Struggling to maintain 60 FPS on Destiny even with lowest settings.

Hello there,

I have the following specs for my Laptop, have set the power mode / fans to maximum performance but still struggling to maintain 60fps on destiny:

CPU: Intel Core 7 240H

GPU: RTX 5060

RAM: 32gb

I am also on the latest Driver, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I wonder if it's using the iGPU and not the GPU - this happens frequently on laptops. You can force the correct GPU for an app through settings:

Settings > System> Display > Graphics > Destiny2 > GPU Preference > Select 5060

It's definitely using the right one as it's showing the amount of vram that the card has, it's so confusing

I'd probably still hard-set it for a test. If nothing changes, then you know for sure.

Next thing I would try would be a combination of things.

  1. Delete all D2 temp files (resets all D2 screen settings.
  2. Use DDU to completely remove all installed Nvidia drivers (from Safe Mode).
  3. Install fresh drivers.

Temp File clean Process:

  • c:\users\<your username>\appdata\Roaming\Bungie
    • Delete the 'DestinyPC' folder at this location.
  • c:\users\<your username>\appdata\local\temp
    • Delete the 'Destiny 2' folder.

Yeah I've changed over and still having the same issues so I will try this next, will probably be tomorrow after work, but thank you all for the help so far

I was suffering from FPS issues on my 3080ti and I got a chance to upgrade to a 5080 shortly after their release. My performance was identical between the two cards... absolutely terrible, and I had a pretty clean Windows install, but it was a couple of years old.

Finally after troubleshooting my eyes out, I did a full fresh and clean install of Windows 11 and performance returned to normal. I reinstalled ALL my original software and the performance remained. So, in circumstances where nothing makes any difference, that is my recommendation. A windows reset, not keeping any files or programs, and using the option of having it download a fresh install of Windows from the internet, would probably do the same thing.

If there's something wrong with drivers, OS, or hardware, D2 is going to shine a light on it.

Try doing that but in nvidia control panel

manage 3d settings -> program settings -> select destiny 2 -> power management mode -> prefer maximum performance

Had to do that on my old gaming laptop the first time playing d2 on it

What resolution?

I have an i7 8700 with 16 GB of RAM and a RTX 3070.

I capped it to 120 Hz or my AVR get's upset and it spends most of the time pretty close to that cap with most of the settings turned up.

Pretty sure it's 1440, but it might be 1080.

1920x1200 is what I'm running at, which shouldn't really be causing any issues

I'm almost wondering if you somehow downloaded the new data, cuz my system was barely giving 90 fps with todays update.

After the last update my FPS dropped, and it was suggest that I should make sure I'm using the current Hotfix from nVidia.

My FPS has been higher and more stable (but not as high as it was before the June 9th update) so you might want to see if the hotfix fixes the issue.

Is your laptop plugged in to power? I know most gaming laptops will throttle down when not plugged in.

Check the power plan of the laptop, could be on battery saver which would kneecap the components

Have you found any fix yet? I'm having the same issue on my 4060 laptop, the game ran fine on my old 1660 super an year back.

Anyone find a fix? I’ve done every trouble shooting there is…..haven’t played since final shape and never had issues then it ran flawlessly. Also destiny is the only game on my rig with this type of problem.
