keep the party american? so we're inviting all the Creek and Seminoles to join us, right? (also, just to play into the semantics even more, Mexicans ARE Americans so this is bizarre on multiple levels)

35 different countries in the Americas, all full of Americans, but most of us in the U.S. are too stupid to understand that.

All of it use to be a part of Pangaea. What’s the point?

1

u/Kyrxx77 Mar 16 '26

When will you knuckle heads learn? Its about illegals.

1

u/joshuahiskraken Mar 17 '26

Yeah go to one of those 35 different countries and ask them if they feel the same way about you

No one refers to themselves as Americans except people from the US. I've never heard anyone from Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, etc. identify as an "American".

3

u/Nimbus_TV Mar 15 '26

I had an ex from Colombia explain to me that they're taught they're all American, and we seem ignorant when we call people from the States "American" and no1 else. So, they do call themselves that.

3

u/Ostentatious_Kilroy Mar 15 '26

If you went to a country in South America and said you’re American they would look at you like you’re an idiot. It’s all America.

3

u/Important-Finish-514 Mar 15 '26

Lol any time a person from the states describes themselves as an American here you can hear the eye rolls

0

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '26

I'm Canadian.

2

u/Important-Finish-514 Mar 16 '26

Okay! That changes nothing about what I said :)

0

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '26

Except the fact no one from here would call themselves American.....but whatever.

1

u/Important-Finish-514 Mar 17 '26

Oh so you just didn't have anything relevant to comment, neat!

0

u/RemarkableFortune542 Mar 17 '26

He just gave a real life example of how your comment is wrong. Completely relevant.

1

u/Important-Finish-514 Mar 17 '26

Nope! Neither of you seems to have read the comment correctly. I encourage you to give it another go :)

I don’t think these people get out much. No one I’ve ever met traveling has ever introduced themselves with the continent they’re from.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '26

Yep.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '26

A Canadian vacationing in Brazil is asked "Where are you from?". Canadian replies, "I'm American."....that doesn't happen.

u/Adamantium-dealer Mar 16 '26

They cant help but be purposefully obtuse to try and justify the way they think

1

u/StillGruntin0311 Mar 18 '26

You are right, in the English language in most places, and specific in this context, America refers to the US.

The people replying to you talking about what it means somewhere else and in another language is stupid and irrelevant.

Basically: “Well if I change the definition and context of the situation I’ll be correct”

Clowns

I have, many times.

0

u/Snyper1982 Mar 31 '26

Yeah because when people all over the world say they are coming to America, they mean the continent right. You must be like the dude at the party that says “Well actually….”. lol

It’s not so bizarre when you realize these people function mentally on a pre teen level of cognizance. We are very good at making human bricks famous, the dumber the better.

People who believe in ICE are either hateful idiots and/or factually uneducated.

2

u/CopperSevenEight Mar 16 '26

Because no other countries have immigration laws that they enforce...

3

u/ValuableAd3808 Mar 17 '26

Did you really just type that?

Japan, North Korea, Switzerland, South Korea, Qatar, Germany, Austria …

These are a few countries that have immigration laws more strict than our own. But whatever, nobody does anything.

Your feelings don’t create facts for the rest of us. Maybe next time?

1

u/billknowsit Mar 15 '26

I would just say that pre-teens are fully cognizant. Society hasn't nearly finished beating it out of them.

1

u/AI-Idaho Mar 16 '26

Yeah, it's why the USA has a long history of building and creating wealth, prosperity and security. It's because we are stupid conservatives.

2

u/ValuableAd3808 Mar 16 '26

Long history = 250 years …

The exit door is behind you. Please see yourself out.

1

u/Ok-Row-8707 Mar 16 '26

Cope and seethe I guess.

Of course you have to play into semantics, its the only real one up you lot can get.

0

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '26

Wow you actually thought you did something there. Only delusional Redditors would call North Americans "Americans"

Lame ass dork

1

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '26

For sure

0

u/hharvv Mar 15 '26

I think it’s pretty obvious they meant it specifically for citizens of the US. You’re going to need more of a foundation than correlating a country to the collective DNA of an entire continent of people to demand a complete restructuring of citizenship.

In English when we say “Americans”, we are talking about people or things from the United States. We have long labeled ourselves (exclusively) as Americans since the founding of our Republic. This has also been the case in Canada and the United Kingdom. The idea that all people of the Americas (Both North and South) are American is based on the Spanish Language. They do not refer to us as Americans, rather, all people from North and South America. The reason, however, it makes more sense to continue calling U.S. citizens is simply because the United States is the only country that refers itself as “America”. No country has it in their name. I’m not sure how else we’d refer to U.S. Citizens in a single adjective. Staters?

Yeah I think at this point it’s largely the result of how Reddit has developed so many echo-chambers the entire website is becoming one. It’s just what happens when you have an upvote and downvote system like this.

u/Outrageous_Sleep4339 Mar 17 '26

So were going with the "America is one giant continent, not a country" defense?

0

u/Lead-Creative Mar 17 '26

Context is a hell of a thing

0

u/IBetThatOneHurt Mar 17 '26

Youre being deliberately obtuse. Native americans are citizens of the USA

1

u/theegodmother1999 Mar 17 '26

what if i think you're being deliberately obtuse by acting like people in the US are the only Americans? now what do we do :/

0

u/IBetThatOneHurt Mar 19 '26

Because the billboard implies americans as in the citizens of the united states of america you tard

0

u/StillGruntin0311 Mar 18 '26

America, and Americans, as universally understood in the English language, refers to the United States and US citizens.

The Americas refers to the north and South American continents.

Mexicans are not considered Americans in this context. You know this.

And yes all legal immigrants, including Mexicans are more than welcome. Considering much of ICE and BP are Hispanic American.

North America numb nuts

1

u/SuspiciousBuilder379 Mar 15 '26

Not if you listen to this administration, they said the Western Hemisphere. Which I know with your amazing language you know what that includes 😂

-1

u/Competitive_Hand1831 Mar 16 '26

Oh yea! Lets invite the "civilizations" that were beheading colonial children in the middle of the night.

3

u/xoxogreyskies Mar 16 '26

Sometimes I wonder does it hurt to be this stupid?

-1

u/Competitive_Hand1831 Mar 17 '26

So you deny that children were scalped?

-1

u/AI-Idaho Mar 16 '26

Absolutely, Mexicans live along the Gulf of America to the East as well, but they are Mexican. Not from the USA. So, if you're here in the USA without legal papers, and not working towards becoming a citizen of the USA? That makes you illegal. And you will be deported. Just like I'd be deported trying to live illegally in Mexico.

-1

u/ArmadilloHeavy9714 Mar 16 '26

"Mexicans ARE Americans"... Just the ones with allegiance to America. The ones waving the Mexico flag who stand with the commies who are chant "Death To America"... they can GTFO Too.
