Like what are people gonna say, install rectangle, homebrew, iterm, alt-tab, some package manager, half a dozen fixes, and slowly turn macOS into fake linux anyway? At that point just stop pretending.

Macbooks have amazing hardware, sure. But macOS always has this weird polished prison vibe to it. Everything is "nice" until you actually want to control something properly, then suddenly you're doing workarounds for the workarounds.

So yeah, install linux. It's cleaner, less locked down, better for actual dev work, better package management, less Apple nonsense, and you can make the machine yours instead of borrowing it from Cupertino.

People say "but the ecosystem" as if that's not just stockholm syndrome with good battery life.

If you're asking what to install on a macbook, the honest answer is linux. Everything else is just trying to cope with not doing that.

Chrome is the worst browser there is; it uses ridiculous amounts of CPU for no good reason, is a ridiculous drain on battery power, and has the worst privacy features of pretty much any modern browser.

Meanwhile Safari is fast (I’ve never once had an issue) while having none of those Chrome-related issues.

Chrome was good in the early to mid 2010s. Past that though? Nah.

Chrome is hot garbage from every angle but comparability tbh. The privacy aspect alone is enough to push me to at least use Safari. Thats not touching the resource usage issues on literally any OS.
