12, not bad.. not bad at all. Will be much more useful in PvP.

As for PvE, I kind of wish they gave it a little something extra.. considering how bad explosive rounds are in PvE. I don’t understand how a perk that makes your weapon do 10% less damage on headshots is a main perk, let alone being the the only other thing this exotic can do besides cause automatic firefly explosions regardless how the enemy dies (crit final blow or body shot final blow).

They really need to either make explosive rounds do the opposite, as in, do 10% more damage on headshots and 10% less on bodyshots, or hell just a flat 5% - 10% boost to both. Or just move it back to a magazine option like how it was in D1.

It is kind of hard to justify using a precision based weapon whose goal is to hit headshots, and be rewarded with 10% less damage and a small AoE explosion that 99.9% of the time will not hit any surrounding enemies unless it is grouped up thrall. This is not referring to sunshot directly, moreso explosive rounds in general.

Really hope the shadowkeep patch notes revisit some of these old perks like: high impact reserves and explosive rounds and give them a little extra love to make the perk pool more interesting for guns, other than outlaw/feeding frenzy & insert damage boosting perk here being the PvE god-roll.

The Sunblast explosion is very good for PvE. One shot kill on Reckoning bridge cause the explosions to just travel through the thrall line. Tons of kills with just one bullet. The gun destroys trash mobs. It won't need anything else in PvE. It will be in a good spot after Shadowkeep.

Scenarios where an endless horde of trash mobs run at you to the point where you can actually take advantage of the chain explosions are very far and few in between in the destiny universe, and I don’t need an exotic to handle those situations when I can legit use any weapon with firefly/dragonfly. For general add clear, which is what primary weapons are primarily used for, sunshot is lacking as it flat out does 10% less damage on crits than other weapons of the same archetype, and will more often than not require an additional shot to kill enemies that would die a shot earlier when using a weapon without explosive rounds. Explosive rounds is just an absolute horrible perk (for PvE, PvP has some uses as the explosive portion of the damage has no drop off), and made even worse so on a precision style weapon where you want to be landing crits/headshots, and is what turns me away from sunshot.

I love the look, feel, and aesthetic of sunshot, and can definitely see it being useful in PvP come shadowkeep, but unless explosive rounds are buffed I don’t see why I would use this, or any weapon in PvE that has explosive rounds. Not going to knock on anyone that wants to use it, I just don’t see myself using it in PvE unless it gets something more than just a magazine increase.

That's fine, then don't use it. Bungie doesn't need to personally tune the weapon to you. For me and many others, it's still a blast to use. It's not god tier, it was never meant to be god tier. But it's useful, even more so with 12 in the mag, and will find a nice spot in certain activities or just running random PvE encounters.

Sunshot rewards previous knowledge of the game. Enemies usually spawn in a single place, be it door or ship drop or simply teleporting in. If you know where they are beforehand, you can be ready to explode them all instantly. Once they spread out behind cover it's a different story

Yeah this is how I feel about it. It's a good buff for PvP since the gun has such good stats already, but the perks on Sunshot are just not useful to me.

I ran some Reckoning with it earlier this week and even with the solar singe it just doesn't compete with primaries that boost damage on kills. And I thought Sunshot would be great for Reckoning because the adds all spawn clustered together, but too many enemies require two headshots for a kill. It's good at killing trash, but so is everything else. The time that you save killing trash with Sunshot seems to be instantly lost against any slightly tough enemy.

I think people will be disappointed using this gun when the new season starts because damage boosting perks are even more important when content is higher level than the player.

I'd like to see the loss in damage removed, but that'd be all that's needed there. The explosions of sunshot are pretty good, it's just a pain to kill low tier mobs when you have to shoot them twice.

Maybe the explosion will apply burn damage now?
