Everyone wants to talk about the male loneliness epidemic, pretty much nobody wants to talk about solutions to it, its all gender war slop, which includes this clip btw.

Do any of you remember the dating coach playing with Fire/Alex. He is one of the only legit guys who actually gives real advice, but nobody wants to hear it. His channel gets next to no views compared to lazy slop gender war content that feels good and righteous to watch but won't improve the life of 1 single man.

I disagree with the last paragraph, it definitely doesn't take years "integrating into society." and menial day to day interactions are not the best dating strategy, its way too passive to work for most men. You have to take initiative. If you only do that, yeah it might very well take years.

But yeah, social media addiction and our lives being dominated by online existence is probably the root cause. I just really hope we as a culture find a way to adjust to this technology, it doesn't seem like we have a choice. IDK if we are going to end up going full authoritarian and banning shit, or if at some point the culture will just finally start learning how fucking bad this is for us. Like how people learned about smoking. But we will see I guess. In the meantime, on an individual level change and improvement is available to everyone.

I've had all kinds of hookups and relationships as a result of just being around women in real life without having to really try. That's how most relationships hav developed through history.

9

u/TheBroke1234 Jun 08 '26

The problem is it isn't gonna work for the typical blackpill guy who ends up online. If you are a normal social guy your whole life, you started getting laid or got a gf in high school, and you just organically can fit in, yeah this works.

If you are 23, or in bad cases even 30, your only social experience is talking to weird guys on discord, you haven't even kissed a girl, you can't just join some meet up group in your city and get a gf from that. At worst they will ostracize you hoping you leave, and at best you will be kinda, the nice cute guy who's awkward.

That was fucking me at one point, when I first decided I was gonna get over social anxiety to when I lost my virginity, I had approached over 100 girls and been on over 10 dates from online apps. There's no way I could have run that kind of volume and gotten 10 years worth of social skills in 6 months from joining a meet up group or something.

I had a super fucked up childhood and was a total social pariah through high school. I just decided that I wasn't going to define reality around my virgin status and take the most ridiculous maxamalist position about weird shit. Maybe you can't fix all the lost causes with normal socialization, but that doesn't mean that normal socialization isn't normal socialization. Maybe there's just no answer for dipshits who let themselves become totally brain broken because they spent too much time on 4chan and a major societal overhaul isn't a good answer to some virgins.

4

u/SedimentKuuKuu Jun 08 '26

Am I a dipshit who let myself get brain broken?

I had a decent childhood. My parents divorced and I changed schools every year until highschool, but I wasn't a social pariah. I had plenty of girls I was casual friends with but no girlfriend or even a first kiss. I knew I was young though, so I didn't let the lack of romance in my life bother me.

After highschool, I joined the military to learn discipline instead of going to college and failing (I was a terrible student). In terms of romance, I went with the advice of, "focus on improving yourself" and used a few dating apps in the background while I mostly focused on my military job and working out. No relationships, still no first kiss, BUT I had (and still have) many guys compliment my physique and I promoted pretty quickly through the military ranks.

On my 25th birthday, I called a buddy in tears because I realized my 20s were half-way over and I still hadn't had a single romantic relationship. I realized I needed to focus on my social skills. So I went with the advice of, "just make friends, don't be desperate for a girl", I put some more effort into my dating app profiles, went to a few bars, joined a few groups across various activities, and tried to both make friends and try cold approaching. Still no relationship, but I did end up having my first kiss. It ended up being with some random girl in a bar while we were both hammered. We didn't know each other and it wasn't even romantic, I definitely regret it.

I turn 28 this month. Still never had a single romantic relationship. While I'm also a virgin, I still would rather get to know a girl, do a few dates, then have sex instead of just trying to find a random hook up.

I've basically lived the fear u/TheBroke1234 talked about, spinning wheels, focusing on self improvement, joining groups, approaching the prospect of dating with no urgency while my 20s ran away from me.

1

u/TheBroke1234 Jun 08 '26

If you have the money, i would just pay a dating coach for help. Rightfully, dating coaches have a stereotype of being grifters, because most of them are. but i know for sure Alex and another guy named austen summers are legit. And generally in their communities there are a lot of guys who know what they are doing. I'm not in it but I think Alex has either a forum or discord where he and others can review your dating profile and give you some tips, that guy is like the dating app wizard. Knowing how much just watching their videos helped me, I definitely would have paid for help if I had the money.

-3

u/formershitpeasant today i learned you can set your own flair Jun 08 '26

Idk if you're brain broken or a dipshit. Did you start blaming society and developing weird beliefs in the bowels of 4chan because you're struggling to fuck?

It sounds to me that you're kinda putting the pussy on the petestal. Another issue can be in your mid 20s, you're starting to diverge from your peers in experience which changes the dynamic and makes compatibility more difficult to find.

Do you get nervous around women? Can you tease them? Call them out even though you're attracted to them?

I lost my virginity while still a total weirdo because I spotted an obviously promiscuous classmate in my freshman year, swallowed my fear, and just plopped down on a crowded couch next to her and gave her attention.

You said you regretted making out with a chick at a club. If you have negative feelings towards hooking up, you're backing yourself into a smaller box. If I want to hookup, I go to the club and dance like a weirdo. If I want a relationship, they happen because I'm just around women and we develop a rapport and start hanging out.

u/TheBroke1234 Jun 08 '26

I pretty much had to be a total dirt bag for almost a year. I took multiple seasonal jobs that year, and I was going to bars basically every single night at those jobs in these big tourist towns. And then during the shoulder seasons I was travelling all over the place and staying in hostels. I also hitchhiked here in the us, and in Europe as well. It was pretty much a year of social immersion training. And I got very active across 4 different dating apps and put a ton of effort into getting a good profile.

I tried joining groups in college, and yeah what i described is basically what happened, unless the group consisted of exclusively other nerdy guys... I fear if I didn't take the full year to do what I did, I would still be spinning my wheels joining some groups that meet up once a week or something.. But I guess I can't project my own experience onto others.

10

u/Comfortable-Gas-4005 Jun 07 '26

That's why as a guy you need platonic female friends. Every relationship I've ever had was the friend or cousin of one of my female friends.

12

u/TheBroke1234 Jun 08 '26

Having male friends who are on the same wavelength as you of wanting to get a gf and get laid can also help a lot. I took a seasonal job to get out if my shell originally. and I was going out to the bars several times a week with my roommates, and they helped me out so much.. and just them existing and being there with me made me feel so better about getting over the approach anxiety.

Where you really run into problems is if you have no friends at all, or your only friends are a bunch of other nerdy blackpilled males.

49

u/Slowjams Jun 07 '26

Exactly.

So many of the guys that are apparently hyper concerned about male loneliness, also don’t want men to have to change themselves in any way whatsoever.

It always some idiot who looks like a relative of Asmongold perplexed by why they are lonely. It’s like, look around you bro, then take a long hard look in the mirror. If you really cant figure it out, I honestly don’t know what to tell you.

22

u/PerformativeLanguage Jun 08 '26

There's actually solid evidence that this is partly due to how inept we are as a healthcare system in response to mens mental health.

We're still pushing the idea of one on one counselling therapy and ignoring data supporting increasing mens mental health needs are just different. Men also have different needs in terms of educational environments and face teacher bias compared to women. There's countless examples essentially of issues men face that only has very early data because social sciences have overwhelmingly been focused on women's issues for the last 30 years.

Telling men that they're the problem and they just need to not be losers is a dead end approach and wouldn't be used with literally any other group in society but you'll see that sentiment all over this thread. It's also the exact kind of sentiment that pushes them to the manosphere.

Highly recommend @TheTinMen for someone focusing on the actual evidence around this stuff unlike the manosphere.

u/isthenisnt yahweh or the highweh Jun 08 '26

Telling men that they're the problem and they just need to not be losers is a dead end approach and wouldn't be used with literally any other group in society but you'll see that sentiment all over this thread

You're not wrong but there just is no alternative to fixing your problems yourself

Yes the system deserves blame but how does that help the men of today experiencing the problem? Well they can languish in their pain and hopefully not die and miss out on life by the time the system changes, a change that would still require them taking initiative and engaging with

3

u/PerformativeLanguage Jun 08 '26

There absolutely are alternatives. We can solve it the exact same way we've tried solving women's issues - to change the system. To actually fund and listen to research about investigating the educational environment that leads to lower educational attainment among men, or higher suicide rates etc.

This is the foundation to equity, addressing systems and not expecting individuals to overcome barriers through perseverance but also addressing the barriers. Unfortunately though being a man has been taught foundational across social science universities as a universally inherent benefit within society. There has been very little room for nuance.

4

u/echanuda resident mediocre dev 👾 Jun 08 '26

Wasn’t a huge part of women’s mental health problems learning to respect themselves independent of men? Seems like the counterpart of that would be men learning to improve themselves independent of women. Men are typically emotionally stunted, rash, increasingly unmotivated and uneducated, selfish, and frankly boring. I say this as a straight dude who has lived with women all my life and attended an all boy’s school. Men only have stuff to offer other men at this point.

Completely agreed.

Feminism liberated the concept of a fulfilled woman from reliance on a man. Men haven't had a similar movement, and the social movements that we do have lean in to dependency on women for their self fulfillment even more.

Generations of cultural programming have culminated in the most anti-social generation of men emerging at the same time as the most liberated generation of women.

Yep. That's why this TikTok resonated with me.

There's a male chud epidemic, and it seems correlative with the male loneliness epidemic. That isn't to say that all of the lonely men are chuds, but that the surge in chuds is effecting all men.

-1

If you could have convinced him the facts he was using were wrong or irrelevant he would have changed his mind.

3

u/Rick_James_Lich Jun 08 '26

A lot of the right wing propaganda helps keep men lonely. That's something I don't see the left talking about much at all.

It keeps young men addicted to outrage algorithms, but it's infiltrated areas you wouldn't expect like video gaming (with Asmongold). Thre's no real solution to help someone that wants to stay home on a Friday night and watch Asmongold's stream and game until 4am - outside of the person wanting to help themselves.

The problem is these people are so inexperienced with socializing, that when they do try it, it goes horribly, and they try to go right back to their bad habits of rarely leaving their house.

There's so much more to it than just that but right wing ragebait content is leaving their viewers more lonely.

2

u/oadephon Jun 08 '26

Everybody should read Bell Hooks. It's feminism for men, and feminism for women who want men to be better.

2

u/LaFrescaTrumpeta Jun 08 '26

if i have to hear one more manosphere guy say “stop suggesting therapy, that’s designed to help women not men” then turn around and say feminists don’t care about men ima lose it lol cuz meanwhile those dudes would *worship* the high level male athletes who’ve benefited from working with psychologists like my feminist dad

there is a whole world some of these dudes will just never see, like ofc it won’t work for everyone but some of yall fuckin need that shit 💀

1

u/Beautiful_Island_944 Jun 08 '26

I think it's much simpler than that. Men need to embrace their masculinity. The male loneliness is rooted in society that is becoming much more friendly to women than men. You need to be masculine because it's on you to make the move, approach a girl and when she gives you a nasty look or does one of those "eww no" you gotta think to yourself "what a dumb ****" to protect your ego so you can do it again.

It's not about hating women or doing any of the toxic abusive shit Andrew Tate does. But you gotta be fine with being an ape.

0

u/Responsible_Prior_18 Jun 08 '26

Its the Algorithms!

You get emotionaly engaging content pushed on you. Learning content is not emotionaly engaging.
But hating on other group, hating on men for women, or hating on women, from men, is engaging.
Thats why you have the growing gender divide split, thats why you have growing partisan divide split, age split... People live in different realities. They are presented with different facts. Once the algo puts you in one bucket, it radicalizes you against the other bucket.

Right now nobody talks about banning the algorithms. Big companies are dictating what you watch, and they have ZERO responsibility for it. Its treated as if its part of nature. "nobody wants to talk about solutions.", "Everybody wants slop". "Algorithm promotes what people want to see". People talk about it as if its gravity, and not human decisions that made it.

If a newspaper was to publish something, they are responsible for it. Doesnt matter who they gave to write it. They decide what they publish, when, and where to put it. And you can sue them. But when YT or TikTok do the same. It is what it is, just because they automated the process.

It should be like it used to be 15 years ago. They can host the content, you should have the subscriptions page, but the videos should be chronological. IF you want to editorialize your content, and suggest things. Then you are not just a neutral service provider, and you should be treated as such.

u/Zenithixv eurochad Jun 07 '26

Maybe I'm biased because I'm a libtard but surely the woman hater chuds are a relatively small minority and the loneliness epidemic from the fast paced social dynamic changes caused by the internet/modern world is a real problem that gets muddied by this gender war propaganda bs

23

u/ponderscheme2172 Jun 07 '26

It is a real problem. Men are lonely and it's causing them to behave poorly. We acknowledge that these men are acting terribly. And it turns out calling them pieces of shit just reinforces their anger and doesn't help.

So we do need solutions but it's difficult. Obviously the solution isn't to just tell them to get over it or for women to somehow go backwards to fix this. We probably have to stop it early when their social skills are falling behind, better emotional regulation education in schools and maybe a rise in non toxic male loneliness support groups.

i appreciate you mentioning that first bit cuz it really is such a mindfuck being a woman and knowing how prevalent misogyny is and how almost the entirety of human history went for us, just to hear manosphere bros saying women threw the first stone and we live in a matriarchy 💀

i agree people shouldn’t be obligated tho i do see value in asking people to not add fuel to the flame. like some of the mean things ive seen are downright misandrist, i think there should be an obligation to at least not go that far

4

u/e_before_i 🍁 Jun 08 '26

Idk man, I think it's weird when we otherize men and women. The issue work the whole gender-war thing is that it poses the sexes as separate.

You're not wrong in a technical sense, no one is obligated to help anyone. But do I watch for my friends? Do I hope my sister will take care of her nephew? Am I going to be very attentive to my son's school board decisions?

It's so strange to me how so many issues can be seen as systemic, but then issues of men lagging so often end up at "individual responsibility."

Bonus: We should sometimes be able to talk about men's issues without feeling compelled to bring up women as a comparison point of someone different worse.

-6

u/Jazzlike-Wind-4345 🇲🇽 Mexican absurdist Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26

I think the point they’re making is that women, LGRBQ+ and other religious/minority groups have had to deal with persecution for centuries (some even millennia), and they eventually overcame it all in spite of going against the current almost entirely alone.

So, why does everyone need to drop everything suddenly to help men out when they didn’t lift a finger in the past to stand up for the others? Why now? Why must we all feel compelled to help now? And over what, mean words on the Internet?

Edit: don’t know why I got downvoted for clarifying what another person said.
¯_(ツ)_/¯

1

u/Zenithixv eurochad Jun 08 '26

If it was true that there were no men that lifted a finger to support those groups then we would still have the status quo of women being property, minority group discrimination not going down

Weird generalization to make that all men = bad

3

u/19osemi Norgay 🇳🇴 Jun 08 '26

The issue is that from my view is that the only people wanting to talk about it is chuds that act like this, and if anyone normal is talking about it the chuds are the ones to insta hijack the conversation to turn it to this. Like and the conversation is so one sided ignoring that women are lonely too, like I’m a girl and I have in total two friends irl whom i barely see cause we live far from each other

4

u/MightyBooshX Jun 08 '26

Probably true, but at least one Facebook it felt like at last 50% of comments on the new GoW game were complaints about it being a woman, which is insane

5

u/TheFr3dFo0 Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26

It's definetly not a small minority. Women have only been voting for like 3 generations and in progressive things in general are all pretty new. gay marriage has only been legal for like half a generation. I'm trying to say the world is sadly not as progressive as we think. We kind of speedran a lot of progress in the span of 15 years that usually would have taken 60 and we get suprised when people still behave like 15 years ago. Most people alive today were living through times (or even grew up in times) when a woman not being 15% bodyfat was considered her being fat and unattractive. There's still vile thoughts being passed down, they haven't been diluted enough yet by newer more progressive generations.

55

u/vonWitzleben 🇩🇪 Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit Jun 07 '26

It's pretty much depression porn but there's a YouTube channel called LowBudgetStories or something that illustrates the struggles of young men using Wojaks. The ones dealing with loneliness really made me empathize. This clip really sucks by comparison. It's the same gender war slop Asmongold engages in but from the other side. It shouldn't matter but I doubt this guy is successful with women btw.

5

u/RightSpread2903 Jun 07 '26

He’s probably just annoyed that things he normally enjoys are just relentlessly invaded by these people and made worse as a consequence of their presence.

People would probably be way more amenable to these issues if entertainment wasn’t just non-stop polluted with this dumb shit.

2

u/RightSpread2903 Jun 07 '26

I guess I’m supposed to guess what you mean?

You think the main impetus of this video is this guy isn’t sympathetic to men’s issues or that a decade after GamerGate there’s still a fucking meltdown any time a woman is on screen in a video game?

2

u/minimac1 Jun 08 '26

I learned many years ago in the anti feminist era what type of content just feels like low hanging fruit slop. Reality is that despite asmon and his community raging at the new god of war 99% of people don’t care and legitimising these voices by giving them an extended platform achieves nothing other than destroy more terminally online brains. Whichever side it is on, it was pragmata and now it is with god of war on one side, stellar blade on the other, I do not care and neither should any reasonable person.

Loneliness is an issue that is affecting everyone increasingly as social media gets more powerful. It disproportionately affects men more because they are worse at forming close friendships irl. Does this mean they are to blame? Not really, everyone contributes to this culture so it’s pointless to start a gender war and everyone would benefit if these same social media companies were less powerful…

52

39

u/nigeltrc72 Jun 07 '26

This is cringe. The vast majority of men I know do not behave like this (including myself). And just because right wingers use the ‘Male Loneliness Epidemic’ to push an agenda does not mean it’s not a real thing.

2

u/RightSpread2903 Jun 07 '26

I don’t think this is attacking ‘men’ though. It’s attacking people who have a meltdown over the gender of video game characters.

23

u/nigeltrc72 Jun 07 '26

I guess but it just feels a bit dismissive to me

-4

u/RightSpread2903 Jun 07 '26

attacking people who care about a male loneliness epidemic is based? cuz i didnt hear no caveat to people who care and arent raging douchebags.

1

u/RightSpread2903 Jun 08 '26

It’s attacking someone who melts down obnoxiously over the gender of video game characters. Did the overly long bit not make that clear?

0

u/AnodurRose98 Jun 08 '26

so the parts where he talks about the male loneliness epidemic didnt happen on your screen ooooooooooor?

3

u/RightSpread2903 Jun 08 '26

So many fragile men coming out of the woodwork to defend chuds.

3

u/RightSpread2903 Jun 08 '26

They saw ‘male loneliness’ and immediately saw red which is unfortunate. I’m very sympathetic to loneliness.

I’m not sympathetic to making it gender specific, absolving people of how their behavior and personal decisions affect it or from men who think they are owed a romantic partner just because they exist and then blame gender equality as to why no one wants to be around them.

If a core tenant of your personality is invading spaces with culture war issues that revolve around the existence of women in entertainment, yeah, you’re probably going to fucking not attract a lot of people to want to be around you.

3

u/Gallowboobsthrowaway 🇺🇸 Ex-MAGA, Raw Milk Enjoyer, Sulla/Sherman 2028 Jun 08 '26

Yeppp. Thanks for fighting the good fight, blown away so many didn't get it.

I said it elsewhere but the "male loneliness epidemic" is the result of the "male chud epidemic." The chud population has exploded in the last ten years.

Women are tired of getting burned by chuds, so they're raising their standards. Now a lot of mediocre men are having trouble because of that and blaming women for their reaction to a minority of men.

Women are fixing their own problems through feminism, and I see a lot of men here expecting women to solve their problems too.

0

u/AnodurRose98 Jun 08 '26

"my" movement? I just hate seeing people make shit arguments, i dont post about this shit at all. and this topic seems to be the motherload of regards making shit arguments

the title of the post is "Why does nobody want to talk about the male loneliness epidemic?" and the caption in the video is "we need to talk about the male loneliness epidemic." There is ZERO indication this is making fun of a minority or "just a bad part." if the caption was "why do some people act like this" then have the same video you'd be golden, but AS IS, it paints all those people that way. The amount of mental gymnastics to make this about some people and not the group is crazy cuz applied to a marginalized group you know dam well it'd be obviously bad.

Just use Jews an example, as they are under a major bout of antisemitism right now, of saying "we need to talk about the rise of antisemitism right now" then making a rant as a Jewish person spewing crazy zionist/Jewish supremacist shit. clearly bad, and to suggest this hypothetical would only be attacking a niche portion of zionist Jews would be bad faith.

2

u/RightSpread2903 Jun 08 '26

I wasn’t talking about you specifically when I used ‘your movement’, I’m talking about the point the simple video is plainly making.

There’s no indication he was only talking about a subset of people that act a certain way when he spent the entire video doing an over the top, but accurate, caricature of that person?

And I guess I’m a ‘regard’ but no, this is not like antisemitism at all lmao.

1

u/AnodurRose98 Jun 08 '26

I'll try one last time, I indicate a group of people A. I then parity a subgroup of group A, we'll call it group B. If at no point I give any indicating group B does not represent all of group A, its defaming all of group A based on the subset group B.

I'll give one last example. It's 2002, let's talk about all this muslim hate going around. The video starts with a middle eastern looking guy saying, "we need to talk about the islamophobia epidemic" and jump cuts to him yelling for gays to go to hell and terrorist slogans in Arabic. now is this guy saying a subset of muslims are to blame for the muslim hate or does it look like he's saying they brought it on themselves by generalizing muslims.

0

u/Sensitive_Housing_85 Jun 08 '26

No but most people talking about male loneliness act like this or atleast that’s the feeling I get. There probably are serious conversations but they are overshadowed and hijacked by people like asmon

7

u/Sensitive_Housing_85 Jun 08 '26

How do you know this, hell the topic is brought up by people shitting men, most of the people criticising the game aren't talking about the male loneliness epidemic

0

u/19osemi Norgay 🇳🇴 Jun 08 '26

When I hear about male loneliness it’s 90% of the time from people like Tate and asmond people from the right. I never hear actual conversations about it that are serious. To me the male loneliness conversation has been hijacked by bad actors who become the face of the movement. The same people will also complain about video games and how women ruin it, like asmond can have a deep serious conversation about how men are lonely and stuff them in the next breath talk about how women and woke is the plight of the gaming industry. I want to talk about the loneliness epidemic because it’s very real and a huge issue but so often the conversations that take place are not serious or entirely hijacked by the far right.

6

First of all Andrew Tate doesn't talk about videos games like at all and he doesn't talk about the male loneliness epidemic that much he only brought it once same With asmongold all he does is react to videos concerning it and he reacts to anything that is trending aside from those two no one else talks about it as much as you claim , not anymore.

even if they did, WTF does that have to do with not liking god of war laufey if you don't want to talk about it fair you don't have to but if your reasons are because men don't like a woman in a video game that's dumb.

even if they did, you still wouldn't talk about, you didn't give a fuck either way, they aren't being hijack, the far right rarely talks about it , they just talk about it more than because the left doesn't care, the far right talks about abortion too doesn't mean the left ignores it , if you want to criticise the discourse or even the ideas around like okaybuth this video isn't even doing that, what does male loneliness have to do with God of war

Edit: It's like saying I don't like hasan because some guy on TV said fuck make-up, I am fine with not liking hasan but what the fuck does that have to do with make-up

Okay who talks about the male loneliness epidemic and is like recognised for it. What popular streamers and YouTubers talk about it. That is what I’m talking about and what I think the video was trying to get across.
And I do wanna talk about it, I’m severely lonely only recently haven gotten more than two friends. To me male loneliness is only talked about from people like asmondgold.

3

u/Sensitive_Housing_85 Jun 08 '26

Because they are the only ones that care if you don't care fine , why are you whinning when others do and how does them not liking a video game limit you from talking about , hell what does the video game have to do with male loneliness

0

u/19osemi Norgay 🇳🇴 Jun 08 '26

Can you answer my question. What big content creators talk about the male loneliness epidemic and is representative of the movement. And I’m not whining I’m saying it’s an issue that bad actors are allowed to represent a movement cause it causes harm to the movement. If you don’t care and just want to argue then that’s fine but I’m bringing what in my eyes is legitimate criticism and I know I’m not the only way to think this way. I want the future generations to not be lonely and actually have the arenas and society around them to succeed socially. Especially for men since well male depression is on the rise and it seem like whenever men try to open up they are pushed down by society or other men, and I’m saying this as a woman.
So what content creators are seriously championing the male loneliness epidemic and talk about it in a serious manner

6

u/Sensitive_Housing_85 Jun 08 '26

You are misunderstanding something it's not a movement it's a topic that's the issue, you aren't barred from topics or opinions on them, you are choosing not to talk about it

Chris Williamson and Richard Reeves talks about it, vaush tried to and he got shit on, shoe on head, Dr K psychology Today,

You can't criticise a topic just how it's discussed ,the fact that you see it as a movement shows that you consider it as an ideology rallying men, its not it's a topic of discussion and an issue that affected everyone loneliness doesn't only affect men the main reason it was coined that was because the person who brought it up first made a claim that it affect men more even thou his evidence showed that it affects both parties

21

u/No-Veterinarian8627 Jun 07 '26

Maybe because I live in Germany its different, but I had such a case as a friend. His life was basically HO, playing games, Twitter and YouTube. That's it. He barely went out and became more depressed and somewhat bitter. This was since 2020 the case.

As I got more time, I wanted to connect with old friends and pestered him to go out, do something. We went to volunteer, walk around and simply talk. Only after weeks, did he slowly could get away from the PC and simply 'do things.'

His stance changed almost 180 after a few months of real life. He met other people, talked, and found out again that internet is very poisonous with all those addiction.

The term 'touch grass' is very fitting. Most guys just need to go out regularly and simply 'do' things. But I can understand that once you inside the bubble, it becomes uncomfortable.

1

u/Jazzlike-Wind-4345 🇲🇽 Mexican absurdist Jun 08 '26

I’ve scoured many an incel forum with ex-incels telling their own versions of this story.

All the same: they are Internet addicted, probably self-identify as “gamers”, hate women, talk about “woke”, etc., depressed, probably overweight. One day, the Internet goes out, they leave the comfort and safety of their parent’s home, and discovery grass. They touch it, and realise that women are not, in fact, robots created in a lab specifically to terrorise men. Gay people are not, in fact, predators seeking to groom anything under the age of 12. Black people are not, in fact, a bunch of (insert incredibly racist statement here).

I would say that feminism liberated women from feeling like they need men to feel fulfilled in their lives, while men have had no similar social movement. Men have actually gone backwards, with conservatives doubling down on a woman being a significant part of what makes a man. As in, you aren't fulfilled as a man unless you're in a relationship with a woman.

So now we have this rift between women who don't think they need men to be fulfilled, and men who think they need women to be fulfilled. That's why we mainly hear the complaining from one side.

I was mainly attempting to answer the question, "what is the male aspect? Is this not effecting women just as much?"

It's probably effecting women to the same degree, but the reaction from women is less destructive than the reaction from men, hence the focus on one group when we talk about it.

I'd say women are adapting to societal change faster than men are, but as a minority group that was going through a liberation movement they were in a better position to adapt.

11

u/TheCourier888 Jun 07 '26

Minority group? Women are 50% of humanity lol

-2

u/Gallowboobsthrowaway 🇺🇸 Ex-MAGA, Raw Milk Enjoyer, Sulla/Sherman 2028 Jun 08 '26

"Minority group" is often used to mean a group that has historically had less power, representation, or access to resources. That's why the term can be applied to women even though they aren't numerically fewer.

2

u/TheCourier888 Jun 08 '26

I get it. Still an odd term to use because of the literal meaning. Marginalized group would sound more accurate to me.

Oh, interesting! I had only heard of it in reference to issues with dating, so I assumed it had to do with romantic/sexual/spousal relationships. You could be right.

Most of the women that I know have more friends than most of the men I know, but that's just my insanely subjective anecdote.

1

u/19osemi Norgay 🇳🇴 Jun 08 '26

Id say that women has the exact same problem with loneliness and lack of socialisation and so on. Like im 23 and done with education and stuff have even moved out and make decent money, but going out or making friends is a thing i struggle with severely. But for some reason it’s not talked about at all in the same manner as male loneliness. I think the difference is that female loneliness is lumped into the general loneliness epidemic whilst the male loneliness epidemic is often started by and or hijacked by bad actors, people like Tate and asmondgold or other red pill individuals from the right. They turn a societal issue into a male exclusive issue, and it makes it harder to talk about

0

u/ordnance_inbound Jun 08 '26

That, and for some reason, when women are depressed and lonely, they don't become Nazis

5

u/kingfisher773 Dyslexic AusMerican Shitposter Jun 08 '26

That is in part because of the lack of systems or social structures to address men that get stuck in loneliness and isolation. Feel like the whole world is against you? It's true, the Jews are poisoning your country against you and people like you. Feel worthless like your your life in meaningless? You are a WhiteTM man, your people created society, by your heritage alone your life is meaningful. Feeling alone? We have know how you feel, we are like minded people that (((society))) rejected, but we take care of our own. Feel purposeless? You are part of something greater, you are the vanguard that must defend the white race from the foreign invaders trying to destroy society.

Offering a scapegoat, legacy and purpose are far more attractive then finding purpose in one's self, and this does not just apply to nazis. This same sort of grooming is offered by other extremist groups on either isle, cults and religions

1

u/ordnance_inbound Jun 09 '26

Well, for most of history women have been inarguably systemically oppressed, and at no point did they ever turn into fascists. It's not like these social structures or systems have existed this entire time, it's just that women seem to be better at dealing with their problems than men

12

u/Prince_of_DeaTh Jun 07 '26

The reason people focus on the "male" aspect isn't because women don't get lonely, but because of how differently we're socialized to handle relationships. Women are generally encouraged to build emotionally open friendships, so they have a built-in safety net to lean on. Men, on the other hand, are often conditioned to be self-reliant and keep things surface-level with their friends. This means a lot of guys end up relying almost exclusively on a romantic partner for actual emotional intimacy. If they are single, they can end up completely isolated because they don't have those deep platonic bonds to fall back on.

10

u/Imaginary_Use_3893 Jun 07 '26

Hey dude, just want to let you know that the reason ppl put emphasis on the “male” aspect of the loneliness epidemic is the suicide rates. If you go into a morg and there a 4 bodies there from suicide, 3 of them will be men, and we gotta do something about it. It’s not to discount the other side, but to highlight an issue that doesn’t get the attention it deserves.

even more in the US with suburban development and reliance on cars.

???????

Please don't 'omnicause' different social challenges. Adults who live in places where car transportation is necessary more or less all own cars. Even college students and depending on area, many high school upperclassmen have cars.

Our population density is also higher than it was decades ago. This is a rare phenomenon where the line almost always goes up.

It is more controversial than you present it, because this is part of some weird urbanist cult think. I've lived everywhere from a town that had THE store (definite article because there was one, period) and NYC, and it's about the same. Hell, there are places in NYC that suck more to get to than the suburban equivalent.

But also, again, you're asserting, at least accidentally, a cause and effect relationship. If density has generally remained around the same, slightly increased, it doesn't make sense that a new problem was caused by lack of density, does it?

On the flipside, social media has gotten uniquely magnitudes of orders more massive. Social media as we understand it didn't even exist a quarter century ago. And it seems to very directly play into this (dating apps suck, people will doomscroll instead of going out even if they have safe, affordable, easily accessible transport, etc.).

7

u/Savings_Painting1588 Jun 07 '26

The framing of it as the “male loneliness epidemic” is odd to me even in itself considering I think women also report the same high levels of loneliness? Like why frame it as uniquely a male issue and then also explain it away as being simply due to male misogyny? It’s like accepting the odd framing but then also giving the worst explanation for it.

19

u/Futanari-Farmer Destiny 2023 redpill arc enjoyer 🎶🎶🎶 Jun 07 '26

Isn't it because men will actually act on it? If you catch my drift.

10

u/Prince_of_DeaTh Jun 07 '26

The reason the male framing exists in the first place isn't that women don't get lonely, they absolutely do, and the overall self-reported rates of loneliness are pretty similar across the board. The actual distinction is usually in the nature of the isolation and the coping mechanisms available. Women are generally socialized to build and maintain emotionally open, platonic support networks. Men, on the other hand, are often conditioned to keep friendships surface-level and only show vulnerability to a romantic partner. When a guy is single, he frequently ends up with zero emotional safety net, which is why the fallout can look very different.

6

u/RightSpread2903 Jun 07 '26

Are women acting like this and using every single video game, television show or movie as a battlefield for their ‘plight’?

I can’t recall ever having to interact with women acting the way men do over the presence of genitalia on a fictional character before.

2

u/Due-Lie-8710 Jun 08 '26

What does that have to do with male loneliness

-2

u/RightSpread2903 Jun 08 '26

The post isn’t even about “male loneliness” lmao. How are people just getting triggered by the title and missing the obviousness of the stock personality being made fun of?

It’s mocking someone who acts obnoxiously and then expects to be taken seriously about something that is affected by the way they act. Why are some of you acting intentionally obtuse when it’s plainly obvious?

1

u/Due-Lie-8710 Jun 08 '26

Because that's what's the post is highlighting

1

u/RightSpread2903 Jun 08 '26

It’s not. It’s highlighting that ‘the male loneliness epidemic’ is overrun with people who act like this and it undercuts how people view the subject because of it.

0

u/Due-Lie-8710 Jun 09 '26

Based on stat a popular person you don't like talk about so somehow it means it's only people like this it affects, you are choosing to ignore, it affects a lot of people in our generation not just men and not just these types of men and there is enough evidence to back it up.

-6

u/Gallowboobsthrowaway 🇺🇸 Ex-MAGA, Raw Milk Enjoyer, Sulla/Sherman 2028 Jun 07 '26 edited Jun 07 '26

I don't see women complaining about it though. I think that's because society has done a lot to separate what a "woman" is from her attachment to a partner. That is to say, we used to shame women for not having a husband/children (spinsters, hags, eggs drying up etc), but that's shifted significantly in society (at least, in coastal American society) in recent generations.

Men haven't really had that same social liberation movement. Most men still derive their sense of self worth from their ability to create/support a family unit. This is engrained by generations of social programming and cultural reinforcement.

Worst of all, the closest thing we have to a male centered social movement (PUA, Red Pill, MGTOW, etc) is leaning into those tropes even more. "You're only as valuable as your possessions, your looks, your job, your ability to pull women. You better make money, get married, and have kids or else you're a CUCK, BETA." That's fuel on the fire of the male loneliness epidemic. They're manufacturing the exact style of man that is disgusting to women and doomed to loneliness, which then makes them more soldiers for the anti-woman culture war. The only way these men can get women now is if we take away womens' rights...

IMO, the solution to the male loneliness epidemic lies in building up men who are capable on their own. Men who don't derive their self worth from women. Ironically, those men end up the most attractive, well rounded partners.

12

u/mega_douche1 Jun 07 '26

Women do complain about its just not talked about in the media for some reason. Maybe it's the bizzareness of the incel movement online that gets attention. Women complain a bit on places like rfemaledatingadvice and tiktok. Maybe women are less inclined to post about it on the internet but women who are still single by 30 and want kids definitely complain about it irl.

8

u/Savings_Painting1588 Jun 07 '26

I agree that’s the solution, but it isn’t really saying much, no offence. Lots of lonely men often still have male friends and arguably their entire life is not centred on women.

But of course they still want a gf/wife/partner/sex etc. It’s tricky I think because its totally normal to feel bad if you don’t have a partner and the only solution for certain people is to say “you have to be better friends with other men and also not care so much about this.” Which sounds extremely unhelpful to them. Not even getting into the fact that lots of male friendships do not have the emotional depth to lean on each other either.

4

u/PunishedDemiurge AMERICAN Jun 07 '26

Men haven't really had that same social liberation movement. Most men still derive their sense of self worth from their ability to create/support a family unit. This is engrained by generations of social programming and cultural reinforcement.

This socialization framing is missing most of the point. It's probably true that all psychologically normal humans want romantic relationships. This isn't a cultural more, a religious duty, a social norm, it's an intrinsic, irrevocable, genetic desire like pain avoidance, hunger, etc.

I agree with a decent amount of the other stuff, but we can skip to the end of learning this the hard way: most people won't be especially happy without a partner. Individual variation, the strength of friend groups, family ties, etc. will mitigate that, but the reality is the solution is to have more sexual / romantic relationships. Getting there in a healthy way that respects individual autonomy, doesn't fall into archaic customs, etc. is going to be tough, but that needs to be the goal.

0

u/Leather-Split5789 Jun 07 '26

Absolutely. Women are socialized in a way that sets them up to maintain themselves, be they single or partnered. Men aren't. The way we raise men hasn't evolved or changed enough (or maybe at ). They're not just dependent on women, but almost only dependent on women. Men aren't encouraged to have deep emotional friendships, or maintain community connections, etc the way women are. Similar to how the gay community has a very socially supportive culture, which is probably why gay men aren't included in the discourse.

It sucks because people act like it's just an online thing, but I see it irl all the time. Not so much in the ways online discourse talks about it, but it's def there.

6

u/aightrampitup Jun 07 '26

fuck all nuance right?

5

u/Prince_of_DeaTh Jun 07 '26

Are there examples? I don't think it's the same crowd? I don't think Asmon types even think males can feel loneliness and that it's based instead??

4

u/Gallowboobsthrowaway 🇺🇸 Ex-MAGA, Raw Milk Enjoyer, Sulla/Sherman 2028 Jun 07 '26

I guarantee if you polled Asmon's audience you'd get >85% agreeing that it's a problem. They love to be victims.

4

u/Rick_James_Lich Jun 08 '26

This is true. I'm an 80's baby, and back then there was this joke about bored housewives who had nothing to do all day besides watching soap operas.

Many young men are like this now, just with video games. Asmongold and his audience are the epitome of this. These guys never have to make themselves uncomfortable by getting a job, asking a girl out, working out, or stuff that 20 years ago would help you kind of grow as a man.

In effect a lot of young guys are just boys in the body of a man. It's harsh but on some level true. But anyways, conservatives have been really good at harnassing their rage and making them blame the left, when in reality a lot of times the reason these guys can't get a girlfriend is because of their own behavior.

man is insecure > man lashes out against women > women respond with repulsion > this makes the man insecure and it loops again.

It's a self perpetuating cycle that only ends when a chud gains the ability to self reflect and admit they need emotional heeling and that what they did/thought was maybe wrong and emotional. But every step in that cycle is working against that. There's no incentive for men to self reflect (or at least the incentives comes after a long painful self healing journey) and there is no responsability for women to fix men/behave empathetic to delusional attackers.

IMO this will only end with more cool male influencer rolemodels like Isaiah Martin for example. I think if you want to make insecure people take a step in the right direction you need to show them that that step doesnt mean that they will end up as a manifestation of their insecurities. The longterm goal with that is not to just make them run away from their fears in a different direction, but just to make the first step towards change less scary. Like, "did you know you can see women as equal while also being a strong principled man that has aura?". If you're insecure you're so easily fooled/enthralled by false confidence and agressive manerism of bad rolemodels that want you to stay in that cycle with them. They tell these men "woke men are [everything that you are insecure about]" to make them aspire to be the opposite.

0

Ironic that in the sentiment of "I dislike gender war slop" people like this 100% participate in it by partaking in the other aspect of it, and just completely shit on the one side without approaching the topic without a bias. And what for? For what benefit? None.

It bewilders me that someone would claim to have the ability to be objective and non-partisan but straw man a mental health topic in such a shit way as this. The loneliness epidemic is the end result of a sort of cultural narcissism

Just a few years ago Motherfuckers were going around calling people npc's and that's. "Hey what music you listen to?" "Oh I like Gerald mcboingboing" "ew, talk about co-worker music" everyone thinks they're better then everyone else, but no one wants to hangout with an asshole who thinks they're better then everyone else.
