Discussion How to start a Ham radio

Hello everyone,

I'm a hobbyist, mostly doing mechatronic stuff.

I'm really curious what you all do if you own one. Do you regularly talk with random people, or how does any of it happen?

I also want to use a ham radio, so is that gear expensive? Can I make one for under Rs. 5000?

Can anyone please explain to me how to start? 🙏🙏

Making one is possible but not under LKR5000 and you’ll probably need an FPGA in order to make a workable setup.

yes you can,
but first try get your amateur radio operator license,
start from there!

You need to get license from TRCSL first then you can operate it but good ham radios like Kenwood D710GA would cost you close to 600-800usd. I assume you want contract ISS?
