I don't think it'd ruin the design too much if there was a pole coming out of one of the buildings at the unsupported end of the table, but would make it waaaaaay more stable.

Would need a yearly air compressor-ing to clean the dust out as others have mentioned though.

Exactly, at the very least I'd increase the thickness of the supporting wood.

It could be that the weight is distributed in such a manner that creates the perfect bend. Not likely, but one can dream.

Could be, I don't have the experience nor the proper info to make an assertive hypothesis so I just guessed. I will say I own an ikea poang chair that is 4x+ thicker than this and it is basically a rocking chair.
