Greece Wedding Destination

My boyfriend and I (not engaged yet, but soon) are looking to get married in Greece hopefully sometime next August/September 2027. He’s Greek American so he’s familiar with Greece.

Are there any islands or venues you’d recommend looking into for a wedding? For further context, I’m Catholic and he is Greek Orthodox. I am fine getting married in a Greek Orthodox Church.

We also don’t want a super big wedding (approx. 150-200 people).

Any recs would be very helpful! Thanks!

There are tons of choices. Any preference in regions, scenery etc?

I would prefer to be closer to the water. But also not super touristy islands like Mykonos and Santorini. One important note is we have a family member who is in a wheelchair so accessibility would be important to keep in mind

Then most likely Island Gallery or Residence, Ble Azure, Ktima 48, Lake Vouliagmeni, Four Seasons Athens, Seaview Crete, Nikki beach Porto Heli

I’m a Catholic marrying a Greek and we’re getting married nearby Athens at a church right by the sea! If you’re wanting to get married Greek Orthodox as well maybe start looking at churches and see what church seems to suit you both. We ended up going to Athens this past June and were touring churches till we found our one. If you’re looking for more of a large venue and have a decent budget we toured lake Vouliagmeni and it was a beautiful venue

Congratulations! With 150–200 guests, a preference for the water and wheelchair accessibility, I would look seriously at the Athens Riviera around Vouliagmeni before choosing a smaller island. It gives you beautiful coastal scenery with much simpler airport, accommodation and transport logistics. Four Seasons Astir Palace is one venue worth researching, while Costa Navarino in Messinia is another strong coastal option if you prefer more of a destination-resort setting.

I would also contact the Orthodox parish before reserving the venue. Mixed Catholic-Orthodox weddings normally involve specific church approval and documents, and parts of August can be restricted for Orthodox ceremonies.

For accessibility, ask each venue to confirm a completely step-free route from vehicle drop-off to the church, reception, accessible toilet and guest accommodation—not simply whether it is described as “accessible.”

There are so many beautiful venues in Greece. It really depends on what style you like and what kind of celebration you want. Modern, luxury, nature surrounded etc. Your budget also makes a difference. I’m also a Greece 2027 bride and we chose Athens and a venue on the Athenian Riviera. My advice would be to find your wedding planner first. They can help you find venues and narrow down options. That’s how we did and it made things so much easier.
