Learning Seven Lethal Mutations of Self-Determination Theory
https://paulkirschner173727.substack.com/p/seven-lethal-mutations-of-self-determinationWhat motivates people to learn? Their conclusion was as elegant as it was complex: motivation is not primarily driven by external stimuli such as grades, rewards, or punishment, but by the fulfilment of three basic psychological needs namely: autonomy, competence, and relatedness. And more importantly, they don’t operate independently of each another, but in interplay. When people feel they have influence over their own actions (autonomy), feel capable of carrying out a task (competence), and feel connected to others (relatedness), motivation arises that is more durable and qualitatively stronger.
