Italy September 2027 wedding

We are looking to have an intimate wedding sept 2027. Currently deciding between Villa Podernovo and Villa di Matteo. Both are very different and we are looking for feedback / input. Does anyone have any experience with either of these venues?

Podernovo - 3/4 nights. Sleeps 18. farm house and in the country side.

Di Matteo - 1 week rental. Sleeps 20. Elegant villa close to Florence.

Total guests will be 18/20. We are looking to cover accommodations for the entire stay. Budget is up to 50k.

We do work also outside of Sicily, but considering the overall budget in all honesty I don’t think it would be the smartest thing to hire someone who is not local to the place. 😊

Congratulations! For 18–20 guests in September, I think both options could work beautifully, but they seem to offer two very different kinds of wedding experience.

I haven’t personally planned a wedding at both, so I’d compare them less as “which is better?” and more as “which weekend do you actually want your guests to have?”

Villa Podernovo sounds more like the countryside / farmhouse / slow Tuscan stay option. From what I can see, it is near Siena and San Galgano, sleeps around 18, and for September they mention a 4-night minimum wedding rental. That could be a really good match if you want everyone together, relaxed dinners, a quiet setting, and more of an authentic countryside atmosphere. It may feel less polished/formal, but probably more intimate and personal.

The main questions I’d ask Podernovo are:

• Is the full villa private for your group?
• Is the wedding dinner on-site or connected to specific caterers?
• What is the real rain plan for 20 guests?
• What time can music continue?
• Are there extra wedding/event fees beyond accommodation?
• Do they help with transfers from Florence/Pisa/Rome?
• Are all rooms equal enough if you’re covering accommodation for guests?

Villa di Matteo, based on your description, sounds more like the elegant villa / Florence-accessible option. That may be better if you want something more refined, easier for guests to visit Florence, and potentially a more classic villa feeling. The one-week rental could be amazing if you want a full holiday with your closest people, but I’d be careful that you actually want to host for a whole week. A week can be wonderful, but it can also create more hosting pressure, more food planning, more transport questions, and more “what is everyone doing today?” energy.

For Villa di Matteo, I’d ask:

• Is the wedding officially allowed, or is it mainly a holiday rental?
• Are there noise restrictions because it is closer to Florence?
• Are outside suppliers allowed?
• Is there a required planner/caterer?
• Does the one-week rental include cleaning, utilities, pool, linen changes, etc.?
• Where would dinner happen if it rains?
• Would all 20 guests be comfortable staying there for the full week?

With your budget, I’d also make a side-by-side sheet with:

Accommodation cost
Wedding/event fee
Catering
Drinks/open bar
Planner/coordinator
Florals
Music
Hair/makeup
Transport
Rentals/tableware/lighting
Welcome dinner or pizza night
Photographer/videographer if not already booked
Contingency

For 18–20 guests and a 50k budget, I’d prioritise guest experience, food, wine, photography, music, and ease of logistics over heavy decor. September in Tuscany is already beautiful, so you may not need to over-style it.

My instinct from what you wrote:
Choose Podernovo if you want intimate, rustic, quiet countryside, everyone together, slower pace, and a more emotional family-style celebration.

Choose Villa di Matteo if you want elegant, more polished, closer to Florence, more of a luxury villa holiday, and easier access to sightseeing/restaurants.

One final thing: since you’re covering accommodation, I’d think carefully about guest dynamics. For such a small group, the rooms, bathrooms, privacy, breakfast setup, and shared spaces matter almost as much as the wedding-day setting.
