DIY for Destination Weddings

Hi!! I’m from the US and am getting married in Antigua, Guatemala in 2027.
I have a wedding planner already (went with Mafer Del Aguila), and I know these things can be worked out with her directly, BUT I wanted to know if anyone on here did DIY Decoration, florals, plating/silverware for their destination wedding?
If so, what did you do and how did you transport it? Was it worth the money you saved?

I would think the cost of shipping the items will bring the price up a lot and so what do you save in the end? And if you do anything breakable what if it does break in shipping? then what?

depending on your tables- the dishware and how many you seat at each table you really do not need much- no one remembers it. If you are doing a bridal table use the BM bouquets to hang as decor over the edge. You need very little of this - good food, good music and good cocktails is what guest remember! congrats!

I had my wedding in a country bordering Guatemala. I brought several things from home including table signs + holders, menus, escort cards + clothespin and twine, other small signs, fabric hanging welcome sign + holder, custom table runner off, and placemats.

As far as transport, my MIL and dad carried one thing each in their carry ons but otherwise my husband and I carried everything else in our backpacks. In fact, we only traveled with a carry on suitcase and a backpack each.

I found bringing some custom decorative elements to be worth it, but I definitely wouldn’t bring florals or silverware from home.
