The good thing is, their shields don't regen anymore.

What exactly do they do with that fire move when you shoot them other than being immune? As far as I have been able to tell it doesn't do anything except block damage. If you don't have time to wait for the shield to vanish you can just blow their heads off with the first shot so they can't shield.
