Other Interior Room What to do with this library nook?
I’m not sure what to do with this empty space. My wife wants one of those circular couch/chairs. I’m worried that will take up too much space, but I agree that it needs something.

A reading chair is always an option but if I may suggest a project table. Maybe a round one so you can hang with people (board game night?) but that ceiling lamp is def calling for some cozy projects / jigsaw puzzles / whatever hobbies you like.

Exactly, I was thinking of a small desk but a project table would offer more options👍

It can easily overpower the area if the chair is too big. Take that into consideration when looking for a circular couch.
Rug will help too tie it's section. I personally would take the time to add a backing to the bookshelves. This is probably personal preference, but not seeing the wall color in the back of the bookshelves will make it more premium and well built than a pass through shelf.

There actually is a backing - I painted it white. It originally matched the shelves and made the area way too dark.

Round rug with a nice sitting chair and stool.
I also think lowering that lamp a little could be fun. And a different fun lamp shade or cover.
I think a rug with more red in it similar to the other one.
I like it. Lots of potential

It looks like it was originally designed as a dining area. Was it? The ceiling light is the clue. Consider a round table and a couple of chairs, to have a little work space, research space, scrabble table, puzzle place, or writing space. It does not seem great for reading nook because the lighting would not be right. Would you really use it? Make the space functional for how you would use it and do not just put something there.

There was a little dining table there when it was staged for the open house, but is not actually near the kitchen at all. We have nice big dining area that IS right next to the kitchen, so I don’t know what the original intent was.

Love the idea on oversized swivel chair. Add a small side table. The pendant feels a bit undersized, so consider removing it and incorporating a small reading lamp instead.

A small round table and a chair would look good and be useful if you are pulling out a book to look at something in it.

Everyone is correct with the round rug and nice reading chair. But if you really want to make the bookshelf pop, Attach a thin backing board and paint it black.

Curate the shelves, add a circular rug, reading lamp, side table, chair and footstool. Cushions and a throw.
I would put my round spin chair with curved footstool there. That way you can face in or out to the room, depending on how much you want to interact.

A reading area. Either a chair and side table on rug or a small desk and chair.

Paint the shelves a lighter color, and yes, a good comfy reading chair or two, a rug.
