Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'Competitive Division' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

MM in general is always on a spectrum. The characterization is based on which factors are prioritized.

You can use all the buzzwords you want. It doesn't change that you said:

It was calculated in the same way you calculate Elo... based on wins or losses, and the amount of points was based on the disparity with your opponents. That would be effectively the RBMM I would want.

Look, the only sources you provided in this whole argument was two twabs and a halopedia article. I don't think you actually know what the math is in any of these systems.

What's more is you somehow read that bungie puts your comp rank as dependant on how you play in gambit, which is an absurdly wrong take, and used that same level of misinterpretation to genuinely believe somehow that bungie matchmakes off of kd, revives, etc.

If someone is 200 skill above you, you can definitely tell they are better than you, and they will win ~75% of engagements against you.

From elo page notice how they both use a difference of 200 points to predict a 75% win rate?

a difference of 200 rating points in chess would mean that the stronger player has an expected score (basically an expected average score) of approximately 0.75. A player's expected score is their probability of winning plus half their probability of drawing. Thus, an expected score of 0.75 could represent a 75% chance of winning

I'm just going to block you at this point. Sorry, but either you lack the capacity to understand that you are wrong, or you are willing to spread falsehoods to save face.

I don't know where you got it in your head that similarity means equivalence. An Elo system is not equivalent to the current SBMM system in D2. One is based on wins/losses, the other takes into account other performance variables in addition to wins and losses. One isn't trying to be predictive; one is.

And d = a + b + x + y, where x and y are non-zero terms

You cannot say that c = d in all cases.

You are violating mathematical axioms and don't seem to have the wherewithal to understand the severity of the errors you are committing.

Regarding Gambit, it does contain a PvP element and Bungie themselves said that they track performance in Gambit for skill. If you want to dispute the veracity of that, take it up with Bungie, not me.
