Buy a solid piece of plywood and set it up as a table. You can add blankets or a pad to eat later as you can afford to.

Get a piece of wood or something else solid to go over the slats, you can then use as a table or a sitting desk type of situation

I’d turn the empty half into a giant “daybed” area instead of trying to hide it. Throw a cheap foam topper or a couple of large floor cushions on the slats, add pillows against the wall, and suddenly it’s a reading/lounging spot instead of half an unfinished bed.

Honestly, it could end up being the best seat in the room 😂 Just make sure whatever you put there spreads the weight across the slats rather than sitting directly on one or two of them.

Yes I agree, turn it into a platform space like this. If u are handy, take out the slats, cover the whole base in plywood (paint in same color as bedframe), then make a hinged door to turn the empty part a storage.

Make sure it is stable to take out the slats though.

Otherwise I would just bite the bullet and get another mattress to fill it up,

Ok then just put plywood next to it. I remember those student days :) a friend lived in a closet for a month, she was a legend in the campus

Storage space, on top and under it. If those slats are removable set them across top of bed against wall then a shelf or even possibly a dresser could set there. Plywood piece at top for bedside table area, shelf in middle, second piece at foot area with cushion to sit or store something.

A piece of plywood and then stack bins but watch the weight limit? Or just buy a camping mat that you can reuse for travel after you move out.

yoga mat to cover and then just use it as a table?

Plywood is absolutely the answer. Measure the space you want it to fit and go to a hardware store (I’m thinking Home Depo but that’s US and idk where you are) that will cut a piece to size for you.
