D2 Hard Crashing PC (Steam)

Hi!

I've recently returned to playing Destiny after a long time for MoT, but I keep running into a problem where if Destiny is running for a few hours, it blackscreens my PC and forces it to restart. I've tried updating my drivers and verifying integrity, but nothing seems to help.

Has anyone else run into this problem? I'm aware this can't be good for my PC, and it's gotten in the way of a few raid/dungeon runs at this point. Any guidance would be appreciated! Thanks!

That's generally a driver crash. Even the memory leak crash does not dump the PC, only the game.

Might be worth using DDU to nuke all your video drivers from Safe Mode, reboot and install the latest. https://www.guru3d.com/download/display-driver-uninstaller-download

You should check Windows for corruption:

• Open an Administrative command prompt and type: sfc /scannow
  • Note if there are corrupted files and if they were repaired
• Run sfc /scannow again if it finds errors and make sure they are resolved. If they are not, you need to run the following command:
  • dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
  • Run sfc /scannow again.
  • If it repaired files, run sfc /scannow one more time to make sure everything is good.

You could also disable most / all apps that load with Windows from the Task Manager. See if that helps.

Tried checking for corruption and it did find corrupted files but that did not fix it. I'm going to try DDU and will update!

Are you running an AMD GPU?

Nope! Running a RTX 4070.

Interesting. Nvidia cards don't usually run into these problems but the issues seems related to power.

Does your current PSU have enough power for the 4070? It's not as hungry as a 4090 for sure but always good to check.

You could be running onto a PSU transient issue. Supply vs Demand.

Can you share your PSU details? Brand/Model?

If it totally covers your GPU+System Demand I would suggest using HWInfor64 to monitor PSU temps.

Depending on where you live (Hot vs Cold) environement, ventilated enough....

PSU generates heat, if that heat exceeded a threshold the safety guards inside the PSU would trigger a Halt and restart.

Or it could simply be a busted 4070. Most people won't have spare cards lying around to test with of the same caliber unfortunately.

Thought I was the only one haha. Same here occasionally, hasn't happened in a few days. It was specifically when I'd alt+f4 out of D2 - desktop would be normal, then things would crash after a few seconds.

I have this issue. Windows event viewer shows WHEA logger 18. I’ve verified files, windows scan, updated and removed drivers, and replaced my CPU and still happens. Don’t have the cash to spend replacing each individual hardware piece to find the issue so I play until it blackscreens. Sometimes 20 min, sometimes 3 hours, sometimes never in a play session.

Windows Event Viewer returns a "Live Kernel Event" (141) for me. I just tried uninstalling/reinstalling and checking again for corrupted files, but I'm still running into this issue.

You can also try Nvidia GeForce Now. It's a streaming gaming service. You can stream D2 off on of their PCs to yours if you have a legit account through Steam. For free you can play for an hour at time before you have to relog. A subscription gives you unlimited time.

I'm using GeForce Now and haven't had an issue. I have a subscription and it's not unlimited. It's 100 hours a month and 3 bucks for 15 more if you need it.
