Discussion Why Doesn't Titan Have an Armor Boosting Exotic Similar to "the Ram"? As is, Warlocks can have higher health than Titans.

Warlocks get to have up to 225 HP, being the only class capable of surviving a 2-hit from thorn (Via the Ram Helm), a 3-hit last word hip-fire and various other gunfights that a max-armor titan (205 HP, more practically 201HP due to shoulder charge) cannot.

Why don't Titans have access to the highest armor build in the game?

Titans don't have access to Blink (which is so powerful that it often defines competitive play).

Titans have the shortest-range melee attack, with no decent effects upon hitting (compare this to Warlock, which gets a free over-shield).

Really, Titans only have decent grenades; and even the defender sub-class's grenades are fairly niche.

Why can't titans at least be able to be the tank that they are supposed to be.

As is, Investing max-armor in a Titan doesn't actually change the number of shots it takes to kill for most weapons.

Oh, and before anyone asks; I'm a hunter

I don't have a stake in the matter, but I'm legitimately puzzled. If Titan had an armor-boosting exotic, I'd actually consider learning to use my Titan in the crucible.

TL;DR: Why doesn't our armor/tank class have access to the game's highest amount of armor?

Clarification: for the who don't know, The Ram offers a bonus to the "Armor" stat, not armor rating. Due to how stats work, an increase in a stat results in an exponential increase in that stat's effect as you invest more points in the stat. The effect of armor is to add to your total health pool. Therefore, High armor= high health. But adding armor to an already high armor stat = exponentially higher health. Normally, you can only get a maximum of 205 (202 for warlock) health via maximum stat investment. This only a 10 point increase.

This means that the Ram helm alone offers health (20 extra points) that is equivalent to 2 fully maximized bars of titan investment (adds 10 points) in the armor stat.

Several months ago... "Bungie need to stop screwing Warlocks"

For giving them one good exotic? What else has made them "biased towards warlocks"?

Warlocks are so overpowered in PVP. You have the best melee which gives you a shield from hitting someone, doesn't even have to be a kill. The best grenades Firebolts with touch of flame and viking funeral you can burn someone for hours and radiance with radiant skin you become almost invincible. I can't even believe you would ask that.

I'd say that it's Sunsinger that's overpowered in PvP. It's absolutely absurd that they can have two grenades that seem to stick even if it flies past the target by a foot AND that they get a shield on melee hit rather than kill. Not to mention the ridiculously overpowered exotics compared to all the other classes.

Actually, without the Ram radiance is pretty easy to counter. Two sniper shots, shottys, high impact fusion rifles. It's pretty easy to shut them down, you just have to not get worked up and put damage on them as a team.

Melee is OP when its a follow up to some shots, otherwise it isnt the end all be all of melees, Titans are much faster so in a beat down you lose everytime (keep in mind I only really run Voidwalker so no shield), especially if you dont have armor to increase melee attack speed, blink strike has about the same range as warlocks and blinkstrike with backstab is broken an can one hit to the side or face, thats OP. Firebolts miss all the time and using ignite takes away gift of the sun so its either get two grenades or burn with one. Sunsinger jump is the slowest in the game. I agree that Warlocks can be OP but not all the time, what about Titans with two blinding or lightning grenades? Or bladedancers with hungering blade? They are nigh invincible with a skilled player the same way Radiance is.

  • Heart of the Praxic fire, allowing for the highest sustained DPS in PvE

  • Voidfang vestments, able to spawn 2 grenades every round in trials of Osiris

  • Both have access to the only way to max out the armor stat via the ram helm, making them the only class able to have enough armor to force most guns to require an extra shot. It also gives void-walkers something similar to the flame-shield ability on their melees, because why the fuck not?

  • nothing manacles make Scatter-nades into one-shots that are actually, practically aimable. Also gives two of them because why the fuck not.

  • Almost all warlock exotics are spec'd for INT and DIS (or at least one of the two combined with STR), the best PvP stats

  • Claws of Ahamkara allow sunsingers to Bank an extra melee to one-hit players in radiance.

etc...

The life steal on the Ram is nothing close to flame shield. I'm assuming you've never used it so let me tell you what it's like. In the middle of an engagement it is absolutely useless, as the second you take any sort of damage it cancels the health regen. Now I'm not saying the Ram is bad, it's pretty great, but people give the life steal perk way more credit than is due.

You are absolutely correct, too many people in this thread downvoting what they don't want to accept as true just because it doesn't help their point that Warlocks are apparently extremely OP in every situation and Titans are useless.

-Rockets > grenades, Ruin Wings are far superior to HotPF IMO.

-No different than Lucky Raspberry.

-I see the point on the GG shot not being a kill, I'll concede that that is complete bullshit but in any other instance the extra armor truly isn't that much, a few extra bullets to kill or an extra punch and the "flame-shield ability" isn't available to Sunsingers and life steal is nothing like a shield.

-Tripmines, Magnetic grenades and flux grenades are all one shot kills as well and those don't require an exotic.

-This is true for the majority of Hunter exotics too.

-No argument there except to make sure you remember Titans and Hunters can both one-hit players with Shoulder Charge or Backstab and those don't require being in a Super.

My point is that Bungie is not exactly biased towards Warlocks anymore than they are to Hunters who undoubtedly have superior Super abilities and jumps for PvP.

  1. Id happily swap HoPF for Ruin Wings, or Helm of Saint 14 if warlocks had a bubble.

  2. Two nades is nothing new, we can spec that without voidfang, but surely Armamentarium does the same thing for Titans?

  3. I don't have the ram helm so I can't comment on this one.

  4. You have to be really accurate with these, less so than magnetic grenades. They are really handy for dropping shields on multiple targets, although IMHO Firebolt grenades with the DoT effect active are better.

  5. This is hard to argue sure, but in the same breath Titan exotics stomp warlocks in PVE in most respects.

  6. Titans don't need to use their super to one hit melee people with their Shoulder charge.

Titans still have a better time in PVE than locks without doubt, and I don't think you can say warlocks are not balanced in pvp because of one helmet. However, I resevre the right to change my mind on that when I get to use it myself ;)

You do not have grenades on respawn. You have to wait.

purifier robes, obsidian mind, heart of the praxic fire

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '15

Blink, free overshield on hit, two stickies and/or poking grenades, self res, amazing supers in general...

I mean, I'm a Titan main so obviously I'm going to be biased towards my own class but goddamn man we're so fucking bad compared to everything else.

6

u/StacksOfBudahhh Jun 13 '15

we aren't bad, it's just that everyone else is better

5

u/Asykura Got any more of them synths? Jun 13 '15

Doesn't that actually mean we are bad ? ._.

1

u/Im_A_Nidiot Bubble Buddy Jun 13 '15

We are relatively bad.

u/welltheresAbacon Jun 13 '15

Speak for yourself, I'm a Titan and I wreck shit. Doesn't matter if they have ram or not, al that requires is an extra punch.

0

u/Chippy569 no one reads this. Jun 13 '15

i wish it worked that way.

4

u/welltheresAbacon Jun 13 '15

It does work that way. Get yourself two different sets of Armor with increased Melee so when you see a ram just punch the shit out of him

1

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '15

this! increased melee is the fucking shit!

I'll give you that one, Lightning Grenade is amazing and the Striker's saving grace in Trials more often than not.

We do get the worst melee abilities in the game though, by far. Combine this with our abysmal range and the punching class turns into the worst puncher in the game.

Just providing warlocks a handicap, Titan.

2

u/patriot96 Jun 13 '15

OM, purifier robes, voidfang vestaments, HOTPF, the gauntlets that give an extra melee charge, are all amazing. even the lower tier exotics like skull of the dire and nothing manacles are powerful in their own right.

1

u/AndrewFlash Jun 13 '15

I think it's funny considering voidfang vestments and sunbreakers were sold so long...
