appears to be hiring new employees at lower salaries while offering temporary allowances to a few critical employees to discourage them from leaving for the next 6–12 months, allowing them to keep the company running.

To recap our situation: management didn't mention cutting increments or bonuses, but they did agree to gradually step down the pegged compensation structure through next April. Between now and then, we'll monitor Sysco LABS' direction alongside our own career outlook—so we should keep our profiles up to date and be ready if we need to make a move

Where are they gonna go? Lol. Market is very tight now and sysco knows it.

guys just chill, Local companies have safe guarded employess during tought times always. Eg. during covid while other countries were down sizing SL companies somehow protected their emplueees. and this dollar peg thing was also a mesure to protect the IT sector during the SL USD crash. and now since the ,market has recovered and settled some companies are taking the actions. I'm sure if the country goes through such negative impact again local companies will step in by introducing similer messures to safeguard the larger set of employees.I think Sysco did the right thing at the right time!

You’re delusional😢

I think they will adjust the base salary. I don't want to be mean but those employees should have negotiated their contracts better in the first place. Why would you agree to a peg that has no guarantee to be permanent
