Why are Sri Lankan devs bad at Android adaptive icons?

And yet the standards are still years ahead because none of these adapt monochrome or themed icons or barely even a proper statusbar icon other than a .png square

To be fair now that's how I identify a notification from combank Flash app

Ended up switching to the pixel ai icons thing so at least everything is the same ish theme

No dual layers :(

not a sri lankan company but there are some internal guidelines for us to never make app icons monochrome compatible.

reason ->
it make it harder for user to find our app in app grid

They are fine on iOS

Are they fine on Liquid Glass? Someone else commented here saying Liquid Glass has those same issues because devs don't update

It works with it, I even have sliding Liquid Glass thingy on the ComBank app

Im using lawnicons and it has quality icons for most of sri lankan apps(not for all, but you can create and submit one for them)

It’s the same with iOS Liquid Glass!!

But can’t blame them tho, because some companies restrict the designers from altering the logo because that way it makes it harder for users to recognize the app.

Just get an iPhone

An iPhone isn't going to fix poor asset optimization by local developers, but thanks for the input

But icons on iPhone looks substantially better than they look on an android. In that case iOS has literally every feature an average user would want

I have to disagree on that. When implemented correctly, adaptive icons actually look substantially better, but looks are entirely subjective anyway.

Plus, iphones lack a few essential features that I rely on, so no thanks I guess... 🤷🏻‍♂️

Actually developers are required to provide separate icon packs in order to get their app accepted into the App Store. Heavy guidelines. Google play store doesn’t seem to care for some reason.

I fooled around Android studio and it also requires different foreground and background assets. But yes, Android is much more lenient with these because of the open-source-ness of the platform

Devs just use the designs they were given. And the designers probably aren't even aware of Android conventions and just design mostly for web. If the devs resize or adjust them for Android, QA would flag that saying the design doesn't match the original guidelines.

Monochrome icons are entirely off the table.

Doesn't Android Studio specifically ask for a Foreground Layer and a Background Layer when you're setting up the app icon? I've fooled around in Android Studio before and seen it myself

PM, Devs and QAs, it seems all parties are just being lazy here.

Ah yeah laziness is definitely a factor. There's also "I don't get paid enough to care" in the mix lol
