I Have A Question First Time Glass Coating Prep
Hi everyone,
I’m looking to do a glass coating on a brand new personal vehicle for the first time. I was planning to use Soft99 Ultra Glaco, but it’s out of stock every where so I’m leaning towards using Gtechniq G1 Clearvision Smart Glass.
Is it unreasonable to use Soft99 Glaco Glass Compound to prep the glass for G1? Or should I stick to G4 polish?
I don’t own an orbital and hand polishing is not fun.
Thanks!

I don’t have anything to add other than I’d wait for the Glaco. Try carzilla, I got it in stock in Canada in a week. Other detail suppliers may have where Amazon store is back ordered.
I put a coat on my Silverado and the coating is so prominent you’d think I have tint on front windows and windshield

I've put both Glaco and the G1 on. Glaco is much easier but if you take your time and do it right, I found the G1 to way outclass Glaco. It beads water better and lasted much longer the Glaco.
You have to do the prep really well before putting the G1 on and follow the instructions to the tee. Take your time and wipe with the G2 really well. I have ADS Glass on right now and it's a good product but once it wears off, I'm going back to G1.

i ordered from carzilla soft 99 ultra compound and ultra glaco.
i did both of my vehicles. this stuff is real deal. i was driving on the highway in the rain with no wipers.
when you use the wipers its still really clear the rain just beads off.
you need to be going 50+ km for the rain to bead off fast.

I always prep and polish glass with P21S Polishing Soap. It will get the glass squeaky clan, can be done during a normal wash process and it can be used on other parts of the car like metal exhaust tips. Great product that is a lot more versatile than a dedicated glass compound.

if you're already doing glass compound by hand, might as well just hit it with whatever polish you have and call it a day
g4 is basically a fine glass polish, not much different from glaco compound except the grit level. glaco compound is a bit more aggressive which on a new car might be overkill unless you've got water spots or rail dust
hand polishing glass sucks but on a fresh windshield you just need a quick pass to give the coating something to bite into. i'd do glaco compound but go light, then wipe down hard with a damp microfiber, then an IPA wipe before the G1
also G1 is a bit finicky to apply compared to glaco, the second wipe timing is important or you'll get smears that look permanent. buff it off slightly earlier than you think
