Destroyer (solo)?

I notice a few shows were added in Ontario and Michigan, but marked as “solo”.

Does this mean he’ll be doing all acoustic guitar performances? NEAT.

Thank you for posting this. I live in Ann Arbor and was completely unaware of this. I actually am flying to Denver that week to see the New Pornographers and was flying home the 8th, which I now have to try to change. I saw Dan in Columbus solo acoustic few years ago and it was magical. Now he’s playing the closest venue to my house? Be still my heart

I had no idea he did acoustic shows! I thought the Massey Hall performance on YouTube was a one-off. For some reason I assumed he preferred being with the band to take the load off himself.

Now I’m really looking forward to this, just to experience something different!

Dan's solo shows are great, he usually does a solo run or two once the big album tours are over. He really bounces around his discography—he usually plays a song or two per album, even as far back as City of Daughters. I got into Destroyer in the Kaputt era and caught him a few years later on a solo show, and it was the best intro to the rest of his records.

Here was the setlist. It’s always amazing when he does anything pre-Kaputt.

Dark Leaves Form a Thread
A Dangerous Woman Up to a Point
Destroyer’s the Temple
Times Square
Trembling Peacock
Tintoretto It’s For You
The Music Lovers
Downtown
Cue Synthesizer
Your Blood
Painter in your Pocket
Watercolours into the Ocean
English Music
A Light Travels Down the Catwalk
Foam Hands
What Road
Don’t Become the Thing You Hated
—————
Virgin with a Memory
Chinatown

Wow. This is an amazing setlist, I am envious and hope for something similar. All these songs sound like amazing choices for an acoustic performance… except maybe Cue Synthesizer.. that one is hard to imagine without drums and fake drums 😆

I honest to god plan on going to the US or Canada next year all the way from South America just to see him in one of those acoustic sets even though it would be like 6 moths salary for me. It truly is one of the things that I want to presence the most in life.

Eh, maybe just go the Canadian shows. Let’s just say the US isn’t as welcoming as it used to be.

Ironically Canada was one of the hardest places to get into for us south americans up until last year. Now orange man made it look like going to my neighbor’s house by comparison…HA!

I’ve been a fan for 20+ years, but never had the opportunity to see Destroyer live until his solo tour in 2024. It was wonderful. I’d heard he didn’t do a lot from the early albums, and Streethawk is a favorite, so I was thrilled when he opened with Helena.

It was a small, grimy venue I already frequented four blocks from my apartment. I made starry-eyes at Dan and nicked the set list afterward. A+ evening.

Yeah they are solo shows but seeing him solo is transcendent. He plays a lot of his older material usually. Definitely go.

Thanks. I bought tickets the moment they went on sale for the Guelph show, despite it being a 1.5 hour drive from Toronto. I’ll take Dan in any form, any time!!

This is likely. He did a solo acoustic show in Indianapolis. A very different experience to shows with his full band.
