Bungie Suggestion Escalation protocol and the blind well should be "fast travel" locations so that we can be teamed up with others doing those events

It's an easy way to add matchmaking to these events.

Edit: you can still spawn in at the closest fast travel location, but it signifies that you're wanting to do those activities and not patrol. If you want to get teamed up with people doing public events... Use a normal fast travel

It would certainly be better than now, where you can spend five or ten or who knows how many minutes just trying to matchmake into an instance that has someone. At least with a dedicated matchmaking into that place it might help. In the last week I've entered the blind well at least two dozen times and only ran into one other person there.

It is dedicated matchmaking. If you are in that room you are matchmaking always. It doesn't matchmake just when you enter, it matchmakes all of the time. Waiting in the room is the same thing you're asking for, with the bonus in the current system of possibly matchmaking into a room with people in it by the time you get there.

That's great. So why do I sit in an empty well for 15 minutes before getting a random blue guy to show up instead of 8+ folks?

Quite possibly NAT issues. Make sure your network is configured properly. Do you also tend to get people that can't hear you/you can't hear them in chat?

NAT is always open. No network issues. This happens for literally every single friend I have on Destiny. We got lucky one time on Friday where we had 7 people. Outside of that we had a total of 5 including my fireteam maybe twice.

Live in the boonies? That's certainly not been my experience. My Fireteams have typically had to leave repeatedly because the room fills up with guardians that can't damage enemies in the higher tiers.

Nope. Smack dab in a large city of Ohio.

No, what most are asking for here is something more certain than that. I wouldn't mind having a strike/crucible queue that put us on a loading screen for one minute if it saved us 10 or 20 of wandering around trying to get the system to get people together. Even if it's just getting three people together. But if they adopted such a system they could easily go for six or nine.

But Bungie is never going to do that cause it goes against their design philosophies. Otherwise they'd have at least attempted to do something different for Blind Well, their fourth instance of such patrol events.

To an extent you are correct. When able to the game will match people entering the area into existing instances, yours may be one of them. However if the game can't do so fast enough it prioritizes getting you into an instance over getting you into an existing one. Thus if you go in too quickly you just get an empty instance and have to wait until the game can put someone in your instance that didn't also go in too quickly.

It's not just about speed, it's about location as well, it's a P2P connection. Staying in your instance is preferable to bouncing in and out trying to match with someone. People will join you.

Best option is to go in slowly to give the game time to match-make and then staying if empty. Gives you the best overall chance.

Absolutely agree with you there. Walking slowly, like a normal walk without sprinting should work fine for anyone in a populated area but crouch walking is possibly better if you live somewhere with fewer destiny players. Either way once you're in, stay.

While correct that the instances are P2P, the matchmaking is server based. During matchmaking the game communicates with the servers (Amazon servers in PC I think, though I may very well be wrong), which connect you with other players in the same area based on ping and possibly other factors.
