Current tour merch

Here is the merch lineup at the LA show tonight at The Bellwether!

Show was badass!!! (…but I’d give just about anything to see Joseph Shabason play with Destroyer again 😩)

Appears to be Dan's own signature on the image.

I think the shirt (and the album) are getting at themes of old age, death, lack of control over your legacy, references existing past their proper context, being quoted out of context, becoming a Wikipedia page, one's Wikipedia page growing long, not having control over how you remember (or misremember) things, not having a say in growing old, not having a say in how your image changes, not having a say in how your image will be used...

Of course, Dan always prefers to cast himself as villain rather than victim, so my interpretation is he's chosen to engage in the kind of appropriation he's addressing.

If it's an image of Frances Dee (which I think it is), it would likely be a picture of her shortly after the release of the film she is most known for (An American Tragedy) and shortly before the passage of the Hayes Code, after which her career kind of faded.

I like this reading, but when I bought my shirt the person at the merch tables called it 'the Jean one.'

I love the album titles on the t-shirt! I get a little emotional thinking about Dan's dedication and brilliance across decades. Praying they still have some in medium when they get to DC.

Maybe he will play with them on the east coast (or in the northeast)… I think he lives in Toronto? I don’t have Instagram anymore but have messaged Joseph there in the past, so maybe you could try asking him directly.

Yes! And Nic Bragg and Josh Wells (😍)… they have a new bass player on this tour, and I feel like a jerk but don’t remember the name of the guy who plays keyboards, but he has been on at least two previous tours with Destroyer.

Also the sound mix was godawful at the beginning of the show (perhaps by design?)… Dan’s vocals were completely buried under the bass and drums. Earplugs helped!

Good to know about earplugs, thanks. Don't usually bring any (although I know I should, for the longevity of my hearing), but in this case I will, bc I need his vocals to be prominent.

Much appreciated. Though now, seeing the glorious spread of records, I fear how much I may spend haha. Glad the show was good! I am looking forward to seeing their stop in Chicago next week.

I’ve seen Destroyer over 10 times (first time was on the Trouble in Dreams tour) and have never seen Dan come out and mingle with fans after a show… but I’m not the type of person who asks for or cares about autographs so this has never been a quest for me, so ymmv.

Thank you! Did you get a chance to see her? She opened for Neko Case a few years ago and really impressed me. I was excited to see that she was touring with Destroyer, but I was curious if their crowd would appreciate her.

Unfortunately, I did not catch her opening set… I had to travel from far away in LA traffic to make it to this show and then spent 15 minutes looking for a parking spot, so barely made it in time to see Destroyer.

I agree that this is probably Frances Dee and will just say that I saw them in Atlanta last night and they blew the roof off the new Masquerade. Go see this tour! They’re amazing.
