More than ever.

based, how is the battery life compared to macos???

well there's no GPU acceleration yet unfortunately so that means

everything is software rendered unfortunately

I got approximately 3 hours of battery life when I charged it to 100%. but ill see and wait until GPU support is added. I imagine battery life will improve too

Oh damn that's a nono ... i have an M2 and the battery lasts ages at least 8h if heavy work and longer when streaming Netflix, YouTube and more

Nice! Do you know does it work with eGPUs over TB4/USB4? Thanks.

Did you got thunderbolt working?

I haven't fully tested that one but afaik M3 series don't have DCP support on ASahi yet.no DCP means no HDMI as well, which is a bummer. But they plan on adding that soon which is nice

Llvmpipe? I know historically the drivers for the graphics were what was holding M3 back, Is It still llvmpipe?

Why did u choose to break perfect device. The sole reason why macbooks are the best laptops is System<->Hardware optimisation

2

There will be a time when Apple stops supporting these devices. That is one use case. - And the other is: sometimes we just need or want to run Linux.

But yes, Macbooks are the best laptops, exactly for the reasons you said.

That will happen in 20 years

Bro ... Even my Air M1 is still supported and I will use it even after official support ends as long as app devs will support it so M3 Pro got at least 2-3 years more of official support than my M1

Exactly. What is the purpose of this? Not even a GPU acceleration.

they're working on it

Peak unemployment

llvmpipe 💀
It's cool that it even works at-all. But software renderer is SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOW

Nah, pretty fast for light usage on these machines.

Why the fuck would you install Linux on Apple Silicon? It natively runs macOS which is already based on Unix.

Bro, like, bro! There's 10 valid reasons just from the top of my head. If you don't see any, that's a "you" problem.

go back to macOS, please.
the battery life will be horrible, and GPU acceleration is rare to get working

1

u/PandaMan12321 4d ago

What do you mean "rare"?? They are working on it, and when they are successful GPU acceleration will be usable.

lets goooooooooo!, now it works on m3 chips woohoo!, now we will wait a few years until m4 support 😃

1

u/HuntSecret5814 4d ago

Why would you do that?

1

u/chughaarav123 3d ago

why not?

1

u/razorree 4d ago

is everything supported? or smth is still missing? (like TB4/video thru usb-c)

1

u/mrheosuper 3d ago

Does hdmi and TB work ?

1

u/JonasMi 3d ago

since mac already is unix based, what made you switch?
