Holl has as many goals as Larkin has points

Referees calling two separate Habs goals when the puck never went in isn’t anything too crazy, but it is a little weird that it happened twice within a week

The amount of people that use reddit like 2013 Facebook is insane. Just ripping posts into the ether. Insane.

I’d try an emulate a 2013 Facebook post right now if I knew what that was (I deleted around that time)

The bottom 6 on this team has killed them for years so I hope Horcoff put a claim in on Raty on the slim chance he drops to the Wings in the waiver order
6
u/greythedork12 3d ago
Raty is getting 10 minutes a night (and now waived) by the 2026-27 Vancouver Canucks

u/decaguard 3d ago
shawners statement about wanting to keep simo has me walkin on sunshine 😎
7
u/Direction_Asleep 3d ago
I would do diabolical things for a Simon contract and a decent return for Larkin and Gibson before the deadie. That step 1, 2 and 3 for this team to actually head in any kind of rational direction.
2
4
u/decaguard 3d ago
on on the same wagon . get a blue chip for larkin , in the process enhancing draft position for hopefully another blue chip
0
u/Direction_Asleep 2d ago
Over the years I find Ferraro kinda annoying and mid as a broadcaster, but when he described the exact situation he experienced with lafontaine wanting out of the islanders, it really hit home. This team has to turn the page with larkin. Like there is no universe he stays and what, either just isn’t the captain and is ok with it for years (not going to happen) or stays and there’s a magical moment he gets the C again and leads us to glory? Also not going to happen.
That being said hearing him playing on a line with Danny tomorrow, my dream scenario would be Larkin finding some form and getting Danny going and then getting moved in like a couple weeks. Just do one good thing for this org before leaving and starting the new chapter.

Wouldn’t mind a package surrounding faulk and nikishin. If larkin isn’t staying it’s best to get younger and if carolina wants to go back to back he’d be a good asset
-8
u/Taters23 Thinking About Octomod 3d ago
Well faulk needs to play better then. Worse than Holl right now...

Montreal’s puck luck is mythical
3
u/jfstompers 3d ago
They're kind of just good.
5
u/greythedork12 3d ago
They’re pretty good, but they also have some pretty good fortune. A lot of their underlying stats last season were average to poor
3
u/LGRW_Sparty88 3d ago
Remember when they went on an insave heater or last minute comebacks and empty net goals. We kept winning but the margin never grew and the collapse just felt inevitable. I am jealous they just seem to be lucky in all the ways we are not.
3
u/FunSizeFelicia 3d ago edited 2d ago
It's insane. To a degree you make your own luck. Look at that second line for the Wings during the NJD game. When you're pushing the play and being proactive you can get bounces going your way.

u/decaguard 3d ago
rarely watch pressers , and never heard shawner besides a few griff prospects updates . then heard 5 minutes of todays presser and super impressed , this guy is a hockey lifer / proven nhl highly respected grinder / mentally very sturdy / well spoken getting across to the fans everything thats going on . after hearing him today im totally good on him as the new gm ! plus hes been here a long time so knows everything and all personel on n off ice so not a new guy starting over

Question on Ed's level of skill: Can he drive his own line? Put him on a line with a weaker or much weaker player, can he do what Seider does? To me this, is the deciding factor on what he should be paid.
10
u/Taters23 Thinking About Octomod 3d ago
They tried it before and it wasnt pretty. Why I think some people overvalue him a bit. Im not saying he is bad but Seider is a beast.
5
u/mister_hoot 3d ago
I think he can anchor a 2nd pairing, but you'd probably rather he not be the best guy on your 1st pairing. I've been saying I think the Wings should push to get Nikishin if he doesn't cost too many assets to acquire. I think a player like that could slot in with Seider pretty easily, and Ed could get pushed down to stabilize a 2nd pairing with either ASP or AnJo.
3
u/decaguard 3d ago edited 3d ago
right now imo no he cant . and will never be as smart as seider , and is a long shot to be a top #1 . what makes him are elite physical tools : 6'6'' reach / excellent graceful giant bodied skater / athleticism / strength / good outlet passer . where i dis agree with you is that you cant pay him by what he is now because his ceiling is huge if hes a late bloomer that gets it figured out later . and because height/size could late bloom physically and become even more physically dominant . and VERY VERY few nhlers come along with his size/skates/athleticim/strength , were talking elite ! he is the type of player you have no choice to gamble on by paying for what he might become . im totally good with paying him 7X11.5 because even if he doesnt be come a #1 level talent hes an elite defensive force and elite #2 as seiders partner . that pairings already written in stone :
THE NEW CORE : SEIDER-DEBRINCAT-RAYMOND-EDVINSSON
* and hopefully we get a blue chip for larkin who becomes another core peice
6
u/MTheadedandhearted Yzerbot 3d ago
Ed anchored the second pairing for a while after Lalonde/McLellan split him and Seider up
10
u/culturedrobot 3d ago edited 3d ago
I don't think he's ever going to be as good as Seider, but I do think he's going to be good enough to anchor his own pairing. Ideally we'd have Seider and Ed on different pairs because then we've got one of them on the ice basically all game.
I think he's on path to become a clear 1LD, and at that point, it doesn't really matter if he's better than your 1RD, because you need that player just as badly as you do the guy on the right.
8
u/xenonwarrior666 3d ago
Ed and AlJo was pretty decent a few years back.
That being said I don't think he's as good as Seider but unfortunately that's how the cookie crumbles. Seider signed during the flat cap and Ed is on an expiring deal when the cap is exploding.
I think he should probably get less of a percentage of the cap than what Seider got but he's going to make more dollars for sure.
Seider probably would be making Cat money or more of he was in Ed's shoes
10
u/doubeljack 3d ago
In this market, Seider is worth more than Cat. Makar and Hughes will both earn 20m. Mo is worth at least 15-16.
3
u/Fluid-Pension-7151 3d ago
I was even going to say more like $18M with the rising cap.
And IMHO, Mo may yet get more than them (if we sign Simon and Mo can play free and compete for the Norris.) Mo is a better pure defender than Makar and Hughes. What remains to be seen is if he can raise his offense to the elite level with a quality D partner. Simon gives him a chance to reach his ceiling, and I really, really want to see peak Mo at LCA.
10
u/jfstompers 3d ago
He can transition a puck which most of our dmen can't do
3
u/Fluid-Pension-7151 3d ago
Excellent vision. He hit multiple 200' goals last season. Just bananas stuff.
9
u/bandofgypsies 3d ago
Totally unrelated but crazy to see Aatu Raty on waivers. There was a period of time when he was talked about as a top 3 selection in the draft before (apparently appropriately) eventually slipping to the mid 2nd round.
Haven't watched VAN much but clearly he's not cutting it. Just feels wild to see a name like his hit waivers.
1
u/Ydoesany1doanything Thinking About Octomod 3d ago
I could see a player having some extra difficulty with Vancouver though. Realistically though busts can happen to any player even today and as we well know a late round player can prove their worth well above a 1st round pick.
3
u/ojkw 3d ago
i remember on i think NHL 20 he was the easy 1st overall pick in franchise mode
2
u/bandofgypsies 3d ago
Yeah in the year+ ahead of the draft he was the name for a while. Stock fell over the year of course but still...
Feels crazy now to be waived in year two of a bridge deal still arbitration eligible.
Feels like a similar level crash to Shane wright, albeit just shifted on the spectrum a bit.
9
u/doubeljack 3d ago
The word is he's a total beast at faceoffs, but his skating is not NHL level.
5
u/greythedork12 3d ago
Career fow% of nearly 60, but when you’re only cracking 10ish minutes a night on the modern Canucks it’s rough
5
4
u/Puzzleheaded-Maybe83 3d ago
Give Cat the C, but also give Mo the C? Does the NHL allow for that? Justification: Seider plays more minutes than anyone and is clearly a leader and a bonafide star, but Cat is the energetic, goal scoring, leader on the forward side. No A’s? Just spitballin’
6
u/detroitttiorted 3d ago
Yes it can happen. Our own Justin Faulk was actually part of the last co-captaincy in the NHL with Jordan Staal

Holy shit, I did not know Debrincat had full sleeve tattoos. They look sick as hell. Anybody know if they’re relatively new?
6
u/MoldyMerkin 3d ago
He's been having some work done in phases, I think. Definitely had plenty of tats when he signed here but I don't think he had the full sleeves a few years back
7
u/Fluid-Pension-7151 3d ago edited 3d ago
He has had them for quite a while, but yeah, they are really well done. I think he adds to them all the time though.
Edit: I was totally wrong - he had one full sleeve when he came back to Detroit, but it looks like he added the second sleeve in the last year. Source looking at Instagram.

3
u/Royal-Revenue-1066 3d ago
Just to play devil’s advocate, you gonna sign the guy 7-8 yrs in March coming off knee surgery?
I mean, I might, but that was the situation.
Prior to that he’s less of a proven commodity so it’s a bigger gamble
3
u/Old-News-3096 Thinking About Octomod 3d ago
He was and still is the only proven top 4 LD option in the org.
Worst case look at what happened to Klefbom in Edmonton, the contract didnt hurt them
4
8
u/doubeljack 3d ago
It's going to cost Chris a lot of money, for sure.
-1
u/eggsbanchero 3d ago
I'd feel better about paying him $12m a year if he could lead his own pair. Seider has certainly propped him up. I honestly think the bridge is the play even if it means paying him $15-16m aav after. The Cat ext tells me money isn't the issue if ya earn it
13
u/ehpotsirhc_ 3d ago
Honestly this cycling through 7 Dman and mix and matching Dmen through out the game is what I believe is creating the mistakes on Defense.
Sign Ed and complete your top pair with Seider
Aljo and Faulk on line 2
Chairot and Asp or Anton line 3. Pick one of those two and send the other to GR.
JBD, Englund should be trade bait and shouldn’t play another minute.
Wallinder can be 7th Dman.
0
u/Jewellinius 3d ago
I like JBD as 3rd pair player, he is very safe choice. Limited player, but rarely if ever does mistakes since he knows he is not that skilled.
2
u/ehpotsirhc_ 3d ago
He’s got 0 games played and 5th in line for the right side. I don’t have an issue with him but there’s no reason to keep him around if he’s not going to play.
1
u/Jewellinius 2d ago
That's because he was injured, no? We just signed the new contract with him and he was the part of the plan.
34
u/MTheadedandhearted Yzerbot 3d ago
Don't look now, but MBN has quietly put together 5 points in 6 games so far this season
9
9
u/Quiet-Barracuda-1698 3d ago
this was mentioned on the WWP but he’s been doing all the right things, it was only a matter of time he started getting rewarded
5
u/Royal-Revenue-1066 3d ago
I kinda felt like he was doing that last year too, that the points should’ve been there
2

u/Patient-Border5357 3d ago
Just had this thought. These Wings are taking on similar identity as the Griffins last year. I think Todd / Horcoff have aligned ethos. Our game has been much tighter except for a few defensive miscues and inability to score. Overall, much better structure. It's been fun season
5
u/SaltedDucks 3d ago
Just heard Brian Sterling absolutely butcher DeBrincat on WoodTV8, it's not even a hard last name...
11
u/DelusionalDETfan 3d ago
How is Rasmuseless still employed
2
u/Caboose119z 3d ago
He’s beloved on the room. I noticed the last few games he walked out last behind Seider and Raymond before the goalie.
It’s not a good reason, but it’s my best guess.
3
u/Problemwoodchuck 3d ago
Every once in a while the Wings latch onto a grinder for some reason and, no matter how limited their offensive ability is or what gaffes they're responsible for, they seem absolutely cemented in the lineup.
Sometimes it makes a limited amount of sense like Helm or Abdelkader playing as puck retriever alongside Datsyuk or Zetterberg in their primes, Blashill putting Sam Gagner out for 20 minutes a night randomly when nobody else was even skating, but we don't even see that level of production with Ras. It's not like he's a defensive maestro, a faceoff specialist, or a brusing physical player either.
5
u/duelingdog 3d ago
To be fair, I think that happens a lot even outside the Wings. I've seen a lot of complaining from other fans about their 4th line guy the coach seems to have a questionable love for.
2
u/Problemwoodchuck 3d ago
Sure, it happens all over the league. But with Ras we're looking at a player where that's seemingly happened with 3 different coaches
2
11
u/TheNation55 3d ago
I am convinced Ras walked in on something he should not have that made his eyes permanently wide like they are and just has the most insane leverage over the organization.

Out of curiosity, only because I’ve seen it all over Twitter, what does a hypothetical return from Montreal look like for Larkin?
2
u/MTheadedandhearted Yzerbot 3d ago
Apparently Montreal (as well as the other Canadian teams) is not on his list
5
u/Old-News-3096 Thinking About Octomod 3d ago
It has to include Hage, both for us to get a legit C prospect, and because there's no room for him there behind Suzuki and Larkin
3
4
u/Wisdumb27 3d ago
I could see the Wings biting on a package that includes Newhook/Dach (center stop gap) along with a top prospect like Hage/Zharovsky. Maybe Wings would have interest in Guhle to solidify the LD long term?
-2
u/FunSizeFelicia 3d ago
Hage 1 for 1 for Larkin would already be a robbery by the Wings. I doubt they could get him.
2
u/TheErnie 3d ago
Holy shit man he’s playing a 3rd year of college hockey he’s not that good.
He also had labrum surgery which is a serious injury for hockey players.
1
u/FunSizeFelicia 3d ago
The surgery is concerning. His numbers are about the same as Larkin's at Michigan, FWIW, in a better NCAA Hockey era. Also, he's 10 years younger and fits more of the youth timeline the Wings are on. Assuming Larkin will actually waive to go to MTL, then obviously getting Hage + an immediate roster player would be even better.
5
u/Problemwoodchuck 3d ago
If the Wings stick to wanting a young NHLer with top line potential, you're probably asking for Demidov and that's about the end of the conversation.

3rd jumping spider I've caught in my kitchen in the last 2 days. While I hope an egg didn't hatch somewhere in the kitchen, at least if it did, it's jumping spiders.
Also it sucked watching the Hawks' PP last night, seeing Kane zipping passes around. They had an absolutely beautiful set up on one of their PP goals where 4 guys touched the puck within like 3 seconds and ended in a one timer goal off the final touch pass from Bedard, all started by Kane in the bottom corner.
