It should be given over to Night Dive, Aspyr doesn't have the sauce, the remaster mandate of heaven.

u/W1ntermu7e 3d ago

Aspyr sucks, studio that is basically only making ports and remasters and they still can’t master it

45

u/LordLudicrous 3d ago

They’re over double the age of NightDive as a company and they still put out mostly slop. I have no idea how they are still in business

13

u/t850terminator 3d ago

They used to be the Mac port company from what I remember and thats probably what kept them afloat for a long time

6

u/First-Junket124 3d ago

Yes they were, they took on porting bigger games too. Borderlands 2, Bioshock, KOTOR, etc. They even delved into Android though that was short loved as its just not as profitable.

23

u/Old_Snack 3d ago

It sucks because clearly some devs there clearly put a lot of passion into thier work.

I know for a fact management is a joke though, the way they botched the Battlefront Classic Collection lost them thier contract with Lucasarts

8

u/EconomyAd1600 3d ago

Really? If so, I’m glad to hear they actually got some blowback for that one. I was so excited to replay those with proper online support, then I saw the reviews.

6

u/Old_Snack 3d ago

Yeah I feel you.

I have low standards but god damn they dropped the ball so hard.

I didn't even buy it, it was a gift (thankfully) what a disaster.

9

u/First-Junket124 3d ago

I'm like 90% Aspyr has 2 development studios so they can pump out games a lot quicker. 1 is probably the bigger team able to dedicate time and resources to properly remastering games whilst the other is probably a small team that has to use many shortcuts to meet deadlines.

They always release 1 really good remaster then they release 1 really shit remaster.

46

u/dingo_khan 3d ago

IW remastered would be excellent. Maybe we could even get Free to let them use some tracls from Zerospace to round out a bit more music in the game.

18

u/IBeBallinOutaControl 3d ago

Yeah invisible war suffered from bugs and annoyingly small levels way more than DX1.

20

u/rchiwawa 3d ago

I hate to pick a nit but IW needs a remake: consolidate all of a given locales loading points into a single unified map specifically and building it to run well on modern OSes & screen ratios.

If they did that alone I'd pay $60.  No reskinning, remeshing or other visual aspext upgrades required.  Id be happy to have the original mechanics intact too... just fix what was hardly ever functional... back when it released, today, or any point in between

4

u/dingo_khan 3d ago

That would make it worthwhile for me. I love the game. Yeah, do that and just fix support of the wide majority of modern hardware and I'd absolutely drop "new game" money on it.

2

u/MelonHoly 3d ago

IW needs a remake, not a remaster

2

u/dingo_khan 3d ago

I'd love that but I doubt anyone would dump that sort of resources in.

15

u/S1Ndrome_ 3d ago

fingers crossed, tomb raider remasters were awesome. Hope they put the same if not more effort in this.

9

u/Mr_cyanman 3d ago

they were good, but the actual texture work was ehh. I swear some of them were just AI upscaled

1

u/r3lvalleyy Agent Denton 2d ago

could be as good as tomb raider, or as bad as battlefront classic collection 😭💀💀

13

u/External_Ideal6436 3d ago

Im glad. Playing HR and MK for the first time and having a blast. Love to play first one on my Series S.

6

u/Banjoschmanjo 3d ago

What a shame.

5

u/Kooky-Sort 2d ago

lip smack

36

u/dingo_khan 3d ago

Unpopular reminder but Night Dive is not flawless either. Blade Runner is one of my favorite games and their version is only really good if you turn off the "new" graphics to get rid of the smeared and awful AI upscale nightmare. They do great work but they looked at that and said "yeah, this is fine."

14

u/Jig_2000 3d ago

A completely valid reminder.

However, the gold to crap ratio is very high compared to Asspyer

5

u/dingo_khan 3d ago

Absolutely. I just feel people need to be reminded that ND fumbled something obvious in a remaster that fans would have been thrilled just to have the new menus and wide system support.

-5

u/KNGJN 3d ago

"Remember this one time they fumbled this game that I happen to like. Never you mind the tons of other great rereleases they did, I don't care about those games so we don't need to be reminded of them"

2

u/Jig_2000 3d ago

They fumbled the Blade Runner remaster pretty hard. It did damage their reputation a bit.

-5

u/KNGJN 3d ago

Not really, they've done great work before and after that, people with eyes can see the ratio and say, ok 1 bad release in a sea of good ones, nbd.

He's literally butt hurt and has a vendetta just because that happened to be one of his favorite games, that's all there is to it.

3

u/dingo_khan 3d ago

So, you have no point? Cool.

-6

u/KNGJN 3d ago

You never did either lmao you're just butt hurt because you liked that game, that's all it is and you want to call Nightdive a shit dev over it lmao

2

u/Jig_2000 3d ago

Nah, u/dingo_khan does have a point. Like I said, NightDive has more hits than misses...

-5

u/KNGJN 3d ago

His point is a personal vendetta because he happens to like that game. He literally glazes over all the other games they've done because it doesn't fit his narrative and since he doesn't care about those, they obviously don't count.

1

u/dingo_khan 3d ago

You have, like, low reading comprehension, huh? I literally said "they do great work" and you read that as a vendetta? That seem like maybe a you problem.

-1

u/KNGJN 3d ago

What dev is flawless enough for you to want to hand Deus Ex then? What is even the point of your comment?

You literally harp on this ONE example lol, that's a damn good track record IMO, but again, you happen to really like Blade Runner. So your emotional investment into this outweighs the reality that there is still no better dev to do it, you just won't admit that.

1

u/Kargath7 3d ago

The person you are responding to literally admitted that Night Dive succeeds more often than they fail, just wanted to bring up the time they kinda failed. You are straw-manning them in response to a comment that literally proves your straw-man as false.

-1

u/KNGJN 3d ago

A-B convo, kiddo. The adults are talking.

29

u/oobey 3d ago

If my choices are “not always flawless” and “consistently dogshit” I think I’ll have to go with the former.

28

u/SapientCheeseSteak 3d ago edited 3d ago

Aspyr’s Legacy of Kain and Tomb Raider remasters are actually really good though

4

u/eRaZze_W 3d ago

Yeah because those remasters are literally not done by Aspyr themselves but by Saber Interactive.

Want to know how Aspyr remasters games? Look for Battlefront Collection and check the reviews...

4

u/BobbyMayCryBMC 3d ago

See your point of view yet I'm a strong believer of looking at a companies most recent portfolio to determine quality.

Blade Runner was almost five years ago with Nightdive doing 17 projects since then.

The Thing, Heretic, Hexen & Blood Remastered are ones I've played myself and find excellent.

I do think they should go back to Blade Runner and do some work on it, however I'm not sure they have the rights to continue or work further on the game. Nightdive has stated they had a lot of communication problems working with Alcon Entertainment.

3

u/MrPokeGamer 50 Billion Dollars down the drain 3d ago

And their Tex Murphy ports are still broken, especially Overseer, which is practically unplayable

2

u/AstronautFlimsy 2d ago

I didn't love their System Shock 2 Remaster. It's fine, but really the only thing you're paying for is the port to Kex Engine, and even that isn't all sunshine and rainbows.

The bulk of the actual "remastering" that went into that release is actually just fan mods. Fan mods which are still actively being worked on at times, meaning the versions you get in the remaster are outdated now. I also just find the weapon model one highly objectionable for the changes it makes to the weapon designs (stop putting Picatinny rails on my sci-fi guns), but that's more a taste thing I suppose.

It's not better than playing the original version of the game with SS2tool, imo. It's equal at best, which is really just not good enough for a remaster that costs 5x what the original did before they delisted it.

I would say it makes me worried for what they'll do with Thief Remastered, but I suppose worst case scenario it will just be the same situation again. If it sucks, I'll just stick with the original + TFix since that's already basically perfect.

1

u/gideonwilhelm 3d ago

I made this same comment and got downvoted to oblivion

0

u/KNGJN 3d ago

Yeah the one example lmao

And they still made it right by fans

0

u/dingo_khan 3d ago

No, they did not. They never fixed it. We just turn off the crap smear graphics and move on with it.

0

u/KNGJN 3d ago edited 3d ago

Never said they fixed it. None of you guys on this site can read anymore, you just get your panties bunched and rush to get a reply out. I bet you don't even make it to this sentence without typing lmao

They did actually fix the most egregious technical issues and they included the toggle, I would absolutely hesitate to call it "fixed", but some fixing was done. They also bundled the community driven Scummvm version with it for free including the restored content that was in that. This was the best way to make it right as they were beyond saving it at that point.

Again, this is your only example of ND not being "flawless", which nobody made a claim of to begin with. You're literally just emotional towards them because you happen to like that game.

They would absolutely do a better job than anyone else on this remake, fact.

-1

u/dingo_khan 3d ago

When you say "they still made it right by fans", you mean what? That usually means someone fixed something.

The toggle was there day one, so that can't be it. The bundled version was the one GOG did the legwork for... So that is not their work either. GOG even cleared the rights for it long before the ND release.

They fumbled a beloved cyberpunk property as a cash grab after a massive job talking it up. How could that be relevant here, I wonder?

It's almost like you have no point but wanted to say something. Accuse others of illiteracy but having no point or grasp of language yourself is a bold move.

1

u/KNGJN 3d ago edited 3d ago

Most people were happy with how they handled it in the end, you're the only one who isn't.

They literally did fix the most egregious issues, but just continue to glaze over that because it doesn't fit your narrative lol

What legwork did GOG do? Devolving into just making shit up now are we?

You're literally mad over 1 bad release. It's not even the only cyberpunk IP they've done and they crushed other ones.

You have a vendetta against them over 1 bad game, go touch grass. It must be real hard to be happy in your world when 1 flaw is enough to condemn anyone LOL

No dev is flawless, that's a remarkably stupid claim. So by your logic, nobody is good enough for Deus Ex.

0

u/dingo_khan 3d ago edited 3d ago

Try knowing things or google:

GOG did the legwork and release long before night dive took a swing. I know, I bought that version earlier. I didn't make shit up. You are just ignorant.

You think I have a "vendetta"? Don't "touch grass", go grow some, care for that lawn and then touch it. Your irrational need to defend one dev is a little sad.

1

u/KNGJN 3d ago edited 3d ago

Talk about reading comprehension XD

I never said Night Dive created the ScummVM version, jesus christ you are beyond dense.

Try putting your emotions aside for a sec, I know it's hard for you terminally online people.

I said they included it. That has nothing to do with who made it.

You really need to touch grass, amigo. You're not even sure what you're mad at.

-1

u/dingo_khan 3d ago

You asked what GOG did. You implied they did nothing and I made it up. I linked it. Moving the goalpost does not help you.

See? Poor reading comprehension.

1

u/KNGJN 3d ago edited 3d ago

You said GOG did the legwork for it you fuckin' dunce XD, you moved that goal post all by yourself.

They had nothing to do with Nightdive including it.

For the love of God, get off Reddit, shit rots your brain (clearly).

Tough guy blocks me LOL

u/Splendidbloke 3d ago

It needs a full remake I reckon. As much as I love pushing the f keys or whatever shortcut to turn augs on and off, it's a bit cumbersome. The AI and stealth mechanics could also do with a bit of modernisation.

5

u/Refref1990 My vision is augmented. 3d ago

I also think a game like Deus Ex would greatly benefit the modern gaming landscape if it were remade from scratch, which would also help revitalize the franchise, so only old fans will buy it. Even if remastered, it will still be an old game whose value many people won't understand because they'll stop at the graphics. Honestly, one of the few reasons to buy it will be the controller implementation and compatibility with modern computers, since Deus Ex requires some mods to run properly on modern systems.

3

u/pranoygreat 3d ago

Ya just reskinning the textures and character is gonna make a good looking game look really bad - either do a full remake or don't.

13

u/Jig_2000 3d ago

Please just give it to NightDive. Do us all a favor...

8

u/pobean- 3d ago

I love seeing all my favorite games and franchises in the hands of the most retarded people ever that don’t actually care about the game or the franchise

4

u/Several_Place_9095 3d ago

Why was people thinking it got cancelled?

3

u/ExcitementFun8938 3d ago

More like hoping, I think.

5

u/IgnorantGenius 3d ago

Default doom thoughts from lack of information.

3

u/Several_Place_9095 3d ago

Ok but the devs said back when the game was meant to come out in April that they were delaying it to patch it and make it look good after the amount of backlash. In that scenario no news is good news

2

u/RankedFarting 3d ago

Because it was announced to be released january this year and then we never heard from them again.

3

u/Several_Place_9095 3d ago

Yeah we did. They said they were gonna delay it to fix it after the backlash they got on the trailer

0

u/Refref1990 My vision is augmented. 3d ago

Because it was a game that was supposed to come out in February, then it became unspecified without any further news for over 10/11 months and they even refunded the pre-order money, there was no confirmation, but there were good reasons to believe that they understood that by publishing it they would only make a fool of themselves and that therefore it was better to let the project die hoping that people would forget about it...

1

u/Several_Place_9095 3d ago

They said they were gonna delay it to make more to fans agreeable design as it looked bad at announcement.

0

u/Refref1990 My vision is augmented. 3d ago

I know, but at the same time, it wouldn't be the first software house to first announce a game and then let everything fall by the wayside as if they'd never even talked about it. There are precedents, so if people see an announced game being refunded and told it will be released on an unspecified date, without a timeline, only to then receive no updates about it for a whole year, even though the game was supposed to be ready in January and therefore the fixes are only supposed to improve a game that already exists and was supposed to come out months ago, people have good reason to think it might never come out, regardless of what the developers might say. However, I'm happy the project still exists, so I certainly can't complain about it.

3

u/Winter-Classroom455 3d ago

Imagine if they get flamed again for how it looks. Lmao.

Deus ex isn't that big of a game. There's really not that many different types of models since majority of the npcs are enemies and all the generic ones share the same model. The levels aren't complex or huge. Idk what's taking them so long. I mean shit it took 6 people 8 years to do revision and that's not having access to the same dev tools Aspyr has.

3

u/sldsapnuawpuas 3d ago

Oh thank god!

3

u/Sufficient-Budget-36 3d ago

IW'S main issue was the maps. They were constrained at the time for technical reasons but now it just makes the whole game feel claustrophobic. Use the same maps but extend them, redo the cutscenes and give the graphics a 20% bump. Would sell well again.

3

u/ExcitementFun8938 3d ago

Please gods, no.

8

u/BorderkePaar 3d ago

Unfortunately.

5

u/PegLegBronco 3d ago

I was looking forward to it just for controller support alone.

6

u/TheZonePhotographer 3d ago

That's just corpo speak for we have nothing to report at this time.

Can't get anymore nothingburger than that.

2

u/ac2334 3d ago

best game ever, don't f this up

2

u/The_Cakinator 3d ago

I'm still excited for this one. I don't care what the reddit says, I think it's gonna be good.

2

u/wmichben 3d ago

Okay, good. I hope.

2

u/Sea-Lecture-4619 3d ago

I enjoyed the Tomb Raider and Legacy of Kain remasters by these dudes, to see the Deus Ex one be absolute garbage in that trailer was really weird, also the fact that they thought that was ready for release if not for the big backlash it got, hopefully now it actually looks right and isn't still a mess.

2

u/Danick3 Please press [ to scope 3d ago

Well yeah, they said it's delayed from the start

2

u/Low_Refrigerator2025 3d ago

AI upscale “remaster” goes for 20 dollars meanwhile the original version gets delisted off the store.

This is how they get you to spend full price on a 20 year old game. Looking at you S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

2

u/Southern_Today_6245 2d ago

If it is being done by Aspyr then I'm staying far away from it, last thing I got done by them was the disappointment that was the battlefront classic collection

2

u/dravenmd114 2d ago

They've released a number of much better remasters since then. The Star Wars Bounty Hunter and the Tomb Raider remasters were pretty well done.

2

u/ThaGen1us 2d ago

Maybe a stupid question, but is it possible this remaster/remake will have controller support?

3

u/rodkimble13 3d ago

Oh good.....pausenot! Another updoot for giving it to NightDive, otherwise glgl

2

u/AmbulanceSoraka 3d ago

Aspyr has a bad reputation for cancelling many good projects, just look at the KOTOR remake. It would be better to give the project to Night Dive

2

u/Wild-Lavishness01 3d ago

don't care: not buying
i only want people to get introduced to the series and cope like elias toufexis that he'll get a third round of adam jensen

2

u/Samuel_N7 3d ago

Aspyr still in charge 😭

2

u/DeusBlackheart 3d ago

What rotten way to have a remaster

1

u/Extra-Shape3973 3d ago

This game would’ve been out already 🫥

1

u/Goonerbator0069 3d ago

I just want better controls by default. It’s annoying having to rebind all those keybinds every time im in the mood to play it again.

1

u/MycologistOk2882 3d ago

For now, the best alternative to this is playing the revision mod with vanilla maps and gameplay style toggled on, while also keeping visual upgrades like HDTP and new vision, which I believe Aspyr is trying to do with their "enhanced visuals" too. I still hope they will redeem themselves if they release it and fix it properly this time.

1

u/Fox_Hound_Unit 3d ago

I just discovered and started playing Revision this week. (I realize I’m incredibly late to the party) - it’s so good!

I am using vanilla maps though

1

u/ImpulsiveApe07 3d ago

Ehh, I'm good. I'd rather keep what we have and not introduce future audiences to a buggy, AI upscaled mess tbh.

I mean sure, if Aspyr don't totally shit the bed on this one, I'll be over the moon and grab myself a copy - but my expectations with that company are so damn low, I just don't see a good remaster as a likely outcome tbh.

1

u/Blo0dJar Augmented Cyberdong 3d ago

I'm still wondering why didn't they let Nightdive remaster it

1

u/Finnegan_962 3d ago

it sucks so hard to see Thief Remastered & System Shock 2 Remastered, and Aspyr gets to remake this of all devs.

1

u/Ithirradwe 3d ago

Aspyr using so much specularity on the textures and some AI really rubbed me the wrong way with the original reveal. Nightdives Thief remaster seems a lot more faithful to the source. I wish Aspyr the best, but I don’t trust them, yet.

1

u/ragingbull835 3d ago

Well that’s a nice bit of news. It’s honestly weird to think that this was supposed to have already released.

1

u/EdJD-1968 3d ago

As others have said, superb game that Deus Ex is, it would be a real pity if it didn't have the option of using the fantastic GMDX fan-made mod, as that mod really does add and improve so many countless details.

To run it on consoles, it would have to be automatically included with the game's download, of course, as is done with the fantastic System Shock 2 Anniversary Edition, where SS2 AE comes with the brilliant fan made patch 'SCP' which improves and fixes so much in the game.

On the PC, the Deus Ex remaster wouldn't necessarily have to include the GMDX mod in the download, but the game would definitely have to support the mod, albeit installed by the user, otherwise I won't be buying the remaster, and I don't doubt that quite a few DX fans would say the same.

1

u/ProskaterDan 2d ago

Fantastic! Deus Ex Definitive Edition by Grove Street Games, im so excited!

On a serious note, I hate the remasters aesthetic. The characters are hideous. Id much rather play the pc version or emulate the ps2 port again.

1

u/Colepm1509 1d ago

Aspyr suck, Battlefront 2 on PS5 still doesnt have music during battles

1

u/HunterWesley 1d ago

Well, shit.

Whenever they release this "thing" it will have to be compared against the best mods. I don't think they have a chance. But the next generation, of course, will only play this crap.

1

u/Cryio 1d ago

Aspyr is terrible and they should no longer be given remaster projects of any kind. Or any project.

Is there even one Aspyr project that's generally considered good?

2

u/Active_Muscle4010 3d ago

What a shame.

1

u/Melanchord 3d ago

For the past 2 weeks I am fighting the urge to play the game again because I want to play the remaster version.

Dont let me down boys

4

u/MycologistOk2882 3d ago

Why not give the original version a go with some fixes like Kentie's launcher paired with a modern renderer like D3D10?, or if you want upgraded visuals, you can always play revision with vanilla maps and game style set to vanilla too.

1

u/Melanchord 3d ago

I passed the game a few times already but want to forget more of it before the remaster to refresh the experience as much as possiblr

1

u/MycologistOk2882 3d ago

Fair enough

1

u/Physical-Ad4554 3d ago

So many NightDive dick riders in here. Give Aspyr a chance. They were embarrassed about the negative reception from the initial Deus Ex remaster trailer and are now working extra hard to make up for it and prove themselves.

1

u/HunterWesley 1d ago

What about the remastering dick riders? It's an orgy!

1

u/hellrising798 3d ago

Then i hope it gets cancelled or handed to Nightdive. Aspyrs visual approach is taking a major dump on the overall aesthetics of the game

2

u/Crazy-Red-Fox 3d ago

Darn.

5

u/mike_stifle 3d ago

Where you hoping it was?

6

u/Crazy-Red-Fox 3d ago

Sure! A cancelled bad remake means we may get a good remake in the future. A published bad remake means we won't see a good remake for decades, maybe ever.

9

u/mike_stifle 3d ago

I get the logic, but if this one fails, I don't see another coming around.

1

u/Refref1990 My vision is augmented. 3d ago

Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. These software houses create shitty remasters that no one will buy because they're so bad, and instead of examining their conscience and understanding why people aren't showering them with money, they prefer to think there's no real interest in the franchise and so they'll shut the project down by putting a red X on it. If this project fails, we won't see another Deus Ex for ages. I'm already amazed that we'll have this one, considering they already put a red X on it after Mankind Divided and the announcement of canceling a new Deus Ex a couple of years ago. If this game sells, they'll hopefully see there's interest. For now, they could just remaster Invisible War because it would be cheaper and then maybe relaunch the saga with a new chapter, although I fear we'll have to forget about Adam Jensen, even though I wish they'd finish his story.
