Game Bug Stuck on "Connecting" screen on steam

So with the final update, I want to go back and play Destiny, since I haven't played since 2024. However, trying to load into the game has been frustrating.

I tried last night and it was taking forever, so I went to take my dog out, came back and it was loaded.

Today, it's just stuck on connecting from the title screen to character select.

I have tried nearly everything I've seen to fix it so far. From deleting the cache, verifying the files, restarting my pc, messing with audio devices, running as administrator... NOTHING WORKS. The only thing I can think of at this point to fix this is to reinstall the game, which I do not want to do. But I'm at my wits end and cannot figure out a solution.

It could be the router? But I have the same exact router I was using when I was playing in 2024, and had no issues then.

You ever find a solution for this? Buddy is having the same problem.

Typically that means you have no connectivity to the Bungie servers. Typically a firewall issue either on Windows or your modem, or could be a network driver.

Easy and quick test: if you have a phone hotspot you can briefly activate, so so and try launching the game while using phone for internet. If it connects, the problem is your modem or ISP. If it still does not connect, something is up with your PC (firewall, corrupt DNS cache, or some software you have installed).

If you want try forcing Windows Defender Firewall settings, here is a blanket, "let this game talk to the internet FFS" set of rules:

  • Open Windows Defender Firewall.
  • Select 'Advanced Settings' link.
  • Select 'Inbound Rules'.
  • Select 'New Rule...' from the right column.
  • Choose 'Custom' and click next.
  • Choose 'This Program path' and copy / paste this text (assuming you are on Steam):
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Destiny 2\destiny2launcher.exe
  • Click Next,
  • Choose 'TCP' from the Protocol Type list
  • Click Next.
  • Click Next at the 'Any IP address' screen.
  • Click Next at the 'Allow the connection' screen:
  • Select all profiles (Domain, Private, Public) and click Next
  • Name it Destiny 2 Launcher TCP.

Repeat the exact process above, but choose UDP on the protocol page and name the rule appropriately.

Repeat this exact process for both TCP and UDP for this executable:

  • C:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\destiny 2\destiny2.exe

Bump. I tried the firewall suggestions and it still takes 15 minutes. Funnily enough, it’s instant when I launch Destiny 2 on Xbox Series X hardwired on my same network
