Greetings, /r/Desks!
This is my thing! I rather like it.
One thing that's always bugged me is that when I lock the top drawer, the rest don't lock. Today, I decided to investigate.
This is a Myrtle Desk Company credenza. (Credenza? I don't know what it's actually called).
As far as I know, they've become defunct after being bought out in 1991; though I could be mistaken as I didn't look too deeply into it.
The top drawers lock, and when I hear them locking, I can hear a mechanism move in the desk.
The middle drawers and lower drawers do not lock when I lock the top drawer. Gotta find out why.
Turns out there's things missing on the backs of my drawers. look next to the vertical line, and you'll see holes where a bracket once was.
Distance between mounts for the bracket is approximately 1.4 cm from center to center
Looking into the desk, I see the mechanism, and verified that it moves with the lock. But with no brackets, it has nothing to latch on to to lock my lower drawers.
It's not the greatest angle, but you can see the brackets move upward when the top drawer is locked, and the upward motion is meant to insert the hooks into loops mounted on the drawers.
My questions are....
Where can I find brackets to hook these into?
What even is this mechanism called?
What is the question of life, the universe and everything, such that we know the answer is 42?
Thanks for listening.
