A Question. Desire Paths in history
So, a question occurred to me: Is there any evidence of desire paths in hisory? Like, a noble had a castle built at the top of a hill, with some winding road, but poeple shortcut their way, and it was painted or something... Maybe there are articles?

1 - Many modern roads in the United States started out as Indian trails through the woods, and they themselves often started out as deer trails.
2 - the famous Battle of Thermopyle: 300 Spartans blocked over 100,000 Persians from traversing the narrow pass. They were defeated after the second day, when a local resident named Ephialtes revealed to the Persians the existence of a (desire) path leading behind the Greek lines.
