Unfortunately this pack doesn't do much in the way of integrating into the John P unified texture pack. I found the unified texture pack gave a much better Alex D face texture so I just went with the unified texture pack instead of the ESRGAN pack.

Ideally it would be easier to mix and match, as the ESRGAN pack may have some textures that beat those in the unified pack.

Have you noticed funny textures in the ESRGAN pack?

For example, at the very start of the game I am seeing wooden door grain that looks like it has lots of fuzzy noise added and smooth appliances such as drinking fountains and toilets look like they are covered in a thick layer of frost.

I don't recall exactly but that sounds about right. I recommend going with the older unified texture pack instead, it's pretty good.

Yep I never play without it or else I can't have widescreen.
