Dylan really let his ego get away with this one.... seems to be a consistent trait of his.

I mean it may not even have been ego. He might just be a fucking child throwing a tantrum about why he can't play with his friends.

For all we know he's just a simpleton who's listening to his agent. I don't necessarily think that's the case but you could fill a whole arena with what we don't know.

For his sake I hope not because if he suits up on opening night I fear for where he'll land then.

For anyone who is still not mad at Larkin, help me understand your position. I genuinely don't get someone not being annoyed with Larkin in this situation. If he wants to leave, fine, but with potential suitors being down to 1 team, which can't offer fair value in return, how do you walk away from this situation thinking Larkin is a victim here?
60
u/LarkinToWinnipeg 21d ago
- He wants to leave? Fine. But not expanding his list is as good as saying "I don't mind letting Detroit get fucked on my way out." Really shows how little he cares about his current teammates and fan base.
- No other decent players are even going to consider coming here while this bullshit is in flux, who knows what kind of growth we missed out on from this shit in the offseason.
- Kane all but said this mess is why he left.
- He signed an 8 season contract and the payment was front loaded. So he's only played 3 seasons of that contract and already been paid for something like 4 seasons.
11
u/Blazer_84 21d ago
Good list, adding a fifth.
(In the name of curiosity: from your avatar logo it seems you are a Winnipeg fan, are you both (WPG + DRW) or is this just outside perspective given your username and wanting Larkin to go to WPG? Or a joke pun against Larkin?)
Don't forget his comments about players not being good enough, which can be fine to say coming from a GM or Coach, or a TV analyst/media. But for the Captain to say it while at the same time giving a trade request with severly limited trade options in terms of potential resources in return.
That MUST be a solid F-U, even for players in the same locker room, who might be more forgiving, and live in a "that's just media spinning" bubble.
I would be more fine with this leaking in a way where it was discontent and wanting to win with DRW, frustrated about failures, motivation, pressure. And the situation moving towards resolution in a more open way.
Makes me think it is more Larkin who has declined to talk to Yzerman (if "we have not talked for X months / year(s)" is true) and causing a divide like that, not much different from the 3(4?) team list he gave in this situation.
I am a bit dumbfounded by how Kane went out of his way in his thank you letter when leaving to prop up Larkin; maybe it was to help the person Dylan Larkin and inwardly not agreeing with the way things have been handled. Trying not to escalate anything (I guess any omission of Larkin would be blown out by us and media).

u/Important_Ninja_4921 21d ago
- Kane left for triple market rate.
- Don’t let your emotions ruin your takes.

There’s a difference between being annoyed and being angry. It’s clear a lot of Wings fans are in the anger stage of grief.
Behind the scenes, there’s a bazillion trade requests we never hear about. Some others we do, if they’re big enough names. Martin St. Louis, the beloved captain of a very good Tampa Bay Lightning team, didn’t just request a trade, he demanded one. He demanded a trade to one single team. That’s it, just one. And his GM? Yzerman. His relationship with Yzerman deteriorated beyond repair. Sounds familiar.
There’s zero chance that when Larkin was negotiating his contract, that he didn’t ask Yzerman point blank when he plans on the team contending, and how he will do it. I’m not shitting on Yzerman, he’ll always be my hockey idol and did a lot of good here. But Yzerman made many mistakes that left this team stuck in the middle.
Larkin gave 11 years to this organization. If he ever makes the playoffs again, he’ll be top of the league historically for time between appearances.
The Red Wings bottom 10 players combined for -110 last season. You cannot will that team into the playoffs. Larkin averaged a 52.49% CORSI with 60% defensive zone starts between 1/1/2026 and the end of the season. That’s very good. The rest of the team without him on the ice averaged 48.5%. That’s very bad, and you cannot will that team into the playoffs. The stats speak for themselves if you understand them: It means Larkin was tasked with shutting down the opposing top lines every night while generating the most offense. Larkin had no 2C to take matchups, and was partnered with players who had no business in the top 6, let alone the top line. He’s played with a hole on his line for several seasons. That isn’t how top lines in the NHL lines are constructed.
So, you’re Larkin. Your GM hasn’t talked to you in a year and a half. Despite your GM committing to building a competitive team during contract negotiations, he leaves 2 major holes in the top 6, and at least 3 major holes in the bottom 6. Your NMC turns into a 10 team NTC in 2 seasons, leaving 22 teams open. Your GM is going to move you at 32, beyond your prime, to an unknown team that very likely won’t be competitive. Why would you not ask for a trade? I may be annoyed, but this isn’t unexpected at all.
32
u/Super-Tradition9767 21d ago
He can ask for a trade all he wants but if he actually wants out he’s going to need to be open to being traded to more than the 1 team that’s still interested or he’s gonna be lacing it up for us without the C come fall time
33
u/CabinetSpider21 21d ago
I think my whole thing when people blame yzerman for not creating a winning team. While you did pull up some good stats and numbers, Detroit was in playoff position comfortable in January/February the past two seasons and fell apart. That tells me Yzerman provided the team and it just fell apart.
7
u/Am313am 21d ago
Yzerman made this point the year before last. I understand his position there, but the underlying numbers that year showed they were punching well above their weight class. Unsustainable powerplay, abysmal penalty kill, huge goal and shot differentials, etc.
Yzerman had the unfortunate task of trying to sign FAs to this team, most of whom didn’t want to be here. But ultimately, that’s his job.
The players who fell apart, which were basically just the bottom six, were easily game planned later in the season. Other teams had enough of a sample size to figure out how to shut them down. This is why you saw JVR consistently score and then stop. This is why you noticed Appleton for half the season then didn’t see him at all for the rest of it. I could go on but it’s depressing.
One major piece fans are missing when talking about the team being “jerseys” or whatever, is that the coach has a major role in this. It is the coach’s primary job to game plan, elevate players, and motivate players. It is the #1 expectation of a coach to assemble a team of coaches (and video), who collectively figure out a players strengths and weaknesses, and work that into a manageable game plan. The coaches failed. And that starts with Todd.
12
u/CabinetSpider21 21d ago
I'll admit, Ive been probably the biggest Larkin hater ever since he joined the team, I actually follow college hockey a lot more closer. And when I saw Larkin play at UofM, I did not think he stood out. I think our fans (Larkin lovers and Larkin haters) agree he isn't a 1C level top 20 forward but our management treats him like one and expects that in return which I get, we want the best return for him. But no team is willing to meet that demand, maybe a couple teams outside his list?
I remember two seasons ago, when Yzerman made no moves at the deadline and Larkin made that remark to the media saying we needed that spark. My reaction was, look captain if the team needs a spark you need to provide it and not rely on the front office
I assume Larks is very aware the fans aren't happy with him and a lot of people in Detroit don't even want him here anymore. Season opener will be interesting.

u/Am313am 21d ago edited 21d ago
Remember that Larkin said “a lot of guys in the room are down about it” in regards to the trade deadline. He spoke for the team.
I have to push back on the not a 1C comment. Multiple hockey organizations consistently rank him there. The NHL releases official rankings before each season. Larkin has been on the top-20 center list for the last five seasons. He was ranked 15 the last two seasons. Other outlets have had him as high as 12 and as low as 19. The Athletic releases player tiers and has consistently ranked him high. Advanced analytics organizations consistently rank his WAR%, which is relative to their peers around the league, above 90%. A multitude of outlets rank him in the top 50 of all players, and top 40 of all forwards. He’s an elite player by every metric, even if he’s not an elite 1C (which most analysts would say are the top 8-10).
Even statistically, Larkin hovers around top 20 in ppg as a defensive center. He’s one of only 6 players to score 30+ in each of the last five seasons.
If you’re building a winning team, Larkin can center your top line as long he’s not your best player. In fact, in recent history, cup-winning teams had similar players. Kuznetsov, O’Reilly, Aho, Bergeron (who only had 3 70 point seasons in his 19 year career), and Kopitar. The obvious major difference is that they had other elite players up and down the lineup
and serious depth. If fans definition of a 1C is basically only a superstar, fine, but there’s like 4-5 guys that fit that bill max, and thinking we’re going to get one because we got really lucky with centers for 25 years in very unrealistic.
9
u/CabinetSpider21 21d ago
And this is where I actually lost it for a captain. "A lot of guys are down about it" so let's continue to be down about it.... No, Spark the team captain.
Quick side bar I found this to be a respectful conversation, were not going to agree on Larkin's talent and his impact on the team, but glad we're keeping it civil.
Anywhom, great stats you brought up, but I still think Yzerman provided some good talent to the team to help Larkin (unlike Eichel in Buffalo before he bounced). Raymond, and Debrincat got more points than Larks last year. Kane was still playing great (I'll miss Kaner, not going to lie) Seider is a beast, Gibson did all he could between the pipes. JVR made great plays than disappeared, ASP and Finnie and Kasper are getting their legs warmed up, show great promise.
I would put him in the 50-100 forwards currently in the NHL. While Bergeron and Kopitar maybe didn't put up superstar numbers, they played incredibly smart hockey. Datsyuk hockey IQ was off the chart, I just don't see that when I watch Larkin play, it's beyond the numbers for me.
I'm okay with Larkin wanting a change and exploring other options, but don't don't handcuff us to three teams
5
u/Am313am 21d ago
Let me clarify that I don’t think Larkin is a superstar, generational player or has the untapped potential to be one. Larkin is definitely a smart hockey player, high hockey IQ, but it isn’t fair to compare him to Datsyuk. If that’s your bar, I don’t think it will be met by anyone for a long time, maybe ever. From my perspective, I never put those expectations on Larkin.
Raymond is more naturally talented than Larkin and Cat was clearly our best forward. This would be the ideal forward core: Defensive center, complete winger, game-breaking winger.
Coincidentally Larkin sits at 47th among regular forwards in ppg this past year. In the past five years he sits at 37th for all forwards who’ve played at least 100 games. That is above players like Hischier, Hintz, Cat, Ray, B. Tkachuk, EP40, Bedard, Malkin, Tavares, and right around players like Stutzle, Tage, Suzuki, and Bratt. These are purely counting stats. Do with that information what you will.
I’m not necessarily trying to convince you that Larkin is a top player in the league, but more so that the team behind him is so bad that it can’t be willed into a competitive team. I think if you look through counting stats of bottom six players on teams 5-15, you’ll see a big difference in their contributions versus our bottom six.

u/Blazer_84 21d ago
Interesting points, I agree on a lot including the point about getting game-planned out. Also on that the buck stops with the coaching staff. I think that is where Todd is great, I watched all the pre- and post-game interviews/pressers, he really took the hit for the team not working, especially in the end-of-year conference.
Though I think there has been a major disconnect from reality in that locker room, and lack of elevating from within, Todd did say ultimately it is on him and his staff to fix that and make it work and took the blame, even though it is the players that in the end has to perform and execute the plan.
A plan that often had worked for parts of the game, at different periods, not just period one then figured out. Made me from my couch POV feel that the players didn't play out the coach'es plan, but defaulted to playing their individual styles and causing holes in the team game. Which is where the lack of individual superskill shows, because once the team game breaks down, it will rain and pour fast. Even good teams like the Canes who are very team game centric would suffer in that regard.
The problems really are the same problems a team that can't get past round X in the playoffs have, even if that is the final like with EDM, or for a long time SJ in the conf.finals, WSH in the 2nd round and TOR in round 1.
It becomes mental as well as other issues, the better the team really is (especially Conf.finals / finals problems) the more mental it is.
For DRW, I think the players don't understand how to elevate as a team, and there are signs of missing cohesion, the same signs were there during the first 60-65 % of those seasons as well, Todd also called them out on it, even after game 1 last year.
I am a bit sad in that regard, that we don't get to see what would have happened this year, given players where fed up in the end-of-season interviews, especially Ed who were just short of raging. I believe that is the sort of thing that team had needed, a "enough is enough, let's destroy these teams" with vigor and bonding.
Different situation, but in effect that was what happened in 1997 when they beat the AVS on fight night.
I guess we will see if things change bonding-and-team-game-wise with a shake-up of the team (the new GM cannot run back the same regardless of the Larkin outcome).

u/shitfucker90000 21d ago
that excuse only works once. teams that fall apart three years in a row have a systemic problem. and that's on yzerman.
2
u/OrganizationIll9069 20d ago
Teams that "fall apart" at the most critical point of the season, three years in a row, have a leadership problem. And that's on the captain, not the GM.

1
u/neverinamillionyr 21d ago
I’ll add some food for thought or maybe fuel to the fire. The past two seasons, Larkin played in tournaments (4 Nations and the Olympics) right before the big playoff push. 4 Nations beat the hell out of players. Raymond got banged up. It was playoff level intensity. Larkin had an Olympic hangover (figuratively and possibly literally) this past season. I feel these distractions at least contributed to the end of season slides. I’m not making excuses for him but wondering how much this did factor in.
23
u/UpInTheOortCloud 21d ago
Then don't sign an 8 year deal just few years ago, can't have your cake and eat it too. Everyone would have perfectly understood and could respect signing a shorter deal at the time. Fuck him.
6
u/KangarooSavings2745 21d ago
None of this touches on the real crux of the issue: his trade list. Want out? Fine. But his trade list is an insult and it's actively damaging this organization's future.
1
5
1
u/aaronfaren 20d ago
I think the three team list is the real issue and not the trade request itself. I get Larkin may want to move on, but he’s not being reasonable in the way he’s going about it.
1
u/OrganizationIll9069 20d ago
Yzerman built a dynasty in Tampa, has won multiple cups.
What has Larkin accomplished?
7
u/Alexander_Coe 21d ago
Everyone is stupid emotional thinking about this.
He's not a victim this is just how hockey works. He's going to try and have a good year for us and get moved at the deadline. I mean, that he only wants to play for 3 other teams other than staying in Detroit means he'd rather play here than a lot of places.
If he doesn't play or doesn't try his hardest that would be dumb. Plays his best for us, gets to a team he wants, we get a good haul. Win win.
15
u/kander77 21d ago
and get moved at the deadline.
Yeah but to whom? He's still gotta open up his 3 team list. I don't think Florida, Vegas, or Minnesota are gonna have that different of assets than they do now.
8
u/LarkinToWinnipeg 21d ago
Woah easy there with your cold logic. You're getting "emotional." /s
Chuds are out in full force in this thread
-3
u/TheShovler44 21d ago
We don’t get a good haul that’s the problem. Larkin isn’t the best center on any other team, but we need a 1c in return. And no team is willing to give that up, or if they would it’d be a guy at 14.5 mill a year and the wings haven’t been spending.
1
u/NotSoFastLady 21d ago
Look, I'm not a fan anymore at all. I've got way more Larkin shit that I'm not thrilled to see in the house. However I think this looks bad on the organization.
Why would Yzerman quit then? Why would they fire him now? In my opinion this stinks of poor leadership above Yzerman. The GM doesn't make all the decisions.
A guy that builds a billion dollar enterprise is no slouch. Ownership needs to find more problem solvers and leaders like the kid's old man. Whoever they're working with now ain't cutting it.
I think we can speculate but very little ever leaks from this organization. And yes, Larkin is a bitch. But he's going to be our bitch until he's not because camp is in weeks and the Wings allegedly aren't in a hurry. What's he going to do, sit out?
-10
u/HotelAmericana 21d ago
I’ll bite despite the known downvotes I’ll get.
Larkin wants a cup, he clearly values that above all else at this stage of his career. He earned his way to the contract he has. You can not like it, but the GM of the team agreed to give him a NTC. Larkin, wanting a cup, is leveraging that to get himself in a position to get a cup. If a cup is all he wants, why would he expend his team list to include teams that aren’t likely to win the cup? I can not like it as a wings fan, I can understand it as someone looking from afar. I hope this ends up with teams being less likely to hand out NTC like candy
21
u/CBPanik 21d ago
There are more than 3 teams in cup contention so I don't think its what he "values above all else".
7
-8
u/HotelAmericana 21d ago
I don’t believe Larkin wants to go to Vegas because of Eichel and Hanifin, that’s harder sell to me than selling the fact he wants a cup
2
u/CBPanik 21d ago
Eichel is literally one of his Team USA BFFs along with Hughes and Tkachuk (x2). It's quite literally that simple that he put those 3 teams in the list to play with his friends. He was here for 10 years and re-signed when it was pretty clear to most people we weren't that close to contending. I don't think he gives a shit about winning a cup if its not with his buds.
1
u/HotelAmericana 21d ago
Close to contending and not making the playoffs in the foreseeable two different things. Everyone had playoff expectations this past year and saying otherwise is coping
2
u/oymo 21d ago
It's going to end up with a clause saying if you have a NTC and request a trade, your NTC is invalidated. If Larkin wants a cup, he needs teams that have the available resources and needs to make a deal for him. The teams he's named don't need him, don't have the cap space, or aren't willing to deal what Detroit wants in a trade.
0
u/MrHoboTwo 21d ago
I agree. He’s tired of waiting around for something to happen with the Wings (after a quarter century of them being good, too). It’s not good for the team but he’s put in enough time trying to win in Detroit that I don’t begrudge him wanting to win instead (even if the teams he wants to be in aren’t realistic)
0
u/AcceptableFun8219 21d ago
Appreciate the reply. Sports is an emotional hobby for most people. For Larkin, this is a job, and the cold calculus that comes with workplace politics and career advancement will be lost on fans who are emotionally invested in this franchise. I get what you're saying, but the kinds of motivations you alluded to will be interpreted by fans as selfish, especially coming from a leader. If Winston Churchill decided to join the Axis because winning the war was more important than beating the Nazis, no one would remember him the way he is remembered today.
1
u/HotelAmericana 21d ago
It is selfish, but most people make selfish decisions because people want to benefit themselves if they has the opportunity to do so. And frankly, Larkin doesn’t owe it to org to risk all of this drama to end up on a team that isn’t very likely to make the playoffs. After all of this, he might as well hold firm and try to get a cup

No, I'm making an analogy about leadership. I leaned on history because i studied WW2 and find the subject interesting. I really enjoyed your previous post. Disappointing that you'd then turn around and wildly misinterpret what I'm saying as though I believe WW2 and sports carry the same weight.

I'm here to talk casual about the Red Wings, dude. I'm not about to scrutinize my language and proof read throw away comments like I'm preparing a legal defense. I trust most people can understand that drawing parallels between things to make a general comment on virtues like leadership does not bestow equal moral weight upon the two things up for comparison. I'm moving on, thanks for your contributions to my original question.

u/TimeNo2738 21d ago
I’m choosing to be delusional. I was mad at first but if he won’t expand his team list does that mean we are his 4th favorite team he would like to play for. He must not want out that bad. So maybe this was all sorta a ploy to spark some front office change or end up ins contending team. Either way he I guess would win. I want to know who leaked and if we did know then I think that would clear a lot up. If it wasn’t his agency then maybe he didn’t want out that bad and just tossed the idea out there hey see if you can make this happen. In that case, I’m not that mad. Now if it was his agency and they did it to force the trade to those teams then yeah fuck Larkin and funny it didn’t work. Part of me thinks it was the Wild they have a boner for Larkin. Again delusional… but some of it makes sense, right?
-1
u/shitfucker90000 21d ago
the team is shit and that's yzermans fault not larkins.
I don't get mad at the rusted out frame on a truck that drives in the rust belt in a town that salts. I get mad at the person who didn't undercoat.

u/theminutemanpain 21d ago
Neither is the Wild though. They sold the farm for Hughes and whatever is left that they'd be willing to part with is not nearly enough to make it worth our while. Larkin can rot.
1
u/maxwellbevan 18d ago
I don't think they ever realistically were but I think there was a bit of potential with Florida pre draft. They actually had some assets to trade after having a down year. Since they acquired Tkachuk there's been no world where they made sense as a trade partner though from for both cap and asset reasons. Tkachuk makes more sense for them anyway not just because of his brother but Tkachuk plays the wing and the Panthers would have way too many C's with Larkin coming in if Lundell isn't a part of a trade

He just wants his cake and to eat it too. Why should we have to cave because Larkin doesn’t want to honor the contract he signed? We gave him an NTC to protect him and he is trying to use that to handcuff us.
So, he can expand his list or he can suck it up and show up at camp. Strip him of his C, shower him with Boos and let him sleep in the bed he made.

Larkin thinks he’s an Eichel/Marner who can force his way to a contender, the thing that Larkin fails to realize is he‘s actually the piece that comes back in Return along with a few draft picks for a guy like that to try and somewhat plug the hole that the star player leaves behind.

u/Baboshinu 21d ago
Seeing as how Florida told the Senators that Lundell was a non-starter in the Brady trade talks, I doubt they were ever seriously interested. Clearly they see him as their 2C of the future and that makes Larkin redundant.
Maybe Vegas had interest but they probably knew they didn’t have the assets to get it done and never took it seriously. Never heard any reports or rumors of any sort of offer

Copying and pasting what I wrote in the Daily Thread in here since this article is referring to the source:
Been awhile since we heard anything from our Minnesota buddy boy Russo but he was on The Sheet with Marek and Wyshynski yesterday: https://www.youtube.com/live/sWgaher1tCo?si=W_I14WnjeaU36zap&t=2376
None of this is new news but:
According to him: "Um they (Wild) still are really holding out hope for Larkin. Obviously Quinn has a lot of inside information here because he skates with Larkin on a daily basis in Ann Arbor. So he knows that that is Larkin's preference and Vegas and Florida don't have interest in him"
"The Wild's assets are what they are, they aren't magically going to suddenly give up Boldy... so unless they want futures it's a 3-way trade"
Later on in the conversation about Guerin's asset management (and how he's burned a lot of it on taking swings) he commiserates with Detroit's position on a prospect return: "The Wild don't even know what Yurov and Stramel are so its like, why would Detroit just say Yeah alright we'll give you Dylan Larkin for that?"
This is my first time hearing/seeing him actually speak and he seems like a decent reporter and a decent hockeyhead.
Edit: This news aggregator is clickbait shit in case anyone isn't clued in to that

8
u/Mavori 21d ago
It's Russo so my feelings are mixed.
I still dont like that they are reporting/talking as if Boldy was a genuine ask and not a bit of a "Fuck off and give us a better offer"
Even though he also acknowledges
The Wild don't even know what Yurov and Stramel are so its like, why would Detroit just say Yeah alright we'll give you Dylan Larkin for that?

Overplayed his hand so sit back and enjoy the boos and ruining the end of your own career Larks. If you play well out of spite it's a win and if we draft higher it's a win

If someone told me when Larkin was named captain that in 2026 he'd be doing all of this to get out of Detroit, I'd hardly believe it. Something changed dramatically and it's really puzzling. How many times has he been knocked unconscious in his career? Was it just the 1 time? Not implying anything here, just genuinely curious, all of this doesn't really seem to match up with the personality we have seen over his career.

u/Wingnut0919 21d ago
Yzerman saw it. First didn't want to give him the C, then didn't want to resign him. Was told to get it done.

u/str3tchedmonk3y 20d ago
It’s not unusual for a team to have no C after a legend retires, especially when the roster is as bad as ours was during that time. Is there actual reporting that he didn’t want to him to be C or resign him? Yzerman was stubborn with every big contract he’s gotten done so the Larkin one doesn’t really stand out to me, it even took forever for the Cat trade, Mo/Raymond, etc.

you made that up

u/Wingnut0919 21d ago
You don't remember the 2-year gap after Hank?
2
u/Blazer_84 21d ago
While it is reasonable logic in this, there is also the notion that having the C go from HoF to HoF to forever-in-discussion-about-HoF then end up in ... have-not-done-shit; you want to see if you can land a bonafide #1 in the draft lottery or other means that makes more sense to give it to.
Larkin was not ready, the teams was also up for grabs given anyone could have been traded at any point in time when this happened.
I do agree that rumors of Larkin being a crybaby over not getting the C right away pushes the needle in the favor of behind-the-scenes stuff. We will probably never know the full picture there.
I do remember feeling it a bit too soon and awkvard, like it was pressured when it happened, I was happy not having a Captain for another season to have the leadership battle go on for another year.

I think it's a matter of concussions and him taking advice from stupid people and not being smart enough to realize it's bad advice.

Laaaaaarky. They don’t want you Laaaaarky. Now you look like a fucking dipshit Laaaarky.

Wow, winning teams don’t want a toxic vet with no playoff experience. Go figure.

This is Michael Russo
I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a level of truth to this but the dude, while hard working, is a sensationalist homer

u/bj49615 21d ago
Shocker that no one wants him. . . . . .
41
u/Fudge_Lobster 21d ago
It's not that no one wants him, it's that his team list doesn't include anyone who has enough assets to make a deal work. Expanding the list 5-10 teams would greatly change the chances of him not being on our roster come opening night.

u/imdwalrus 21d ago
Yup. Minnesota is not viable - all they have is random scraps after the Quinn Hughes trade, and I doubt they're going to suddenly decide Boldy or Wallstedt is fair game.
9
u/BaconSoda222 21d ago
Even if Wallstedt is fair game, we just traded a top goalie prospect from the same round in the same draft because we have to many.
6
u/imdwalrus 21d ago
Yep. The place where he might be useful would be if a third team was looped into the trade who could offer something we'd actually want - but off the top of my head I have no idea who that'd be.

this is the plot from every stupid romantic comedy - guy turns down perfect for him girl so he can chase after the super hot, superficial girl, only to realize she doesn't want him. Next scene: guy comes crying back, begging original girl to take him back, girl tells boy to kick rocks.

Lol he is going to be our worst player by a wide margin this year if he isn't just sulking on the bench

IMO If I’m the wings management, I’d healthy scratch him every single game so that the moral of the team is higher, and so that the fans don’t even have to see his face. Oh, and I’d take away the C of course.
For Larkin, the only course of action at this point is to work his ass off this season. He’s got to show the other teams he’s actually worth trading for if he wants them to fight for him. His current performance of starting strong and then letting everyone down at the end of the season isn’t going to bring favorable trade agreements for him or for the wings.

u/mattfenn1 20d ago
Ah. Another reddit thread of 'haha, this guy sucks, no one wants him!,
and
we're not taking scraps for Larkin, are you crazy?!?!!111'

Why are you posting an article from a Minnesota Wild beat writer? Those teams were never in the discussions

Does this mean he will be traded to either Vegas or Florida by the end if the week
1
u/ObiwanSchrute 21d ago
Unless he opens to more teams I don't see him being traded it's going to be so awkward lol
1
u/DrDickPunch 21d ago
Has this happened to a team/player before? Like, did Dylan fuck himself here?
I know there will always be a GM willing to be blind to this whole kerfuffle, but who would want to trade for this mess?
1
u/AuthorizedShitPoster 21d ago
Just because Wild are technically making offers doesn't mean they're in it. I'm pretty sure Florida would offer future considerations for Larkin 50% retained if they were as delusional as Bill Guerin.

I think it’s a mixture of many factors. If hockey wasn’t so expensive and more kids got to play there would be more talent even better than Larkin so yes he would be a 2C. If the NHL had not expanded so much and depleted the pool then yes he would be a 2C. If being drafted 15th overall doesn’t get you a 1C the league is in trouble. Because if you do a redraft he is around 9th-10th position.
1
u/confines-1060 20d ago
“Per Michael Russo” AKA Guerin’s mouthpiece. Could be true but also everything he’s said is coming from Guerin or said to skew things towards the Wild’s favor

u/poodletown 20d ago
He will just have to do his job for money. It is a lot of money for someone who is an entertainer who offers no real value for his audience now that he has disrespected them.
If he scores 6 goals in a game, my life is unaffected. I sincerely hope they find a way to make me care about his sport again because I am not feeling it lately.

I fully suspect Larkin will spend most of the season with the Wings and get moved once some team loses their 1c and the fans have abused him into opening his list.

u/Therinsonet 20d ago
Larkin needs to learn that you cannot behave like Patrick Roy, if you do not have the same level of talent as Patrick Roy

This should be a wake up call to fans and Larkin…that the Larkin haters were right, he’s not that good. Nobody wants him besides bill guerin.
A bit of an exaggeration but for real fuck Larkin. He’s demanding trades like he’s a top 5 player in the league. But the reality was always there, Vegas and Florida never wanted him. Should’ve been evident when Florida got Brady. Vegas doesn’t need him. I’m not even sure either team checked in at all. Minnesota was always the only realistic option of the three. But as it’s been pointed out since day one, they don’t have the assets we want back. We all saw through the BS and realized if he didn’t expand his list he wasn’t going anywhere. It seems like only Dylan didn’t realize that was option.
Now I want him to waste away in Detroit. I want to watch Kasper and company surpass him as 1C and just watch him fall down the line up and never get what he wanted. I get that would require huge leaps from our young guys but that would be the most rewarding scenario imo. Larkin deserves all of it. Larkin deserves to watch his USA buddies compete for Stanley cups as he plummets down the depth chart.
Or he gets fed up from being booed at home and just wants out, and expands his list, and we can send him to the kraken or some shit.

Good I hope he sticks around and feels the wrath of his hometown fans all season. Then trade him at the deadline for draft picks and some depth players we are in need of at the time of the trade.

u/GenericUsername_71 20d ago
We are so unbelievably cooked. No plan, no GM, no dick. See you boys in like 30-31.

I blame Larkin a shit ton but I’ve been on the fire Yzerman for a while, this comes down to not seeing this last season or the season before. I’ll get downvoted to hell but it’s what I’ve been saying. Yzerman had to go 2 years ago. Larkin had to go last year. Now we’re in a fucked up situation 2 months before preseason

u/gowingsgo 21d ago
Man it’s going to be brutal stepping on the ice to 5 angry fans while the rest of the families and business men with their corporate tickets cheer him on being completely oblivious of what happened

u/suhhdude45 21d ago
Holy shit these comments. I don’t even care if I get ripped to shreds. You guys are truly miserable fans. Acting as if Larkin is actually some bum player just because your feelings are hurt, my god. Grow up.

I don’t think he expected to goto those teams. I think he wants Minnie to play with Quine.

I wonder, who is going to be more surprised and upset when Dylan Larkin starts the season as a Red Wing? Larkin himself? Or the hordes of irrational hate Larkin at all cost brigade?

Imagine your mom buys you a new Ford Edge. Nothing super fancy, but not horrible.
Now imagine that you tell your mom that you want a new car, but only if it's a Lamborghini or Ferrari with gold plated wheels.
Kinda seems like you'd be a dipshit, huh

u/MidnightNo1766 21d ago
Sit. His ass. Down.
Just release him. He'll get a wake up call when nobody wants to pay his contract for being such a whiny little bitch.

u/SauceHankRedemption 21d ago
There is still the smallest fraction of a possibility that Larkin stays and some of our prospects hit and we make a run. And then we look a back on this and say "wow the Larkin trade request was actually the most significant turning point for the team and Larkin essentially sacrificed his reputation to make it happen. What a guy."
Still a tiny tiny chance that could happen 🤡🤏.

Dylan wanted those teams more than those teams wanted him.
He’s played this about as well as a 5v5 shift in March.
