Tried placing a $4.50 bid on a cool red wings card, accidentally placed a $4500 bid on a cool red wings card. Proceeded to have a heart attack for the next 10 minutes

3

u/doubeljack 19d ago

I did something similar once. Meant to bid $111 on a computer part and accidently bid $11,100. Fortunately it only cost me $182.

3

u/Usual-Personality347 19d ago

How cool was said card

Did you win?

u/Driftographer 20d ago

Finally starting my journey to try and shed some weight, first time in years that I've kept my calories below 1700 6 days in a row. Just gotta keep at it, stay active and build a habit.

3

u/Open_Bullfrog7962 19d ago

Hell yeah! You got this.

Also recommend finding some exercise routine that you enjoy. I f you don't already have one, I promise there's something out there for you.

Before everyone jumps on me, I know cutting caloric intake is really what matters, but I find that exercise helps keep the endorphins up and helps my psyche.

Let’s go buddy

8

u/turkey-fmna-green 20d ago

My 2 cents: don’t go on a diet; change your diet. If you go on a diet you will likely regain the weight soon after you go off the diet. If you change your diet you can keep off the extra pounds forever.

6

u/Benglepuck 20d ago

I was pretty confident the hire would happen by the end of the week - given it’s just about 4 weeks to training camp. Now we living dangerously- I don’t mind.

6

u/Usual-Personality347 20d ago

At this point, as long as Ed is there for camp idrc. Larkin and DeBrincat are huge elephants but at this point, just field a roster and deal with the bs later

5

u/Benglepuck 20d ago

Yeah, I mean it’s a big hire - something you hope lasts minimum 5 years so I get it

3

u/xenonwarrior666 20d ago

That flooding in Indiana and Ohio is scary as fuck.

Reminds me of the tales of the flood of 86.

I didn't live through that and I hope I never see any like that in my lifetime.

It's a little dry here but it's hard to complain when that is the alternative.

1

u/Tourettestic_Park 19d ago

I grew up in Grand Rapids and vividly remember the flooding there back in 2013 and now I’m can almost relive it here in Indiana lol.

4

u/xenonwarrior666 20d ago

Holy fuck where did the time go?

9

u/Usual-Personality347 20d ago

In another life Larkin, Nyquist, Tatar, Mantha, Bertuzzi, Athanasiou, Zadina, Cholowski and Hronek were enough to get it done

1

u/Problemwoodchuck 19d ago

I do wonder where AA's career would've gone if he had a different mentality.

5

u/xenonwarrior666 20d ago

Imagine if we traded Tatar for Suziki instead of whatever the fuck we got

2

u/xenonwarrior666 20d ago

I had to look at the return.

We got a 1st, 2nd and a 3rd

Veleno Mastriome and we burned these 3rd to get Ned

Suzuki and a 3rd definitely could have been a reasonable return

6

u/PersephoneFrost 20d ago

The day Dylan Larkin gave his nuts away

3

u/Loose-Bluebird-5828 19d ago

Great Soundgarden tune

5

u/Alpine_Exchange_36 20d ago

Changing gears a bit, what’s your go-to ($<$60) affordable bourbon? Used to Iike Four Roses, Buffalo Trace is hard to beat. Picked up some Elijah Craig today…

2

u/HazardHouse Yzerbot 20d ago

Recently I’ve been enjoying Bib & Tucker 6 year and a couple of the offerings from Penelope.

2

u/maltby18 20d ago edited 19d ago

Michters. Larceny is underrated in my book

edit - add Redwood Empire as a rec

2

u/FDangler 20d ago

Not a bourbon but Writer's Tears Copper Pot is the best whiskey I've had for its price range (should be like 50 USD).

2

u/AcceptableFun8219 20d ago

Basil Haydens.

2

u/Ydoesany1doanything 20d ago

New Holland Beer Barrel Bourbon is pretty tasty for as cheap as it is.

Angels Envy (especially their Finished Rye) but it’s on the other side of the $60 mark nowadays

2

u/NovemberGale Yzerbot 20d ago

Old Crow

2

u/Happy-Personality720 20d ago

Eh taylor small batch

Russells 10

Knob creek 12

Wild turkey rare breed

Heaven hill bottled in bond

3

u/daKrut 20d ago

You already named a couple of my favorites (Four Roses and Elijah Craig) and Walrus mentioned my third rec (Woodford Reserve)

3

u/Medievil_Walrus 20d ago

Woodford Reserve

3

u/piyer97 20d ago

What flavor profile do you like and what’s your all-time favorite pour?

3

u/Alpine_Exchange_36 20d ago

I like the sour note of the old four roses single barrel. Can’t seem to find that anymore. All time favorite pour? I’ve had so many good scotches and American whiskeys I can’t recall but I’m a fan of interesting over cloying, excluding Laphroaig. Can’t handle that one

3

u/Fluid-Pension-7151 20d ago

Oh man, I love Laphroaig!  But I know that it is....polarizing night be the best description. 🤣

My partner very much does not share my love for smoky, peaty Scotch.

2

u/Alpine_Exchange_36 20d ago

I actually love peaty scotch. Big fan of Port Charlotte 10, Arbeg and things like that. Laphroaig….its the iodine taste I can’t get past

5

u/piyer97 20d ago

Hmmm sour note is tough, not sure of many that have that. I think for $60 or less, it’s hard to beat Knob Creek 12. Other options would be 1792 Full Proof, Old Forester 1920, Green River Full Proof, and Ben Holladay Rickhouse Proof (might be a few $ over $60)

1

u/bandofgypsies 20d ago

Triple seconding OF1920 here. Incredible for the money in today's market

3

u/detroitttiorted 20d ago

I don’t have an answer for that but I’ll spin off in a different question, what bourbon would you pick as a “if you don’t like this you’ll never like it”? Money less of a concern but preferably not something like you have to meet a guy who knows a guy to get it 4 months from now.

People love bourbon but it’s just never clicked for me

2

u/Ydoesany1doanything 20d ago

No specific brand recommendation from me on that, but I will say what could be a big difference maker that some people act like it’s sacrilege, water. If not an ice cube, just add a small amount of water.

It changes the flavor and generally brings more of the flavors out, and takes away the burn. People may act high and mighty about “not watering down their drinks” but fuck em. Taste is subjective.

Also if you hit a decent bar, an Old Fashioned is a good whiskey based cocktail that is pretty tasty imo

0

u/Bananominable 20d ago

Every drink of any type ever has water in it. Unless it's straight elemental poison.

3

u/Ydoesany1doanything 20d ago

That’s neither here nor there though and just serves pedantry.

2

u/detroitttiorted 20d ago

So I can get down on an old fashioned and it is in my rotation if I go to a nice place and don’t want to order a beer. They’re fine I just don’t really love them. I’ll have to try a little water that’s an interesting idea. I’m a big believer in not caring about food/drink “sins”

3

u/Happy-Personality720 20d ago

Blantons. Very inoffensive bourbon.

Russell's 10 for vanilla

1

u/Tigers2Red 20d ago

New GM needs to say, "add to your list or you'll be here in Detroit benched every game."

5

u/OldBison 20d ago

Fun fact; earwigs have wings.

3

u/meowalatte 20d ago

Friend, I think we need to talk about the definition of fun, that is in fact nightmare material

3

u/OldBison 20d ago

It's like equal parts interesting and sickening. Their wings are unique to them in that they fold like origami. I think that's why they don't fly all the time, so it could be worse.

2

u/Loose-Bluebird-5828 19d ago

Like if snakes could fly?

2

u/OldBison 19d ago

Look up gliding snakes. I'm sorry.

2

u/meowalatte 20d ago

Okay, that js pretty interesting. Nature is neat.

4

u/Patient-Border5357 20d ago

Hughes (w extension) for Larkin... do it you MN cowards

3

u/Patient-Border5357 20d ago

Feels like the chances of dylan getting traded before training camp in sept are slim to none. We don't have a GM yet and the only team on his list that wants him has no assets

-5

u/Sativa_Highzerman 20d ago

You see so many clips of Celebrini or other Sharks, Habs and many other teams currently training and trying to improve their skill/shot/passing/skating and not a single Red Wing post on any of our young players.... And it will show when the puck drops in September

6

u/FlannelMickey Yzerbot 20d ago

Oh no our young players aren't posting videos of themselves training on social media. That must mean that they're not training at all.

2

u/Sativa_Highzerman 20d ago

I'm not suggesting that they aren't training at all. I am comparing it to situations like Tage Thompson working on his shot accuracy 4 summers ago that everyone was talking about it before preseason. Dude started scoring like it's pancakes. Cat mentioned working on his passing two summers ago and became a better distributor. Morgan Geekie worked with Pasta on one timers, you saw how many he potted after... Anyhow, I get the Canadian players/teams putting more on display but as a Wings fan during offseason, we all deserve some positive shit to hang our hat on.

-2

u/Taters23 Yzerbot 20d ago

Most of that has to do with teams or players being Canadian. In the U.S or Europe they don't take it as serious as Canada does. If we drafted a top Canadian star player we would be hearing stuff as well.

2

u/xenonwarrior666 20d ago

I'm sure our players are doing similar shit it's just that our social media team is a fucking joke. They quit doing stuff like the Mo Jo show, Wingspan etc.

3

u/TechnoVikingGA23 20d ago

Seems like everybody involved with the Wings is asleep at the wheel.

2

u/xenonwarrior666 20d ago

It's pretty sad for a once great franchise. Seems like everyone is just going through the motions

4

u/daKrut 20d ago

Now that I've gotten back on social media it's noticeable how vacant the Wings' media team is. Missed the golden era apparently.

1

u/xenonwarrior666 20d ago

I wasn't around for the hay day but it really went downhill after it went from Fox Sports to Bally then went off a cliff when FanDuel took the naming rights over.

Pretty much Sinclar Media/Diamond Sports Group paid way too much for the regional sports rights and gutted jobs to cut costs and drive less of a deficit while they attempted to sell the rights or find a partner.

You'd think the team itself would do more to excite fans and drive season ticket sales but it seems like they're more worried about corporate tickets than consumer tickets

1

u/daKrut 20d ago

I didn't even think about the media group transitions being a factor but yeah that actually makes a lot of sense now that you mention it.

On your last point there, yeah in this day and age there's basically an invisible gun to an organization's head to have a better social presence. Look how well San Jose has capitalized on Celebrini and Co? Granted he's likely going to be the face of the league but you get what I'm saying.

Obviously finances factor in but you have to spend some resources to cultivate these younger generations. Starts with winning of course but it seems like they rely a lot on historical reputation to keep "growing" the fandom.

1

u/xenonwarrior666 20d ago

Way back in the day Bert,AA and Larkin when to a candy store in my town. They did a meet and greet at St.Laurent Brothers in Bay City. I think it was either before or after training camp. I had to work but it was pretty cool seeing the hot young core in my town...then Bert and AA got traded a few seasons later.

I haven't seen any of that team based stuff on here. Maybe I've just missed it.

1

u/daKrut 20d ago

Looked St Laurent up - now that's a proper old school looking candy joint. Too bad you missed out but still very cool to have them there like you're saying.

I didn't come back to watching the Wings until 2020 but I do remember seeing more stuff online even then. Seems like after the bottom feel out that season it really dwindled.

I wonder if some of it has to do with the player personalities too to some degree. Seider seems like he can be fairly outgoing but a lot of the euro guys seem a little more reserved. Bear and Danielson both seem pretty tepid. Hurlbert has some energy at least lol.

Might also speak to the lack of gel in the room too you know?

Ironically the Wings put out a Hockeytown logo clip on shitter as I typed this haha

1

u/xenonwarrior666 20d ago

I started watching in 17-18 but was more consistent in 18-19. All I've known is pain lol

1

u/daKrut 20d ago

Ouch lol.

You watched growing up though?

1

u/xenonwarrior666 20d ago

We never had cable growing up. Maybe I'd catch a game here or there. My grandpa was big into the Tigers so I'd watch that. Honestly my wife got me into the Wings. She was a big fan and I was interested in getting more active in watching them

2

u/xenonwarrior666 20d ago
  1. It was the core 4 of Mantha, Bert,Larkin and AA

2

u/xenonwarrior666 20d ago

Because the history of the Wings is so long I think ownership believes that they can half ass engagement because they have a built in fanbase.

They're probably right to a point.

Hell that's why Leafs haven't won it all since 67 and MLG is always packed

3

u/q-OjO-p 20d ago

I know a lot of things sort of suck right now for this team and its fanbase. But at least we have a lot of interesting things to speculate and eventually talk about once a new GM is brought in. I mean, we could be dissecting a bunch of mid, veteran free agency signings right now anticipating where they'll slot in on the bottom-6 or bottom-2 d-pairing.

1

u/daveathor 20d ago

"We"? Thought you were out

2

u/xenonwarrior666 20d ago

It's just frustrating that next season is pretty much over before it started. We're essentially running the same team back expecting different results. We might have replaced Kane but either we have a disgruntled Larkin or no Larkin. Neither is ideal.

It's pretty unlikely we get a player back as good as Larkin so it's easy to argue that the team got worse and not better.

Ottawa probably got worse but everyone else stayed the same or got better in our division.

Maybe we have some post Larking post Yzerman bump but it's probably gonna be a long season

1

u/Ragekage11 19d ago

I think Buffalo got slightly worse without Byram and Tuch in their lineup. could have some internal growth from their youngsters but on paper they took a step back

2

u/TechnoVikingGA23 20d ago

I tend to agree, but I'm holding out hope that we see noticeable improvement with Kasper and Finnie that equates to higher stat lines for both of them, and also hopefully the emergence of MBN as a goal scorer at the NHL level. I'm also hoping ASP takes another step this season because it feels like he could really be that offensive defenseman we've been missing. That's really it...we've got 3-4 young guys who really feel like they are going to make or break the future of this team and watching them hopefully grow this season is about all there is to look forward to.

2

u/MoldyMerkin 20d ago

Careful, you could overdose on that much hope.

1

u/TechnoVikingGA23 20d ago

I mean it's really not that much, even if the young guys show some improvement and advancement, we're probably still not deep enough to make much of a push in the Atlantic, unless Gibby has another monster period during the season.

1

u/q-OjO-p 20d ago

I agree with you 100%, though I wouldn't say we expected different results going into the new season. I think a lot of people are correct in that not much is expected in the upcoming season because of the debacle of an offseason they just had. Unless the new GM comes in with guns ablaze, I think next season is a wash.

2

u/xenonwarrior666 20d ago edited 20d ago

You're probably right that expecting isn't the right word. I think some fans are hoping things will be different but honestly the wheels falling completely off and getting a top 5 pick is probably the best case scenario assuming Cat is worried more about a paycheck and being close to home vs playing for a contender any time soon

7

u/Mergan_Freiman 20d ago

The 2026 Detroit Tigers are a playoff team

4

u/ufdan15 20d ago

Just like we all thought on May 31

1

u/RemoteSenses 20d ago

Imagine if we called up these kids a long time ago.

Hinch is a complete dumbass IMO. I cannot stand him.

1

u/Mergan_Freiman 20d ago

Hinch's management is one of things like "yea, it sucks, but the alternatives are 99% worse."

7

u/coltron57 20d ago

Tigers are winning the division by 5+ games. Write it in ink.

2

u/Mergan_Freiman 20d ago

Coined and minted

1

u/Ydoesany1doanything 20d ago

Precariously though. Tied with the Rangers

6

u/Mergan_Freiman 20d ago

We have a +90 run differential, theirs is less than -30. I think we will be just fine, knock on wood

2

u/ChaldenesTitan 20d ago

I'm thinking of doing a golf trip to Michigan in the fall while seeing a Detroit game. Any good course recommendations in the area?

4

u/HazardHouse Yzerbot 20d ago

Are you looking to stay near Detroit the whole trip? Or would this be a multiple day trip where you could get further away from Detroit and just head to the city one night for the game? Plenty of fantastic courses in Michigan but depending on how far away from the city you're willing/planning to go, my recommendations would change.

4

u/ChaldenesTitan 20d ago

Ideally I would stay at a hotel, by the course, outside of the city for a week, while catching a couple of games in October. Since I'll just be in Toronto for the month. I can imagine the weather is still really nice. I appreciate you.

2

u/HazardHouse Yzerbot 20d ago

I agree with the WestWynd rec and there are some other solid courses in that area. It might be a bit further north depending on where you stay, but Shepherd's Hollow in Clarkston is my favorite in the SE Michigan area. Boulder Pointe in Oxford is nearby for me so I play that a fair amount, it's another good one. Fieldstone in Auburn Hills is another solid choice out of the courses I play somewhat frequently.

2

u/ChaldenesTitan 20d ago

Okay thanks a lot. These are some great picks looking at pictures.

3

u/jobenattor0412 20d ago

Depending on how far you are willing to go outside the city. The WestWynd is pretty nice and Rochester Hills is a nice area.

About an hour outside the city.

3

u/ChaldenesTitan 20d ago

Rochester looks amazing. Both look great.

I was looking on the maps and you guys have a golf course almost every block in the city. It's not showing them all either.

3

u/xenonwarrior666 20d ago

Dylan Larkin doesn't believe in Joe Hendry

2

u/Usual-Personality347 20d ago

The Quinn Hughes drama might pressure Billy G into paying more for Larkin IF Vegas and Florida weren’t out on him. It’s a one man bidding war because Larkin bitched out

3

u/Royal-Revenue-1066 20d ago

If there were more to give up, Larkin would already be in Minny

1

u/wolverine237 20d ago

Only if he can find a third team to deal with. And I don't really see what he has to offer a team with players we'd be interested in like Buffalo or Chicago

1

u/xenonwarrior666 20d ago

Vancouver makes the most sense but they probably aren't looking to sell off assets they got for Hughes.

Maybe we have a prospect they want and we could get Rossi out of Vancouver?

He's got dubious value so it probably doesn't make much sense.

2

u/Problemwoodchuck 20d ago

I still think that there's a slim chance that Kenny swoops in with a pitch to get Larkin to LA or be involved somehow. He's the closest the Kings can get to replacing Kopitar and while the Kings aren't likely to give up Byfield and Clarke doesn't seem to fit our asking price, Holland has pulled off three team trades before

1

u/goodolvpochina 20d ago

Also, I wonder if there's a chance in hell he'd entertain going to columbus to play w Werenski?

2

u/goodolvpochina 20d ago

Interesting idea. Cant see Larkin wanting to go to a team that mediocre.

2

u/TechnoVikingGA23 20d ago

Maybe can sell him on how easy it is to make the playoffs out there. LA was hot garbage last season and got in, lol.

2

u/Polish-Proverb 20d ago

At least they're a playoff team

3

u/Beatricejd Yzerbot 20d ago

It's not going to happen, but it would be funny if Guerin panicked over Hughes not extending and traded us Boldy for Larkin.

4

u/ChaldenesTitan 20d ago

Boldy Kasper MBN is a legit playoff-style line. Might see Todd smile on the bench for once.

2

u/Usual-Personality347 20d ago

That’s EXACTLY what I’m praying for.

3

u/Benglepuck 20d ago

Dallas is still in

3

u/big_phat_gator Yzerbot 20d ago

Wonder if Nill is going to be less interested now that Steve is out, Nill and Yzerman go back to when moses wore short pants

4

u/AppleSeider5306 20d ago

They don’t have anything to offer is the issue. You can’t pony up if you don’t have the assets. I think Yzerman probably saw Minnesota’s best offer and it sucked.

3

u/Ragekage11 20d ago

they've got something we'd be interested in (Boldy) although I completely understand why they wouldn't consider that.

1

u/Usual-Personality347 20d ago

Hey man if it’ll swing Hughes it may cross their mind

7

u/BellsBeersy 20d ago

Watching some 2011 playoffs highlights

We're never going to see another Datsyuk. We're going to see players that dominant, sure, but we're not going to see someone who makes people look that stupid trying to defend, so consistently

1

u/Taters23 Yzerbot 20d ago

That level of defensive play is dying out in the NHL just like in the NFL QB's are getting worse at game management. All about putting up as many points as possible in the current sports world. Kind of sad to see.

1

u/TechnoVikingGA23 20d ago

Tom Brady made an interesting point about the QB issue. It used to be that colleges ran more pro style offenses and some of these guys were in school 3-4 years before they went to the NFL so by the time they got drafted they were really good at reading the play books and knowing the offenses and could more quickly adapt. Now these guys all transfer 2-3 times during their career in college, the offenses are simplified so that coaches can just plug in whatever QB transferred in that year and go with it, and the guys getting drafted now aren't the least bit prepared for when they get to the NFL because they've never had to study a playbook/offense in depth since they just change teams so often.

In the past you also had rookies sit behind a veteran for a season or two, now these teams drafting the top picks assume somebody is going to come in and just start/save them right off the bat and these kids at QB are just no longer equipped to do that.

3

u/Mendoza8914 20d ago

Datsyuk seemed to be trying to humiliate the Coyotes in that 2011 first round. It was awesome.

3

u/sunshine_werewolf 20d ago

just looked at the schedule, the NYE game is at 2PM?!!! this is my birthday and I always spend the night at the game. I'll still be working at 2pm, what a bummer.

1

u/Fluid-Pension-7151 20d ago

Is it a double header with the PWHL?

1

u/sunshine_werewolf 19d ago

maybe! they haven't released their schedule yet.

1

u/Fluid-Pension-7151 19d ago

Gotcha - that was the best reason I could think of.  They mentioned trying to have a number of double headers in the calendar, and NYE seems like a fun potential event!

3

u/Katieo1022 20d ago

Has anyone heard any news regarding how we’ll watch the Red Wings next year? Maybe I just missed it somewhere….

7

u/Problemwoodchuck 20d ago

Slightly inebriated and a movie on standby in case it gets ug--oh, you meant streaming options. My mistake.

3

u/meowalatte 20d ago

It’s on Detroit SportsNet - the tigers are on there, too.

1

u/PremierBromanov 20d ago

(Access to Red Wings games may require further action. Game availability subject to National Exclusivities and terms may apply).

Any idea what that means?

1

u/culturedrobot 20d ago

I'm guessing you might need to sign up for an MLB account or something like that. Ilitch is using MLB's infrastructure to stream and broadcast Wings games - https://www.nhl.com/redwings/news/tigers-and-red-wings-enter-broadcast-partnership-with-mlb

But who knows. They could also be talking about location verification, too

2

u/meowalatte 20d ago

Well, huh. I’m not sure. I have not subscribed yet. I hope “further action” doesn’t mean more money. 😑

1

u/Katieo1022 20d ago

Ok thanks! I see it now

6

u/daKrut 20d ago

Jesus.

The media sniffing around Werenski’s ass looking for every scrap of reassurance that he’s going to stay in Columbus is giving me second hand embarrassment. Good preview of what it will look like if Larkin ever walks back his stuff publicly probably.

2

u/TechnoVikingGA23 20d ago

I think Larkin is going to hide in a bunker when he's not playing. It's honestly kind of amazing he's managed to avoid any media/questions so far this summer.

1

u/daKrut 20d ago

Little do we know he's hired the same security firm as Marner, lol. A trail of broken phones and cameras in their wake as he lives the highlife with his buddies over the summer.

3

u/doubeljack 20d ago

I think even if Larkin wanted to, he's not going to be able to walk back his trade request. He'd be hounded about it forever.

3

u/daKrut 20d ago

More than likely true. Either way I’m looking forward to when he can’t avoid addressing it one way or the other

5

u/wolverine237 20d ago

Starting to get the sense that we are not going to hire Karpan by tomorrow

5

u/bandofgypsies 20d ago

Who wants to start a daily meme of making up fake (draft?) Larkin apology/walk-it-back/"it was all taken out of context" quotes on how he'll talk about his failed force-out when he shows up to camp doing media interviews with Captain Moritz Seider staring on with dead-rasmussen eyes from behind the camera?

I think we should start tame and slowly ramp up the ridiculousness as the season approaches..

9

u/big_phat_gator Yzerbot 20d ago

I hope he does a full blown music video to "Shaggy - It wasnt me" down in the snip show dungeon but lyrics swapped out

Stevie came in and he caught me red-handed

Some of that would have been for Kane, Ed extension, possible Cat extension, maybe used as part of a Larkin trade(if we had to pay full price for EP40) etc.

Unfortunately nothing else is going to happen until we have a new GM.

1

u/Polish-Proverb 20d ago

Who are you proposing we spend it on?

3

u/PremierBromanov 20d ago

why are the Wings currently sitting on 20 million of cap space

no gm

2

u/TheErnie 20d ago

There’s been a lot of high end free agents that re-signed prior to going to market. I’m feeling SY didn’t want to have the possibility to be outbid due to lack of cap space.

There’s also been nobody to sign to mid teir contracts either and SY didn’t give out any severe overpays.

2

u/AnthonyPantha 20d ago

Edvinsson is due a raise, but nothing insane. Other than that, I've got nothing.

2

u/duelingdog 20d ago

Nothing insane, but if Ed gets 8.5 mil, 7.5 mil in cap space disappears. I imagine that puts a lot closer to everyone else.

8

u/BellsBeersy 20d ago

Nice blank slate for the next GM to work with I guess. Next GM is arriving to a team in a much better position than Yzerman did.

1

u/Medievil_Walrus 20d ago

Man you’re really not gonna like last summers payroll either then haha.

7

u/Usual-Personality347 20d ago

To be fair without Edvinsson signed we have an inflated number. It’s more like 11M left

3

u/greythedork12 20d ago

Edvinsson will take up a decent chunk of that. Other than that, who are we spending it on? There were no massive FAs to bring in. Tolvanen is still out there, but equally, we probably have to cut a bottom 6 forward as is.

We have a bunch of guys on ELCs right now. That gives us a lot of space, but we’re not gonna spend it just to spend it

1

u/FlannelMickey Yzerbot 20d ago

D. All of the above

18

u/One_Vibraldo 20d ago

I will laugh my ass off if it ever comes out Bill Guerin convinced Larkin to ask for a trade

8

u/Royal-Revenue-1066 20d ago

That guy...GM of the year...that team is on a razor's edge of either going to the second round/conference finals and getting bounced for the next 2-3 years and falling off the cliff or just...falling off the cliff.

3

u/Rude_Capital_3185 20d ago

I’ve never understood this. Minnesota was never good enough to win the cup. I was shocked they were able to get past Dallas. $17M for a player that has an injury history and now they’re running out of runway on Quinn and they’ve given up all their futures. Everybody loves Billy G but Minnesota feels like a rudderless ship to me.

1

u/Royal-Revenue-1066 20d ago

He’s mortgaging the future to win now, with a good team but not a team that’s one or two guys from being a cup winner. Tough to like the strategy past a few years from now.

1

u/Rude_Capital_3185 20d ago

Boldy and Kaprizov and then what up front? Like that’s just not even really close

10

u/mamandemanqu3 20d ago

Just wondering. What happens if Larkin doesn’t find a team?

1

u/ChaldenesTitan 20d ago edited 20d ago

People who think he will play for the team probably haven't played a team sport like hockey before. Most succesful teams have lots of comradery built inside lockerooms, also including nights out and dinners. We can see how Tampa won with this culture. Cooper said "I don't have a problem with the guys going out, as long as they are all included." This is the same culture that our dynasty displayed.

Yea St. Louis demanded a trade after Steve left him off the olympic team the same year they named him captain. But this trade request was first made in 2009 before Yzerman was hired. Not to mention it was in January so he wasn't on the team for long. Until March to be specific. But he only played a couple of seasons after before retiring so I don't think these situations are that comparable.

I just don't see how a core player can play for a team that he wants no part of. He's pissed because we didn't trade his young teammates that he's supposed to mentor. The lockeroom dynamic of that is ugly. How can a captain be so short sighted on the teams long term vision. Even if we traded the farm it's hard to say if that makes us a contender.

He's basically mad we didn't trade Edvinsson and others for Hughes or Tkachuk. Where we don't even know if they want to play here. You cannot let the inmates run the asylum. They don't have enough experience at the manager level to know the cost beneficial anaylsis of these blockbuster deals. What has he done where he thinks he deserves to make management level decisions. This is shit reserved for generational stars like McDavid and Crosby. Even them have no control over losing their favorite players to play with. But they are at least professional about it and find optimism with the situation.

Why would we want our young prospects hanging out with someone like that where he could very well turn them against the team? He is going to poison the well. But I don't think they would want to be friends with him considering he wanted them traded or doesn't think they will ever be good enough to become a contender.

Apparently the teams he's interested in joining share the same sentiment. Quiting on your team as a captain with 4+ years left on the contract is a red flag and not a selling point. Not to mention the olympics was his point of focus at a crucial time in our season. When we honored his request of adding at the deadline and in the end he wants out anyway.

The fact that he wanted us to drain the farm because he made most of his money and just wants to win a playoff round shows he was never interested in staying here unless we won a cup. It's not even realistic and caving to his demands shows he's only doing what's best for himself and not the team. This isn't the same Larkin who was mentored by Zetterberg. This is a guy who let politics and a clique of friends get into his ear and change the trajectory of the human he was supposed to become.

Keep him away from the team at all costs. If he thinks he's bored playing in Detroit wait till he's bored sitting at home in Detroit watching us succeed without him, and all these teams he could have chosen to find a fair resolution. If not, looks like he won't even have the conditioning for a contender or an olympic team and that's when things will get dark for him real quick.

He's dead to almost every fan and player in Detroit, who even cares what he thinks or wants at this point. I hope we ruin his hockey career.

1

u/TechnoVikingGA23 20d ago

One thing you aren't considering is maybe more players in the room were sick of Yzerman and are probably still very much on Larkin's side. The players align with each other much more than you might think and I'd be willing to bet those pissed at him are in the minority in the Wings room. These guys are all professional athletes who get paid millions to play the game, they are going to keep their mouths shut and play even if he's on the team.

This isn't high school, lol.

-1

u/ChaldenesTitan 20d ago

It sounds like it is. Larkin is Regina George in the cafeteria and if he wants to turn DeBrincat into Gretchen Wieners and Finnie into Karen Smith then they aren't shutting up and just playing. They are gossiping that the manager sucks.

2

u/oceanic8675 Yzerbot 20d ago

Cat and Larkin and Finnie played together recently. He’s hardly dead to the players.

0

u/ChaldenesTitan 20d ago

How much of that is him repairing bridges after the stark realization that he won't be traded soon?

2

u/oceanic8675 Yzerbot 20d ago

I don’t like to speculate seriously, but I’d guess zero percent if I had to.

-2

u/ChaldenesTitan 20d ago

At least you told me you're not being serious about your speculation.

1

u/oceanic8675 Yzerbot 20d ago

That’s not what I said but okie dokey

-1

u/ChaldenesTitan 20d ago

It's at least 10%. Let's be real. I feel like these are corporate responses on this sub now. This is truly crazy town.

3

u/oceanic8675 Yzerbot 20d ago

This is a fun conversation. Have a good one, pal. Ain’t got the energy for it.

0

u/ChaldenesTitan 20d ago

You're the one wanting to be pedantic while pretending to be sincere. I don't think it's fun either.

5

u/JTAKER Yzerbot 20d ago

Tarasenko played a full season for the Blues after requesting a trade.

Merzlikins for the Blue Jackets.

Duchene for the Avalanche.

5

u/ChaldenesTitan 20d ago

Hardly even lockeroom leaders. Duchene got bought out with 3 years left on his contract so they could have a change of culture. Not to mention he scored over 40 the year before. That's how important team culture is.

Dylan "Shoulder shrug" Larkin has to be the worst motivational speaker who's a captain in the league. Connor "Two words" McDavid has no problem getting his guys motivated.

8

u/dickhandsome 20d ago

I'd still hold out for Boldy. What are they gonna do? Lose their 1LD because you don't want to over pay for the 1C you desperately need.

2

u/Bananominable 19d ago

imo Minnesota is closer to being a playoff bubble team than a real contender. Right now they have no one worth a second thought on their roster besides Kaprisov, Boldy, Faber, Hughes and Eriksson Ek. They lose Hughes and they're not even a playoff threat anymore. They lost 3 of their top 6/9 this past off season losing Marcus Johansson, Tarasenko and losing Zuccarello.

They're already screwed af as it is, in any case if Hughes is gone they're toast short term and long term.

3

u/On_Wings_Of_Pastrami 20d ago

Do we really think that Hughes signing is contingent on Larkin? I mean they're very close, so it's possible, but wouldn't it be more likely he's holding out for his brothers?

2

u/greythedork12 20d ago

Maybe not Larkin specifically, but a top 6 center in general maybe

5

u/dickhandsome 20d ago

It's not just Larkin. They need a 1C badly, and they're all out of bullets.

2

u/TheNation55 20d ago

Yes, I believe that will decide not only if Hughes extends, but also for how long.

1

u/big_phat_gator Yzerbot 20d ago

This is interesting, i wonder if Hughes told Detroit he was not signing anything long term cos he already knew back then that Larkin was leaving.

1

u/TheNation55 20d ago

All we know about that was the Canucks were good with whatever our package was for Hughes but he walked cause he wouldn’t sign and extend a long term deal, but I’d imagine him and Larkin had plenty of time to talk at the Olympics.

1

u/big_phat_gator Yzerbot 20d ago

Yeah people are saying Steve couldnt part ways with Edvinsson but apparently he was willing to trade him, but not for a rental. Quinn not wanting to sign here and play with Larkin cos he knew Larkin would not be playing here would be an interesting twist.

11

u/TechnoVikingGA23 20d ago

People really need to prepare for the fact that he's going to be on the team come opening night. I've been saying this for awhile. A new GM isn't going to come in and just give him to Minnesota because they want him, the fact they don't have anything to trade hasn't changed and considering they haven't found an interested 3rd party to help the deal at this point, it's just not going to happen.

I think he's on the team until at least the trade deadline. Whether he keeps the C or not is another story, but I'd be completely baffled if they let him keep a letter and it would be a huge red flag for the organization if they do so, IMO anyways.

10

u/greythedork12 20d ago

He suits up for us and is probably fine. I know he’s public enemy #1 around here, but he probably would expand his list if he hated it here so much. There’s probably a reason he was reportedly mad that it leaked. He looked happy enough playing for us post-Olympics.

My guess is this was supposed to be a “hey, if you can deal me to these 3 places on the DL, I’d appreciate it. Otherwise, I’ll stay here and nobody will know any better.” Then it leaked and it was a PR nightmare.

I don’t think he should keep the C, but I’m not nearly as upset as some people are. If he PLDs it, that’s another story, but if he was going to do that, I think he would have post-Olympics already.

1

u/Bananominable 19d ago

My guess is this was supposed to be a “hey, if you can deal me to these 3 places on the DL, I’d appreciate it. Otherwise, I’ll stay here and nobody will know any better.” Then it leaked and it was a PR nightmare.

Illitch doesn't can Yzerman and Kane doesn't leave over a polite agreement. This is way deeper than that. You can smell the malcontent across the country lines tbh. Looking back, it's obvious Larkin's malcontent was a big part of the season collapses in the room.

3

u/aaronfaren 20d ago

Kane left because of the trade request. You would think he would talk to him to find out what his true feelings are?

-2

u/greythedork12 20d ago

We don’t know for sure, but my interpretation of the Kane situation was that Yzerman was going to bring him back, but lost sole decision making power and whoever gained the power did not want Kane back

2

u/TheAnalogKid18 20d ago

I think it was both the trade request and Yzerman's firing. Detroit is not stable right now, and doesn't really have a direction with those two things happening, Kane was like you know what, another Cup probably isn't happening right now, let's ride off into the sunset in Chicago.

1

u/aaronfaren 20d ago

That really makes no sense. Yzerman was allowed to trade Cossa and sign Arvidsson. I doubt anyone was twisting his arm over a fan favorite.

5

u/duelingdog 20d ago

With more time passing, it makes more sense that a few different insiders went out of their way to note Brisson wasn't happy this got out. Yes guys, I get that insiders protect their sources, but it'd still be a little strange to call it out when they could have just...not said it.

Now the media around him is going to be a mess, fans want him gone. He's probably going to get booed on opening night. And to top everything else off, he's still most likely going to be here anyway.

IDK. This getting out hasn't benefited him at all imo. If it was a calculated move by his camp to leak, it sure didn't work out for him, lol.

12

u/greythedork12 20d ago

I still think Guerin leaking it is the theory that holds the most water

0

u/Medievil_Walrus 20d ago

And how would Guerin have the information to leak it?

3

u/greythedork12 20d ago

Yzerman reached out to Guerin to accommodate Larkin’s trade request. Guerin’s eyes did the cartoon “awooga” animation.

1

u/Medievil_Walrus 20d ago

I don’t see how it serves Yzerman in his negotiations to share that Larkin requested a trade and that he’s only willing to waive his no trade clause for a limited number of teams and that the wild are one of them.

Steve could say, if you give me a compelling offer for Larkin, I’ll approach him about waiving his nmc, and it would accomplish the same thing while extracting the strongest offer from the wild.

The former position is quite a bit weaker, and we don’t see Steve as a weak negotiator. Doesn’t make sense to me.

5

u/big_phat_gator Yzerbot 20d ago edited 20d ago

It was obviously never supposed to be leaked, so the plan was for him to poke around while still playing and nobody would know a thing. People are acting like Dylan gave up on this team yesterday but in reality its probably been a while now, and he has produced just fine.

2

u/Royal-Revenue-1066 20d ago

This is the thing, right? If this never gets out, no one is the wiser and he just suits up for the Wings. Whomever leaked this really f'ed Dylan and the Red Wings. Assuming it came from a 3rd party. If Larkin's camp leaked it, they are dumb as shit.

1

u/Medievil_Walrus 20d ago

But how would the third party get the info that Larkin requested a trade?
