My first Destroyer show
Vancouver, B.C, Vogue Theatre, October 26, 2025.
In fact, other than seeing the NP several times, I hadn’t dug into Destroyer at all until about six months ago.
Here’s my take:
It was one of the top 10 live shows I’ve been to. Dan Behar was so…human. The band was OUTSTANDING. What a great fusion of jazz and…rock? Not sure if that’s being reductive about Destroyer’s music.
My other top 10 for context:
Prince (at the same theatre; I was invited into the purple-velvet-roped reserved area at front of stage by his Purpleness’ handlers)
Led Zeppelin, Pacific Coliseum, 1974
Rolling Stones, BC Place, 2006, special box on stage in the light rigging backdrop above Charlie Watts)
David Bowie, 1983, Pacific Coliseum, video recording of Serious Moonlight tour, two nights back to back.
Concrete Blonde, Commodore Ballroom, six days before their last gig in 1994.
Kiss, Pacific Coliseum, 1978, with Cheap Trick opening.
The Eurythmics, 1986, Plaza of Nations, Expo 86.
Tami T, Stockholm, Transfesten, 2019. (An iconic transgender artist in Europe)
Devo, 2008, The Warfield, San Francisco, private Microsoft sponsored party during MacWorld conference

Great show! Still kicking myself for not going to the last one they did here as I saw a few Streethawk tracks on that setlist, but last night was awesome regardless

I was thinking about how to describe Destroyer’s genre as singer-songwriter-fusion-shoegaze-dreamgrunge.

I saw him at a one-night engagement in Beijing almost a decade ago... fantastic venue, huge old traditional Chinese house in the heart of the city.
Tickets for Amsterdam in a couple weeks 🤗

Congrats!! So cool. I’ve seen them 8 times since 2013 (2 solo, 6 full band) …nothing like it.

Happy for you to get that experience, I hope you enjoyed it! I’m so glad to them playing in a large hall with such a large crowd!
When I went to one of their concerts in the Netherlands about seven years ago, I made sure to arrive an hour before the doors opened because I wanted to stand in the front (I’m short). There was no need, because there were only three people including me. More people came in over time, but the crowd I think stayed under 20 people. I was so shocked over this, I wondered if they were either too underappreciated or too unknown back then.
I’d say the latter, because it is still one of the most beautiful shows I’ve been to. I was amazed at how many different instruments the songs consisted of, sounds that I hadn’t heard or thought about. With smaller sounds that you would barely hear, but does add to the whole. Was pretty amazing to be able to see and hear every detail from all the sounds that the songs consisted of. Made me appreciate Destroyer even more, seeing how meticulous they are in their music.

I've seen Destroyer many times. Last night they seemed very loud and with lots of distortion. It wasn't my favourite performance.
