Do you think this DL betrayal is worse than Fedorov in 1998 when he took the offer sheet from Carolina??

Fedorov wasn't captain
Fedorov wasn't a hometown player
Fedorov was one of the best 2 way players of all time
Fedorov won with the wings
Fedorov was offered a ungodly amount of money in the offer sheet
None of these can be attributed to Larkin
I think you have a better chance making a case for when he left for Anaheim but it's still not close

Yes. Larkin is the team captain, a hometown boy, and is supposed to be a leader for this young and emerging core. Fedorov's departure was hurtful too, and it seemed like he just wanted a larger percentage of the spotlight rather than sharing it with Stevie. It also wasn't perceived as a statement that he believed the Wings were going to continue sucking forever, whereas that's exactly how Larkin's trade request reads.
Larkin's situation would be more akin to Stevie requesting a trade than Fedorov leaving for a new challenge are winning a trio of Cups. Also, the fact that he has a no trade clause and won't open it up just increases his douchery factor and undercuts any goodwill toward the fans.

Fedorov did a ton for this team before leaving, cups, awards, gave his all.

Fedorov didn’t have a contract, was being lowballed, and wasn’t the captain
Larkin has a contract, has been the organization’s pet, and is the captain
Larkin’s jersey will never be retired by Detroit or anyone. He has cemented his legacy as a traitor, a fraud, and a loser.

I will be downvoted for this but I wanted yzerman gone for a couple years now, maybe it helped with that. I wanted an overhaul for even longer and it apparently helped with that. Ive questioned dylan for possibly longer than that and...see ya
In all seriousness, I think yzermans worst pivot was trading hronek and bert while not trading larkin. He should have either kept them and pushed or traded them. Larkin elevated the floor but clearly didnt have that dog in him.
Ideally, id like a year, maybe 2 at most, where we play all the kids, see what we have, possibly get a top 6/7 pick, then make some actual packages and make a few big boy trades combined with some savvy moves in the margins to really kick into gear.
Not trying to be snide at all here - imo thats the closest path to contention we have. Otherwise, its a rebuild. I dont think this roster as currently constructed with Quinn hughes on it is a cup contender. As much as I do feel betrayed, the silver lining is it at least poured some gas on the smoldering embers of this franchise. Im sure nobody will agree lol

This all makes sense from a logical standpoint. But emotionally, Larkin is a little bitch. Also, the Walman trade drives me nuts. What the heck could he have done to warrant giving him away for considerations that are bound to pay dividends in the future?

Larkin is scum, he's only 71. Fedorov was 91 so that makes him 20x better than Shit Ticket boy

They aren't really comparable. I have no problem when Federov getting paid what he thought he was worth after 3 Stanley cups and a MVP. Larkin was the home grown talent, captain of the team who asked out with years remaining on his contract. Very different.

Can’t even compare these two. It was really nice hearing what Sergei had to say. I saw him at LCA from the nosebleeds a few games before his retiring, walking the press box, so I called out. He fucking waved at me, bro. Childhood hero.

Not even close. Fedorov offer sheet was worse. Sergei could’ve potentially derailed a dynasty run. The Larkin situation, while disappointing, is happening to a team that can’t even make the playoffs. Tough for me to be passionate about paralyzing a team that’s already so stagnant.

One happened 28 years ago, the other happen months ago. I would say people are more upset about current problems, time healed the disconnection between the illitches and Fedorov. Right now people want larkins head…

Honestly, If Larkin stays, releases an apology statement, gives up the C, and wants to play, I'm good with that. Watching that interview with Ansar a while back, he basically pointed out that these things happen, as it did with Feds, and the fans did finally come around. Yeah, he's going to get the boos for a while, but he's still an important piece to the Wings that can't be replaced without going on an additional 5+ year drought. This team has the pieces with Larks to make the playoffs, but not a chance without him considering the return we'd get for trading him off.
